In this film, Tony Brtko a small carpenter is assigned as the Aryanizator of a small shop by his fascist brother -in - law Mark Kolkotsky in a small town in Czechoslovakia. Promise of fortune has seduced his greedy wife. Tony discovers that the store is owned by the deaf and senile widow named Rozalie Lautmann who is at her seventies. She is bankrupted is financially supported by the Jewish community who promises an amount to him to help her. Tony befriends Ms, Lautmann and helps her in the store. He repairs her furniture and eventually lures his wife with the remuneration. When the Jews are expelled from the small town by the fascist, Tony promises the old lady to help her.
Key casts are Josef Kroner as Tono Brkto, Ida Kaminska as Rosalie Lautmann, Frantisek Zvarik as Marcus Kolkkocky.

THE DIRECTORS : JAN KADAR AND ELMAR KLOS
Jan Kadar (April 1, 1918 - June 1, 1979) was a Slovak film writer and director. As a filmmaker, he worked in Slovakia, the Czech Republic, the United States, and Canada. Most of his films were directed in tandem with Elmar Klos. The two became best known for their Oscar-winning The Shop on Main Street (Obchod na korze, 1965).
Elmar Klos (January 26, 1910 - July 31, 1993) was a Czechoslovakian film director who collaborated for 17 years with Jan Kadar and with him won the 1965 Oscar for Best Foreign Language Film with the film The Shop on Main Street.
