The Power of Mutual Collaboration

Collaboration is everything

Ward Cunningham, the developer of the first wiki software, WikiWikiWeb, originally described it as "the simplest online database that could possibly work." "Wiki" is a Hawaiian word for "fast". What makes a wiki so wonderful is that it's creation is a group effort - not simply the work of one individual. The value intrinsic to any one group of people does not have to be limited to what just one person knows or understands. Instead, you have the option to benefit from the knowledge, gifts and talents of others - provided they are made known and willingly shared. A wiki demonstrates in a big way the value of mutual collaboration. The good news here is that you do not need to create a wiki to get help from other people. More often than not, all you have to do is ASK for help...and you will get it.

Collaborate with incoming links

It's the back way to SEO success

Take two websites that are exactly the same. If one had 20 incoming links and the second had 100 incoming links, the search engines would see the second as more of an authority on the subject and rank that second in a higher position. Incoming links are important! The real challenge here is figuring out how to get other websites to link to your website. Here then, are some suggestions:

1) Offer something of interest as a result of current research in your industry, coupons, extensive list of "how to" guides, comparative reviews, etc.

2) Exchange blog postss with other relevant bloggers featuring something about your/their business.

3) Add your website to social bookmarking sites.

4) Add your website to online directories (not a strong link weight). DMOZ and Yahoo are premium!

5) Use link: www.your-competitors-domain-name.com in a Google search box to see where your competition is getting incoming links and generate ideas based on that information for your own benefit.

6) Add your own Social media pages to your inventory of incoming links.

7) Add your own business network (i.e. LinkedIn)

Social media tools help you...

Collaborate with people

The are a lot of social media tools which can help you get to where you want to go. Today, it's no longer simply how much you know as it is how much your network knows. Of course, if you do not even have a network from which to draw more knowledge, information and skill, you really are fighting an uphill battle. Thefore, people avail yourself of these tools - most if not all of them are freely available. Below are a few suggestions:
  1. The NUMBER ONE social media resource is PEOPLE. Connecting with people can do amazing things. Connecting with the "right people" could not only be the solution for getting your life back on track, but also someone else's. For details on this, visit The Big Lift and Marketing Sparks.
  2. Whenever you have a question and do not know where to go for the answer, use Aardvark. This is a service where REAL PEOPLE respond to your questions without sharing email addresses. It works with your cell phone, email and instant messaging options. It's a fast and very efficient way to get answers to questions.
  3. If your situation is such that you need to expand your sphere of influence - that is to draw others into your circle - I recommend getting several social media network accounts - Facebook, Twitter and Foursquare. However, of those three, Foursquare really stands out due to its amazing database which is freely available for your use. Here is a TV news clip demonstrating just how clever Foursquare really is. I also encourage you to visit the Foursquare home page and watch the video featured there.

What makes a good tweet?

Spread your message with help from others

Here is a video to show you how to engage people on Twitter. Just because you cannot meet a person face-to-face and shake their hand does not mean such individuals are somehow unable to appreciate what you need or helpless to assist you. It's a small world and getting smaller all the time - thanks in part to the Internet. Why not learn how to make this resource work for both you and those who willingly want to assist you with whatever you need to accomplish.

Do you value a mutual uplift?

The way the world works seems to be changing. Thanks to the Interent and social media, just about anyone can "stand up" and show themselves to be of special value. Question? Can this "special value" be utilized to transform America's economic situation for the better? Is this newfound special value option going to make life more or less difficult?
