A T-Shirt String starts with one artistic soul. Someone that creates an original t-shirt design and then sends it off on a journey of self discovery and transformation.

A person starts a t-shirt string by creating a t-shirt design that they like enough to purchase for themselves. Then, they send their design's link to friends and associates. These people modify the design to their liking, purchase the shirt, and send the link further on.

From the modest beginning of a single design, a whole web of related designs can be developed in a short period of time. The original design will transform over and over again as it goes from one domain to another. What happens when the original designer receives an email from someone that they do not know containing a recognizable version of their art? What if it is from a friend and it is known to be from their original art but it is totally unrecognizable? What then? Links are sent by choice but, art is very personal. It can be a real experience.

Of course, the person that starts a string must be a strong enough individual to handle the stark realities and unique insights that will be exposed once a web has been developed around their original artwork and after their art has gone through so many transformations. A person that starts a t-shirt string should be prepared for the experience.

Once a design is sent out to begin a t-shirt string, it's fate is in the wind. What you can count on is having the experience and having t-shirts you like. Everything else is left up to fate.

Widgets are usually small web objects that can be installed on just about any website or blog in just a few minutes. You copy a line of code and paste it in your webpage html. You get a fully functional widget that will show up on your page.

A gadget is basically a larger widget. A gadget will take up a large section of your webpage. Where a widget fits in to a nav bar, a gadget will take up the whole webpage. This is just a general description.

Gadgets can be tough on blogs at times. They need a page without any sidebar. If your blog template does not include a seperate page template without sidebars, you can usually create one easily.

Both widgets and gadgets are easily installed by cutting and pasting a small amount of code in to the location in your webpage where you want it to show up. When you publish the webpage, it will be there, fully functional.

Custom Avenue has created a few widgets and a few gadgets. They even have a Joomla Component and a Mambo Component that can be installed in a minute.

Pre-Announce: Beta Testers for Online Design Studio Needed!

After nearly two years, our new online design studio is nearly ready to be tested.

In the next week or two we will be launching our new online design studio and we need beta testers to hit it hard and let us know what we need to do before we release it to the general public.

The design studio has many features that we believe make it unique. Until it is live, I am not going to go in to detail. Just let me say, we're proud of it. With some scrutiny and reworking... it can be so sweet.

Please come back soon and watch for the announcement. We're giving away custom made t-shirts (made by you), we're gathering pr material and we're generally having a good time.

We set up a blog and forum specifically for beta testers. Those who get in early and are active in helping us develop a better online design studio will be part of a core group of developers that will have more fun, reap more rewards and awards, possibly get some free pr and generally be cooler than the average customer.

Threadless is sort of a t-shirt competition but it's not a funny t-shirt contest, these folks are serious. They ask for designs to be sent in from their site visitors. If they like them, they print limited editions and sell them on their site. They are very successful.
