Teacher Interview Tips - Can They Tell If You're Not Prepared?
Uh, Yeah!
If you have been through the interview process before you probably have some idea about the teacher interview process. But if this is your first go-round, or if you haven't interviewed in awhile, you will stand out like a sore thumb if you don't act with confidence. The interviewers will watch your body language. Will you shift in your seat? Will you look around the room (hoping to find the right answer to their questions)? It's not a formal thing. It's just human nature to observe those types of things.
The interviewers are most likely hoping you will do well. They will give you every opportunity to do well. But don't make their job any harder than it already is. Be prepared, be confident, and make them glad they have you as a candidate!
Teacher Interview Tips - Greet Them With A Smile
Make A Great First Impression!
Walk into the room wearing a smile! You may even want to rehearse your entrance at home. But don't look rehearsed! While that may sound contradictory, think about tasks you perform everyday. The ones you don't have to think about. While it's not likely you'll ever be that comfortable walking into an interview, you need to be comfortable "acting like yourself."
As a teacher you do, or you will do, a form of public speaking everyday. You will need to show that you have confidence and the ability to articulate your thoughts. It's okay to say you're nervous. They'll get it. But don't use that an excuse.
Teacher Interview Tips - Tell Us A Little Something About Yourself
They'll Ask You, So You Should Ask Them, Too
The "Tell us about yourself" question should not throw you. Why? Because you'll be prepared with a three to five sentence statement that will tell them, well, a little about yourself.
They will also give you a chance to ask questions. Please take advantage of this opportunity. You may be nervous, and you may think that all of your questions have been answered. But be prepared with a couple of questions. If you ask the interviewer why they're proud of the school, or what the people working there are like, hopefully both of those subjects will not be covered in the interview. If they are, get more specific with one of the questions.
You should take advantage of the chance to communicate with your prospective boss.
