The Taos Chinese Boxing Center

Welcome to the Taos Chinese Boxing Center

Our school's primary art, Chinese Boxing, is an inside fighting system with an emphasis on stand-up grappling (sticky hands) and striking including close range kicking theory that is applicable at arm's length.

As a compliment to this art, specifically added for the aspects of competing in mixed martial arts competition, we are the host school for the Taos Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Club's classes.

Our primary emphasis is training young adults and adults to face challenges with courage and determination using knowledge and skill to thrive in difficult situations on the mat and in life!

Tiek-Soo-Chang Chuan Fa

Located in the beautiful city of Taos in northern New Mexico, The Taos Chinese Boxing Center is there for ambitious individuals interested in learning the art of Tiek Soo Chang Chuan Fa.

Thank you for your interest in Chinese Boxing and Tiek-Soo-Chang Ch'uan Fa also known as Dong Shou Chang Ch'uan Fa. This system has also been referred to as the "One Heart Way" and it's origins are rooted in the Buddhist and Taoist temples of China. The primary influence is the praying mantis style of Shaolin kung fu. The contribution of the Taoist influence comes primarily from a temple in northern China called the Wudangshen. The combination of these two evolved long ago into a well guarded system containing 31 open handed kuen (forms or sets of techniques) up to the black belt/black sash or expert level. The entire system contains over one hundred forms including empty hand & weapons (one & two-man) and has been described as requiring at least a decade to experience, a lifetime to understand and two lifetimes to master.

With a humble heart, I invite you to experience the beauty of this martial art.

Sifu Colin Hubbard

These Chinese Temple Boxing classes teach the traditional moving meditation forms of Tiek-Soo-Chang Ch'uan Fa, a Chinese Kempo system with a lineage spanning over 2,000 years.

Tiek-Soo-Chang is an ancient Chinese Kempo (way of the fist), fist and foot fighting, martial arts system combining the best of traditional northern and southern kung fu styles.

Historical, cultural and philosophical knowledge is included in the core training, as well as training in the three critical aspects of personal safety: awareness, tactical theory and practical application, bridging the gap from ancient traditional to the modern world.

Instruction available for beginner, intermediate and advanced. Traditional Chinese weapons classes offered at the intermediate level.

High Altitude Training

The elevation of Taos is over 7000 feet. It is highly beneficial to train at high altitudes. At high altitudes there is less oxygen in the air. If you train, you force the heart to pump harder to get oxygenation in your blood. The result is increased muscular endurance and eventually, your body creates more red blood cells than a person who lives at sea level. When a person who trains at high altitude travels to a lower elevation, they will feel an increase in cardiovascular strength for several days. These effects reduce over time as the body acclimates to the lower altitude.

Some of our Favorite Gear

We have these items and really enjoy them. They are some very useful things in our daily training regimen.

I got these for Christmas. I really enjoy the wrist support and they don't have too much resistance in the finger areas.0 points

Everlast Personal Round Timer

Everlast Personal Round Timer

We have this timer. You can set it for multiple rounds. It also has a nifty strap so you can wear it on an arm. It vibrates at 30 seconds remaining so you can up your intensity level while training.0 points

Perfect Pushup - Original

Perfect Pushup - Original

Developed by a U.S. Navy SEAL, the Perfect Pushup uses the principals of biomechanics and engineering to help you comfortably do effective pushups, without undue strain on your wrists and elbows. It also helps stabilize and strengthen the shoulder joint. The unique rotating handles allow your arms to rotate naturally when you do pushups, which helps speed up results by engaging more muscles in the arms, chest, shoulders, and back. As seen on TV. Judo / Jiu-Jitsu / Aikido Gi Piranha Gear Pants (Double Weave), Black, 6 or A4

These are black cotton pants made for jiu-jitsu, judo and aikido. They have reinforced seams and reinforced knees with cross stitching (quilting) for durability. Two layers of material from above the knees down to the bottom of the legs.

Made of 100% cotton with a traditional drawstring waist, these are the same pants included with our double weave Piranha Gear uniforms.

We have these made a little long on purpose so you can hem them to fit after washing.

A bit too far for me, living in the UK, but sounds very interesting. I've never dabbled in martial arts, and tend to stick to more gentle things like yoga and meditation.
