I wish I could sew but sadly that isn't something I am good at. I have tried to crochet and knit and that doesn't work so well either...haha....I will stick to gardening! I love your lens. Thanks for sharing your story.

Just had to return to the House of Sylvestermouse to leave a special 'High Five' on this wonderful page all about my favorite 'little mouse'. :-)
  • bloomingrose Mar 17, 2012 @ 4:17 am | delete
And I read a little further - your boxer shorts story is very cute! You know, you have inspired me to start to sew I think.
  • bloomingrose Mar 17, 2012 @ 4:15 am | delete
Thanks for letting us know about SylvesterMouse! I love personal lenses like this.

Just had to stop by and wave hello - I have such fond memories of the formal dresses my mother made for me while I was in high school. It was fun to read about another seamstress-mother.

This is all very enjoyable. You certainly made that Christmas memorable.

I used to own a 1913 White Sewing machine that I worked to death... literally. I loved that machine. I can't sew much, but when I started a project I was in heaven. If I made a mistake in the middle, my project simply became something different. After all, who would know besides me, right? How I do miss that ol' sewing machine. Now, I have a nice, new machine that I have never been able to figure out how to make 'Go.'

Can't believe how much we have in common. Loved reading this.
  • EndeavourToys Aug 15, 2011 @ 10:23 pm | delete
Loved reading this lens. Very well written. I'm an only child so my experience growing up was probably a little different than yours. Our house was very calm and collected. However, my childhood best friend was from a family of 9 children and her stories are very similar to yours. I'm going to read your vegetarian lens next. Hope you have time to stop by my lens and let me know what you think. Nice to meet you!

What a delightful tale of how your name came to be. So nice to get to know you better. Congratulations on your 200th lens.
  • Ruthi Feb 8, 2011 @ 11:19 am | delete
Great lens! Love how you got your name! I was once an avid needleworker, knitter and crocheter, all that stuff... before computers, hahaha!
  • partybuzz Feb 1, 2011 @ 8:11 am | delete
I enjoyed this so much! I used to cross stitch, but haven't in years. My family has many cross stitch gifts I gave them through the years.

I wish I knew how to sew, but I seem to be hopeless when it comes to sewing! I really admire people who are talented in this way.
  • lynetteh Jan 1, 2011 @ 9:26 pm | delete
Dearest Cynthia, I was attracted by your name Sylvestermouse. I grew up as a Sylvester and was actually sad when I married and gave it up. So I wondered if one of my cousins had chosen to use the name online. But, no. You seem to be very nice and I like your website. I also sew, quilt and do may crafts and it sounds as though we shall see each other in heaven one day. That will be grand! Thanks for letting me peek at your life for just a moment. :-)
  • Wednesday_Elf Nov 1, 2010 @ 11:54 pm | delete
Hi 'Mouse' -- I've always thought this lens filled with your family and crafting stories was terrific. Now that I have some 'angel dust', I know just the 'House' to sprinkle it over. ~~Blessed by a SquidAngel~~
  • pastella Nov 1, 2010 @ 5:14 pm | delete
I'm not too hot with sewing - you should see the mess I make - but you are very talented. I loved this lens about how you came to be called Sylvestermouse!
  • windygig Oct 3, 2010 @ 11:54 am | delete
Super. I am a costume maker from way back, too. great tips and goodies.

I came to send you a note and found myself in the House of Sylvestermouse. I really enjoyed my stay and your stories. Your brother in his Christmas shorts. :)

You sure know how to sew! Some really beautiful creations. I learned how to sew in 4H many many years ago, but nothing more then the basics. Thanks for sharing all about your hobby!

I can't believe I never saw this one before. Stunning sewing projects! I love to sew too and made all the curtains and drapes here and everwhere we have lived. Wish I were still an angel. Love it!

This is great. Nice to meet you! I had a bear when I was little. When my son was born I gave it to him. I hope someday he passes it on to his child.

I also love crafting, and am master of none. Costumes for the kids and home decor are my usual MO. :D Loved seeing your story about how you came up with your online name. The shorts story is priceless. Lensrolled to my lensography and Princess Halloween costume lens. Thanks for sharing!
  • LizMac60 Jul 13, 2010 @ 4:01 pm | delete
Good to meet you at last. I had a similar upbringing with the sewing, knitting and crochet. Have passed it on to my daughter meltedrachel, who goes in for it all in a big way. Now I've found you I shall eaplore more of your lenses.
  • tssfacts Jul 6, 2010 @ 9:09 am | delete
I do all the above. My Mom taught me how to sew. She used to sew my school clothes till I was old enough to sew them myself. Today I still have unfinished projects mainly caused they are packed away. But my favorite would have to be quilting.

