All About Survivor Tocantins

Survivor Tocantins was a CBS Television show that was filmed in the Tocantins region of Brazil. I have been writing recaps of every Survivor Tocantins episode, I wrote about Taj, I wrote about Tocantins Brazil itself. Here is a collection of all the articles that I've written, along with any other Survivor Tocantins links that I happen to find. I have seen every Survivor episode of every season, I'm a pretty big fan.

Survivor Tocantins Finale and Reunion Show

Finale: Will the Winner Be Taj, J.T., Stephen, or Erinn?

At the beginning of the Survivor Tocantins finale, the Survivors receive treemail. The treemail message occurred early in the evening, with a gigantic spider being sent with a cryptic message about being stuck in the web. They had to race through an
obstacle course shaped like a tarantula. Along the way, they would grab puzzle pieces. They would take the puzzle pieces to solve a puzzle. J.T. started out ahead, and retrieved the puzzle pieces first. Erin was the last to return to the puzzle station with the puzzle pieces. Erin almost caught up, and was just about ready to solve the puzzle, when J.T. completed the puzzle.

Erinn tried to convince Stephen and J.T. to vote out Taj. She told them about how likeable she was and how she would probably win if she made it to the final two. During tribal, Jeff brought up the fact that the entire jury was made up of former Timbira members, and Erinn might have a shot at the jury votes because she had been in a tribe with her. Erinn's suggestion paid off, and Taj was the next Survivor voted off. Fortunately, she didn't need the money. Read more about the Survivor Tocantins Finale.

Reunion: More About the Survivors

The reunion show began with the final results. For the second time in Survivor history, the vote was unanimous, with J.T. winning. During the reunion show, Jeff had J.T.'s tooth. J.T. didn't want the tooth, but his mom did. Jeff interviewed J.T.'s mom, and she told Jeff that she had believed for three years that J.T. could win the game.

Jeff said that he had never guessed that everybody would love her the most. He mentioned that Taj had been a pop star on her own (the first time during the television show that it had been mentioned). She mentioned how she had not been outdoorsy prior to going to Survivor, but once she was out there, she got the hang of things. Jeff went out to the audience to talk to her husband, Eddie George from the NFL. He had been a Royal Ranger, where he learned how to start a fire. Read more about the Survivor Tocantins Reunion Show

James "J.T." Thomas Jr.

Winner!

J.T. seemed like a nice guy, and that contributed to his win. Although he seemed to be going along for the ride, making friends with everybody, he was actually smarter than that. He's not exactly trustworthy, but people thought that he was. He made an alliance with Taj and Stephen, but he broke it up and voted out Taj first. Stephen made a lot of mistakes during the final plea in front of the jury, and J.T. ended up with the second unanimous win in Survivor history.

Stephen Fishbach

In the Alliance with the Immunity Idol

Stephen had a strong alliance with J.T. and Taj. He made it to the final two, but he completely screwed up his answers during the final jury plea. It made interesting television, but didn't help him win any votes. J.T. won unanimously.

Erinn Lobdell

Third Place

Erinn made a bold move after making the final four, convincing Stephen and J.T. that they had no chance against Taj. She thought she might make it to the final two, but J.T. chose friendship over a sure win.

Tamara "Taj" Johnson-George

Fourth Place

Taj had a strong alliance with J.T. and Stephen. She got a little lax and assumed that her alliance would stay strong until the end. Although it wasn't apparent that anybody recognized her as a member of the Grammy-winning trio SWV, they did know that she was married to Eddie George, the former NFL football player. She seemed to be the most well-liked member of the tribe, which was one of the reasons why she got voted out.

Benjamin "Coach" Wade

11th Voted Out

Benjamin Wade, also known as "Coach," has an air of superiority and arrogance around him. He also believes that he has impeccable integrity, yet he lied (and then lied about lying). He does have a lot of experience with the outdoors. He holds the record for the longest kayak trip solo on the open ocean. His attitude and health dramatics probably helped him get voted out before Erinn.

