Survival Knowledge - Still relevent to-day...

Could YOU make it, out in the bush, on your own for a night or three? Do you have any "emergency" gear in your vehicle? Can you build a fire without a lighter or matches? Do you know how to identify, harvest and utilize any wild plants? Any idea how to build a lean-to type shelter? Does anyone even carry a little jack-knife in their pocket anymore?

All these questions and more, will be discussed here eventually for you on the subject of, Surviving, with your new Squidoo friend, LarryB. It has been said many times before and I will say it again, right here, that Knowledge, is the key to success.

Especially, when you're way out in the boonies. Some basic Bush Sense goes a long ways towards keeping you O.K. when the SHTF.

Here's a hyper-link to one of my new blogs, where I've tried to cover a fair amount of Survival stuff too. I really try to update it once or twice a week and add pictures each time as well. Unfortunately I've had to jump out of everything Internet related recently due to REAL World pressures etc, and THAT slowed me down quite a bit.

The good news is, I'm back on track again and rollin' down the rails now with more to share with Y'all... :-)

Take a tour over to this little blog when you get a chance. AND, don't be shy about leavin' me a comment either. I LOVE that stuff! ;-)

A Canadian webmaster...

Anyone else in here visiting to-day, have a blog too? Tell me where it is and I'll go check it out and even sign your guestbook too.

Surviving...

Knowledge to keep you alive...

The main reason I built a little web-page a few years ago back in '98, was to try and do My little part in the very basic education, of MORE people who would venture into the woods. You see, it's a fact that WAY too many people die in the woods every year, for various and sundry reasons. None of which should ever be used by or happen to, YOU. Well, not if you read My Survival stuff, anyway! :-)

It makes me extremely sad to hear of such needless and pointless waste of good lives, when most of the times it all could have easily been prevented. A little bit of Cool gear and a little polished solid knowledge to go with it, some of which is supplied on this "Surviving" page of mine, can go a long way towards keeping YOU alive in the woods.

Go check out this little Survival related web-page of mine to-day and see if you can learn something from it!

Making Fire...

No matches allowed...

Making a fire outside is perhaps the most important thing you should know in a roughing-it situation. We can build a shelter whenever we want, but a fire must be put together first, in my books anyway...

Here's a picture of some of my "fire gear" that I like using to keep my fire building skills sharp. There's a cool little fire-steel or ferro rod and a Magnesium bar and a piece of hacksaw blade to go with them, along with a slick 10X Concave mirror. The mirror is a super tool to use on those bright sunny days and it works like magic.

Not shown here, but usually in the same pouch, is a powerful magnifying glass, which works real well too when the sun is out in full force. Have YOU ever used any of this stuff before? Maybe this year you can give these kool gadgets a try too? If nothing else, the experience will humble you a little. As I've mentioned before, without matches or a lighter, most folks would NOT be able to start a fire in the woods, even if their life depended on it...

Some Man Gear...

Outdoorsy and manly stuff...

Being an Outdoorsy kinda guy for better than 4 decades now, it doesn't surprise me to see just how much Outdoorsy related stuff I own. Anyone that's into Fishing or Hunting or even Backpacking or whatever will know what I mean by the term, Man-gear. Hope the ladies that may read this are not offended as I would love to see more women out there getting into this neat facet of sporty gear accumulation. Hey, it should be an easy change over, seeing as most of them have a pile of earings and bangles and hat-pins, broaches, shoes...well you know what I mean. :-)

As a matter of fact, Both of my past wives turned into pretty fair tackle collectors, in their own right, and wowed lots of office girls with their lunch time, show and tell, tackle sessions. I kid you Not! :-)) Yes sir, it was Quite the Show, when they brought in the slinky'est, slippery'est, and slimey-ist, long plastic worms, in their lunch bags. LMAO :-)

Anyway, until the Ladies send in a picture or two of their Lady-Gear, this then, is just a shot of a bit of "Man-gear" awaiting it's next outing...

Nothing too fancy or expensive shown here but all very serviceable and any part of it could help make a night in the bush a little better. Save your empty plastic vials and those old 35 mm film canisters to load up with some of the gear you can start collecting now. I Love those cool M&M containers, for nearly everything too...

Now I'm a Hubber too...

Hubs for FRE* with LarryB...

Yup, this Outdoorsy Canadian webmaster is @ your service again folks. Here's another great spot to get a jump start on communicating on the triple W Super Highway. A fun and easy way to your very own slick little piece of the Internet pie. Right up there with Squidoo and Google and You Tube in the cool, fast growing web based outfits of the Millenium.

Let me steer ya over there to check out my very first Hubpage to do with, of course, Outdoorsy related stuff.

Another piece of Kool gear...

Now that's Precision! :-)

I already have two sort of similar gizmo's like this guy but then again, this little puppy fits perfectly into SO Many of my pockets, pouches, bags etc. :-) You can never have Too many fun things, they say...

There are even two little screw drivers that fit almost invisibly into the end of this kool gadget. Of course, I forget to pull them out for this picture. Doh! :-)

Survival gear like this is not just limited to carrying with you when you hit the hinterlands. Nope, this stuff can save your bacon, almost anywhere, anytime. You just never know. May as well be at least a little prepared for stuff, seeing as things like this don't take up much room nor do they weigh very much. That little loupe is powerful enough to light the end of a cigarette with a semi-sunny day as our first test of it's usefulness. The neatly enclosed blade, like most Stainless Steel knives of it's ilk, is quite a serviceable unit, especially if you hone that blade a little, when ya first get it.

I'm married to a former Boy Scout who brags that he's never needed more than one match to start a fire. Didn't even have to rub two match sticks together! Good survival reminders!

Here's lookin' at you...

Fresh air via bike riding...

Biking on this old mechanical steed of mine, gets the air-jamming thing, workin' again. I bike to live and I live to bike, was one of my sayings about 25 years ago when I straddled a 650 Yamaha Special. Oh those were the days, my friend, those were the days...

These days, reality bites and I hop buses now and or ride this steel pony wherever I need to get to. No worries though. I'm gettin' Way healthy again because of it.

I Love this rig because it's really quiet, it causes NO pollution, and it can carry pretty heavy loads too. Then there's the pedal power which makes me stronger. Also, if need be, I can pick it up and take it with me almost anywhere.

Also, once it's paid for, that's it! No license to worry about and there's no fancy course to take or insurance scams to deal with. Just sit on the thing, hold on, and start peddling.

Oh ya, there's NO gas or Oil to buy either, so you see, it really does make sense to have a Bicycle as a Survival transportation device, as part of your future gear...

Get biking to help you Survive better too. :-)
