Tablet computers

The iPad was introduced in April and since that time the futures of the tablet computer world have seemed to be on the rise. Currently there are several tablets either on the market or being developed with the express hope that they can offer the iPad some well-deserved competition. They include:

• The Galaxy Tab-This runs off of the android platform designed by Google


• The Playbook-This runs the new QNX OS 


• The 500 Slate-This is a Windows 7 based tablet from HP


• The nook Color-This is a compromise between the ereader and the tablet

Rumors abound about even more companies and their plans to bring their own tablet computers to the market in the next few months. What we know for sure is that there were a large number of tablet prototypes being shown at the most recent industry get togethers.

AApple is convinced of the tablet computer's relevancy in a world that is finally ready to change the way it interacts with computing devices. The iPad's sales figures are certainly bearing out that certainty and many company's are hedging their bets by jumping on the wagon. It's still too early to tell, however, if the tablet computer will represent a long lasting change for computing or a flash in the pan, like the netbook. Still, as the iPad grows in popularity more and more applications for the device are being found daily. Its popularity doesn't look like it will be slacking off any time soon. With the prospect of some friendly competition in the market, we'd like to say that the future of the tablet computer is looking rosy indeed.