Coach also appeared in Survivor: Heroes vs. Villains in the spring of 2010

Benjamin Has a Book!

While some of Coach's stories do seem a little fantastic, at least some of them are based on the truth. Check out his journal to find out what his kayaking trip from the US to South America was all about.

Debra Beebe

10th Voted Out

Debra allied with Coach, but was willing to throw him under the bus when it didn't look like her alliance was on the winning side. This backfired, and got her voted out in the next tribal council.

Sierra Reed

9th Voted Out

Sierra was the most unpopular tribemate and was voted out 9th. While she could have been perfect to take along to the finals because nobody would vote for her, nobody except Taj and Erinn (who voted for Debbie and Stephen, respectively) wanted to keep her around.

Tyson Apostal

8th Voted Out

Tyson is a professional cyclist, and hung around Coach a lot. He believed that he, along with Coach, were running the game, but that was not the case. He is considered to be one of the funniest Survivors of the season by his tribemates, but off-camera he is the biggest jerk and says terrible things about Sierra.

Brendan Synnott

7th Voted Out

Brendan Synnott, CEO of the Bear Naked company, is an adventurer and leader in the real world, but his failure to secure the secret alliance as soon as the tribes merged turned out to be a failure in leadership that cost him a spot in the final five. At least he doesn't need the money.

Joe Dowdle

Removed Due To Injury

Joe was an important player in Jalapao, and he could have made it to the final five, if it weren't for the infection that he developed in his leg. His athleticism made Coach want to bring him into his alliance, but that was not meant to be. Be careful to avoid infection while on Survivor, it has brought down many cast members!

Sydney Wheeler

6th Voted Out

Sydney didn't make too many waves on Survivor Tocantins. When she was voted out, someone had to go. In her final arguments at Tribal Council, she wanted people to keep her in because she hadn't been to Exile Island and was loyal to the tribe. Unfortunately, she failed to form a strong alliance with anyone, and that led to her downfall.

Spencer Duhm

5th Voted Out

Spencer is the youngest Survivor ever, and is also a huge fan. Unfortunately, despite all his admiration of the game, he wasn't the most athletic, and that proved to be his downfall. In his final tribal council, Survivors were trying to choose between voting him or voting Taj out, as Taj had recently had a few days with a bad attitude. His poor performance cost him a better spot.

Sandy Burgin

4th Voted Out

It's actually surprising that Sandy made it this far. The tribe voted for her on day one, then when she got to the camp early, she decided to look for the hidden idol rather than to try to set up the camp. She was loud and annoyed many of the castaways. She survived the first round of Jalapao voting by convincing the other tribemates that Carolina was not as athletic, and was bossier.

Jerry Sims

3rd Voted Out

Jerry was voted out of Timbira after he got sick. It was either him or Erinn, who was not well-liked at the time. Erinn capitalized on his illness and convinced her other tribemates that he wouldn't be any good to the tribe if he was sick.

Candace Smith

2nd Voted Out

Candace might be a former Miss Ohio, but that didn't keep her from being the first Survivor to be voted off of the Timbira tribe. Her negative attitude and bickering got her voted out, even though she performed better in the challenge than Sierra, the other tribemate that was on the chopping block.

Carolina Eastwood

1st Voted Out

Carolina was the first Survivor to be voted out of Tocantins. She could have easily stayed around a little longer, as the tribe thought that Sandy was old and they were upset that she didn't do anything while the tribe was hiking, but Carolina opened her mouth. Bossiness will not get you very far on Survivor, and it proved to be her downfall.

Coach Wade Was Voted out of His Job Too

While Coach Benjamin Wade had been the women's soccer coach over at Southwest Baptist University, he was fired from his position after he simply disappeared to go do the show. He told his employer that he was going to be gone for a week, and that he was getting cancer tests done.

Coach does not seem to be that upset though. He liked his time on Survivor, and intends to pursue a career in Holllywood.

