I started collecting when I was 17. The first thing I bought at a flea market was a zither! I didn't know what to do with it...but I loved it! I have been finding treasure ever since! I have discovered that this is an excellant way to not only find special items, but also get bargains as well. I've learned a few things along the way. I enjoy passing my treasures and finds on to you.

WHAT TO LOOK FOR
VINTAGE TREASURE / HOW TO FIND THEM
GOODWILL OR THRIFT SHOPS / Bargans are everywhere, you just need to know what to look for!...Candle Sticks/Holders; Look for sterling silver candle holders. If you see a silver candle stick, always look on the bottom for a sterling silver hallmark. It might say "925" or say "Sterling".
Don't think you can find Sterling in the Goodwill? I found a sterling silver candlestick just the other day for $1.99!
Dishes: Look for Fine China, famous names,Italian dishware, or vintage such as old Pyrex. Look for collectibles, such as Stangel.
Furniture: Look for Mahogany, or other dark wood furniture. Look for labels that tells you where and when it was made. Become familiar with styles from the 70's and earlier. Of course consider the condition.
Artwork: Look at prints, paintings and picture frames. I have found astounding old photos behind cheap prints in frames! If you like it, get it. That's what its all about. Decorating with things that you love.

An antique store in NYC specializing in South Pacific items had a large, old Acoma pot by the Acoma pueblo Indians, New Mexico. It was hidden under a table and it was under-priced. I had it for years until a certain kitten, who shall remain nameless, climbed up to the top of the bookcase where it sat and accidentally knocked it over. Oh well.
