Meet Taya
Her biggest flaw is her obsession with shoelaces: she is fascinated by them. Anyone wearing lace ups is fair game to untie (Taya once pulled our daughter off the rail she was sitting on by her shoelace - they were double knotted :o)
We are now able to tell her, "No shoelaces, Taya" and after giving us a rather pitiful expression, she usually manages to restrain herself.
The History of the Paint Horse
"Spotted" horses have been pictured as far back as cave paintings. The word Pinto is taken from the Spanish root meaning spotted or painted, and the words paint and pinto are sometimes used interchangeably. The establishment of three separate breed registries, however, has led to definite distinctions between the terms.
"Pinto" is used to indicate a specific pattern of color, whereas "Paint" is considered to be an actual breed of horse. Therefore while all Paints are Pintos, all Pintos are not necessarily Paints (confusing, isn't it?)

The History of the Arabian Horse
The blood of the Arabian Horse flows through the veins of every domestic light horse breed in the world today. Historically, these horses have been the gift of Kings, a favored subject of artists, and the stuff of legend. The Arabian is believed to be the oldest breed of horse.
Arabs are easily distinguished by their gracefully arched neck, finely chiseled heads, dished faces, delicate ears and large, dark eyes. Arabians are known to be adept at learning and are considered the most intelligent of all the horse breeds. Traditionally, Arabians were bred and raised in close proximity to people and are valued for their unwavering loyalty to humans.
"Ranger" was the first known Arabian Horse to be imported into the United States, and was the sire of George Washington's gray charger, Magnolia. The Arabian breed registry was established in 1908, although until 1943 the Jockey Club managed Arabian and Arabian-cross registrations.

Interested in Arabians?
They're an awesome breed :o)
The Half Arabian Horse
A foal with one parent that is a registered purebred Arabian and the other parent is also a registered purebred of another breed is eligible to be registered as a Half-Arabian.
There are three types of common Arabian crosses that have developed specific names. They are: Morgan + Arabian = Morab; Quarter Horse + Arabian = Quarab; and Thoroughbred + Arabian + Anglo Arabian

Don't they make a lovely couple?

Equals Taya (A Half Arabian)

Taya was (and continues to be) a very happy girl. This is my favorite baby picture of her; I'm scratching her little tummy. She is all grown up now, but still loves for me to scratch her tummy (which is not so little anymore :o)

A memorable milestone: "Graduation Day"

A photo of Taya in full body celebration (see the next module for the rest of the story :o)
Little Sisters (Ya gotta love 'em :o)
On the day we weaned Taya (separated her from her mother), she went to live in the other paddock with the "big kids". She was so excited to be going, she didn't even bother to give Mama so much as a parting glance before strutting forward and taking off with Bella and Rina.Of course now that she was living with Rina, her totally cool big sis, she was morally obligated to annoy her as much as possible (photo inset). It was something of a revelation for me to watch these two; virtually identical to people. Taya bounced along behind Rina everywhere she went (sometimes running right up Rina's tail because she wasn't paying attention) and essentially drove her crazy.
The exasperation and long-suffering looks from Rina provided us with entertainment on a daily basis. Taya has, of course, long since mellowed and only rarely has the impish urge to annoy her older sister :o)
We do not have any video of Taya, but...
This sassy little guy reminds me of her (he's SO cute :o)

Happy to Lend A Helping Hoof...
When we began to build the new visitor-friendly stalls for the Girls, we had no idea how *cough*cough* helpful Taya was going to want to be. As a matter of fact little Miss Priss provided SO much assistance, it's a wonder we were able to get anything done :o)If you would like to see the completed version of their stalls, please visit our Accountability lens (there are some pictures of the stalls as they were built a little ways down the lens):
Where O Where Do Donations Go?
Looking for an official Squidoo Charity to unload all those pesky lens royalties?
Please consider Epic Farms (we need all the help we can get :o)
Taya has a very special paint pattern on her posterior. It may be upside down, but I'll bet you can figure it out!

I hope you liked Taya's lens, she's pretty proud of it!
And always happy to have visitors :o)