Stopping back by to wish you a (upcoming) happy one year anniversary on Squidoo. I will have been here a year the end of August and admire the many lenses you have created in just one year (I'm only up to 22 at the moment ) :-). You're a faster 'learner' than I am! I consider you one of my Squidoo 'friends' and love to read your writings, and admire your crafting abilities. Look forward to reading more 'stories' from you in the coming 'year' on Squidoo.
  • Sylvestermouse Jul 4, 2010 @ 5:36 pm | delete
Thank you and you know I consider you a friend also. I do hope you saw you were featured on my "Friends Make it all Worthwhile" lens.
  • WindyWinters Jul 4, 2010 @ 4:05 pm | delete
Wow. I didn't know Sylvester was an actual mouse! I used to sew as a teenager and young wife and do many of the usual crafts. Unfortunately, my old sewing machine quit working and I couldn't afford to replace it. I wouldn't love to get back into sewing and dig out the old needles again. Congratulations on your 1 year anniversary on July 7th! :)
  • vallain Jul 4, 2010 @ 2:47 pm | delete
I never had a talent for sewing. As a matter of fact, many of my sewing projects were disasters.
  • Wordwinder Feb 27, 2010 @ 9:22 pm | delete
To think that a little, lovable, one-eyed field mouse was part of the inpiration for all these wonderful things in this lens ....! May the House of Sylvestermouse flourish and bring joy to everyone associated with it.
  • imolaK Jan 18, 2010 @ 6:33 am | delete
I enjoyed reading your lens and I liked your little story, lol.
  • arncyn Jan 16, 2010 @ 9:56 am | delete
What a wonderful lens, Cynthia! Your sewing work is fantastic (I can never sew properly) and I love your family anecdotes and that boxer shorts story is hilarious! Of course you didn't have to tell your brother that it was meant to wear, er, as boxers. This lens is just sheer joy to read. (; *blessed*
  • ChapelHillFiddler Jan 11, 2010 @ 6:03 am | delete
I sewed most of my own clothes in high school and recently taught my mentee to sew (we made a lens about it); my next challenge is sewing my own "mother of the bride" dress, I bought a vintage pattern on etsy so old it calls the zipper a sliding closure... I also had a mouse I loved to pieces when I was young, his name was Julian and he was rescued from the high school science lab and he was a secret, as my dad had said we could only have one pet at a time and we had a cat. I had to "out" him for summer vacation and everybody grew to love him. I was so sad when he died. Love your lens. And thanks for blessing mine!
  • Wednesday_Elf Jan 9, 2010 @ 3:09 pm | delete
Loved the sewing story about the 'boxer' shorts made for your brothers. (I'll never tell). I don't really sew anymore, but do crochet all the time, and craft with plastic canvas. The subject of sewing fits in with my fiber arts lens, so am lensrolling....
  • Pastiche Jan 8, 2010 @ 8:14 am | delete
Woo, a new Angel! I might try out for that job one day. Looks like lots of fun. I love all the fiber arts myself but have always taken it for granted. I sew as much as you - along with embroidery, patchwork and all sorts of other crafts. Your boxer shorts sewing story made me laugh out loud! I won't tell your brother ...

Thanks for stopping by my Clip Art Borders Lens ... it's one of my favorites.
  • _Joan_ Jan 7, 2010 @ 10:31 pm | delete
You're an angel now!! That's so great! You're perfect for the job!

Thanks for stopping by my lens. Love ya!

  • OhMe Dec 5, 2009 @ 11:27 am | delete
wow, you are quite the seamstress. I was never too good with a needle and thread although I have done some cross stitching.

I loved how you picked the name Sylverstermouse. What a great memory. My daughter and I love crafts. We begin doing all types of crafts before the holidays and give them as gifts. This is a great lens.
  • ElizabethJeanAllen Sep 7, 2009 @ 6:57 pm | delete
I used to sew all the time. I even made my wedding dress, but today I limit it to crafts and quilts. I spend all of my free time reading and Squidoo'ing.
    Great lens

This is a wonderful ,warm, snuggly lens. You have reader engagement 10 fold.5* Welcome to Team One. I too have enjoyed creating gifts for my family and friends and they have varied over the years. I pretend to sew. My grandmother spent hours over her sewing machine and over the years I have come to admire her amazing talent.

  • puzzlemaker Jul 10, 2009 @ 9:36 pm | delete
I loved reading your lens and hope to see lots more. This is really really good for a first lens (or any lens!). 5*'s.
  • Jessica_Tobey Jul 9, 2009 @ 9:46 pm | delete
I love how you tell a story instead of just giving the info. You should include some photos of things you made. Also, you could create an additional lens about how to do some of the crafts you do, like a lens on how to crochet, for example. That would be super helpful to people like me who have no clue;) Great job and keep up the good work!
  • Stazjia Jul 9, 2009 @ 4:14 am | delete
You've got a great knack for telling a story and I love the blouse your mother made for you.

Hi, welcome to Squidoo. I love your lens name. I would love to see pictures of your craft. You could probably develop 3 or 4 lenses just from the topics mentioned in your current lens. Five stars to ya and best Squidooing.