Episode 9 Recap

Too Little, Too Late

Survivor Tocantins, Episode 9 started in the nighttime after tribal council. Coach told a story about how he was stuck in the Amazon and he almost died. Some indigenous people took him out of a kayak and tied him up and beat him with a club. The story sounded a
little incredulous. Debbie thought it was really weird sounding. In an interview, she asked, "what is he trying to be, Jacque Cousteau?" Brendan asked how much it cost for the helicopter ride, and Coach said that it was free because he "pulled some strings." The story sounded fraudulent.

Coach also supposedly learned this one style of martial arts that he supposedly had to go to a monastery to learn, and it was only passed down verbally. Now, I've done a few fun, interesting things in my life, and I'm sure that most of the other contestants on Survivor have as well (Taj is a Grammy winning artist and Brendan is an adventure-loving CEO). He said that Brendan had to go first, and then Sierra. Brendan was the "head of the dragon," and Sierra was the "bowel movement of the dragon," according to Coach.

Episode 10 Recap

Vote for the Hard-Performing Jerk or the Weaker Beggar?

During Survivor Tocantins Episode 10, Sierra is in danger of being voted out. She spends the entire episode scrambling and trying to keep from getting voted out of Survivor. Her position in the tribe seems to be very weak, and she seems to be begging for survival. Will she save herself? Will she get immunity? Survivor Tocantins Episode 10 reveals the answer.

Coach is happy that he voted off Brendan. He brags to the camera about how he can benchpress 300 pounds. He definitely thinks that he's hot stuff. He also believes that "everyone is a liar except for me." Really?

Tyson tells the camera that he thinks that Sierra is worthless, and that her boyfriend is probably not cool. As she scrambles to stay in the game, trying to convince him to let her stay in for one more week, he tells her that he doesn't think that she's smart enough to be the mastermind behind anything, and that she's going to be the next to go.

Episode 11 Recap

Honesty, Hypocrites, and the Unloved

Survivor Tocantins Episode 11 began after Sierra had been saved in favor of Tyson. Coach and Debbie felt like they were on the outside, and they complained to Stephen and J.T. that they were upset that they hadn't been about the vote. When away from J.T. and Stephen, they were somewhat afraid that they were next on the chopping block. Debbie and Coach contemplated allying with Erinn and Sierra, bringing back the old Timbira alliance.

The reward challenge was a trip to the Fervadora, a local spring, and going to a Brazilian's home for a traditional Brazilian feast. The Survivors were asked to fill out a questionnaire about their fellow tribemates. They then had to try to figure out who everybody else voted for. As they got the questions right, they chose a Survivor that they didn't want to win the reward challenge. The Survivors were out after three chops to ropes that held back a mallet that would smash a Tiki with their name on it.

Episode 12 Recap

Throw Your Alliance Under The Bus?

When Survivor Tocantins Episode 12 begins, Coach was upset at the tribal council vote. With only Debbie left in his alliance, he discussed with her the possibility of voting out Taj, and then Erinn. He seems to have the impression that he, and everyone around him, should be taking the high road, commenting "cowards cowards cowards all around me."

Seeing that the end might be near, Debbie approached J.T., Taj and Stephen, telling them that she wants to switch alliances and vote against Coach. Her approach doesn't seem sincere to Stephen.

Episode 13 Recap

Will The Dragonslayer Be Slain?

When Survivor Tocantins Episode 13 opened, Coach was shocked that Debbie was voted out, and was also shocked that Debbie tried to vote him out. "I'm like the lamb led to the slaughterhouse." What is he, Jesus? He naively believes that the game is still being played with honesty. He also realizes that he is not in control of the game any more. His asthma and back are also starting to bother him. Stephen is bothered that Coach is trying to send the girls off to Exile Island instead of him. He has gone from being the "dragon slayer" to a "lost man."

Coach is sent of to Exile Island, and he vows not to eat or drink water while over on the island, just meditate. How will he do in the immunity challenge? Will they vote him or Erinn out?
