Treating Hernia

Hernia is one of the most dangerous diseases out there. You often don't have enough symptoms to know it before its development. There are many types of Hernia which usually affect men more than women. But then, even though the number is lesser for women, their suffering is far harder, at least in the instances that I have gone through.

Well, awareness does half the battle in many diseases, and Hernia is not an exception. We will explore about Hernia and its treatment here, and it will be of great pleasure to have you folks sharing information that is not found here, for sharing information is the vital element for awareness.

Hernia and its Treatment

Hernia

Human body has so many internal organs. Each has its own functionalities. They are all well packed and arranged to serve their own functionalities and to complete the whole body's cycle of functions. What if an organ comes out of its pack and starts intruding the neighbouring organs? It's called Hernia.

For example, our abdominal wall is a pack that holds a bunch of essential organs. Everyone one of us has potential weakness in the abdominal wall which may develop over years. If it develops enough to break the wall, the organ which was held in that area would be squeezed out. This is one type of Hernia. There are different types of hernia like umbilical hernia, femoral hernia, and inguinal hernia, etc.

In abdominal hernia, the organ that breaches the abdominal wall usually intrudes all the way down to the testicles area and causes swelling, pain, and more.

In the case of abdominal hernia, surgery is needed to cure majority of the cases. Patients will feel pain after surgery which is normal. The pain has to be borne as nothing can be done to change it. The level of pain that each patient feels will be different.

Traditionally, hernia was repaired by stretching the neighbouring tissues and stitching them together. Later, many types of implants are being used (of course, accordingly) one of which is a mesh. The purpose of the mesh is to provide support for the weakened tissue so that it is not over stretched again. The name for this procedure is tension free repairs. It is called so because it eliminates the need to join the tissues by force. This procedure can be further classified into posterior repair and anterior repair. The classification is based on the positioning of the mesh with respect to the weakened tissue. In the case of posterior repair, the mesh is placed below while in the case of anterior repair it is placed above.

There are different types of meshes available for hernia surgery in the market and Surgimesh is one of them. This mesh was developed Aspide Medicals, which begun in the year 1994. In order to design this mesh, Aspide Medicals collaborated with surgeons.

Surgimesh is a non woven next generation microfiber polypropylene mesh. This mesh can be used for different types of hernia surgery. The reasons for this are its maneuverability and its easy handling during the surgery. The size of the mesh is around 0.5 mm. 0.02mm sized fiber is used to make this mesh.

When surgimesh was used during hernia operations, the patients needed less time to recover from the operation.

Important!

The common illusions

When people talk about Hernia, they usually refer to an abdominal hernia. There are other types of hernia as well.

Likewise, most believe that hernia occurs only in men. Nope! It also occurs in women, and there are complex cases of women having hernia during pregnancy.

Latest Techniques used in Treating Hernia

Treating Hernia

Punctures frequently occur when herniated organs push against cavity walls. To repair these tissue punctures, nowadays, a non-woven polypropylene implant is used in hernia surgeries. There are a variety of non-woven polypropylene reinforcement meshes that help surgeons restore tissues damaged by herniated organs.

Non-woven polypropylene offers several advantages over other biomaterials commonly used to repair torn tissues. This low-profile material makes it simpler for surgeons to introduce and place netting into the appropriate places. It also becomes friends with surrounding tissue quickly, experiences minimal shrinkage, and resists wrinkling both during and after surgery. This helps the patient recover quickly with less post-surgery pain.

All Surgimesh products are made from non-woven polypropylene biomaterials, but each one has been designed to perform a specific function. Surgimesh implants come in a variety of key configurations that will help surgeons integrate the netting into even the most difficult-to-reach tissues. Surgeons can also choose the products based on the type of hernias that they treat. Surgimesh XB, for example, uses silicon implanted polypropylene that is suitable for minimally invasive ventral, umbilical, and incisional hernias. Surgimesh WN, however, is designed for inguinal and open ventral hernias. (Hey it's getting too technical. :D The point is, the products are custom-designed keeping in mind the different types of herniae.)

Since Surgimesh has several products designed for different types of hernia surgeries, surgeons should explore their options to choose customized mesh that will suit their patients' specific needs.
