- When my mom had TMJ, she was advised by her dentist (Hilton Head-based) to use mouth guards every night to avoid grinding teeth. Mouth guards are also helpful to avoid tooth lost during close contact activities like rugby. If you notice such signs of bruxism or TMJ, better visit one of the known dentists. Hilton Head, our hometown, is where I can say that there are lots of professional dentists.
