Talisman the Magical Quest Game - Talisman Dungeon

Talisman Dungeon was released in 1987. It was a very successful and popular expansion. It featured a second "dungeon" board to the game which is placed alongside the main Talisman game board. During play, players could encounter entrances to the dungeon. The dungeon is laid out in a big spiral pattern, leading to the Treasure Chamber in the center. Many items are not allowed in the dungeon. Also, some spells and character abilities are nullified or altered within the dungeon. Players made their way through the dungeon and its traps and creatures to reach the fabulous treasure at the center. After reaching the Treasure Chamber, players are transported back to the main board. Where they are transported to on the board depends on a roll on the player's next turn.

Unlike the other expansions up to this point, the Talisman Dungeon did not add cards to the original adventure deck. Rather it added a new board and the cards that came with the board are used only on that board. Effectively it replaces the adventure deck (for you) while your in the dungeon.

Yep, we love new characters and Talisman Dungeon certainly didn't let us down in that regard. Talisman Dungeon added 14 more new characters including:

Conjurer, Dark Elf, Inquisitor, Gypsy, Highlander, Martial Artist, Pirate, Saracen, Scout, Sprite, Spy, Swashbuckler, Swordsman, Zulu.

I've got a friend who would basically cheat to make sure he got one of a couple different characters out of this set, they are just that good.

Ah spell... how I love thee... unfortunately, this is the one place that the Talisman Dungeon lets us down. It's a great product, don't get me wrong, but it would have been a perfect product if it had added some spells as well =)

Well, ok, I kinda lied to you a minute ago (please forgive me, I promise not to do it again.... at least not during this lens ;-)

The Talisman Dungeon DOES actually have 4 real, live Adventure Cards (and I told you it didn't have any... my bad). But really, they don't count =) The four adventure cards included in Talisman Dungeon are... drum roll please.... Place(4): Dungeon Doorway(4). That's right, the only Adventure Card additions are the doorways to get you INTO the Talisman Dungeon. That's why I said the don't count =)

However, the Talisman Dungeon does feature it's own Dungeon Deck. And here's what it included:

Event(7): Cave-In, Fire, Green Mist, Magic Mirror(2), Slaver, Trap Door.

Enemy: Animal(2): Giant Rat(2).

Enemy: Monster(8): Crawling Slime, Giant Beetle, Giant Spider(2), Giant Worm, Goblin(2), Living Statue.

Enemy: Dragon(1): Bronze Dragon.

Enemy: Spirit(2): Nightmare, Phantom Hound.

Stranger(1): Lone Dwarf.

Object(5): Bag of Gold(2), Decree of Banishment, Torch(2).

Magic Object(2): Crystal of Power, Gauntlet of Might.

Follower(2): Dog, Wiseman.

Place(6): Altar, Chest, Gong, Secret Passage, Snake Pit, Tunnel.

A very nice set of items can be found here. And with the random nature of the Dungeon Exit, the Talisman Dungeon can be a real short cut on your way to power and might! It really is a great product and a product you can still sometimes find by itself because it's cards (except for the four doors) were separate from the normal Adventure Deck.
