Telekinesis: Mind over Matter
We've all seen Jean-Grey do it. Whether as Marvel Girl or as Phoenix in the hit Marvel Comic Series, she was consistent in demonstrating her supernatural ability to move objects using her mind. Even the local magician in your last birthday party amazed you when he bent a spoon by merely looking at it. Jean-Grey and the magician whom you thought was God when you were a kid have one thing in common. They have telekinetic powers.
Definition%u2022 Telekinesis, also known as psychokinesis, is the ability to control the movement and shape of matters using the power of the mind and without physical intervention. This includes being able to move, break, bend, lift or spin an object by focusing the mind's energy towards it.
Over the years and through thorough study, it was agreed by researchers that telekinesis or TK and psychokinesis or PK are two different things in that the latter refers to a wide array of intricate mental force phenomena. TK is limited only to the movement of objects, however small or huge, that is controlled by the mind. It can then be concluded that TK is a sub-field of PK.
Science Speaks
Telekinesis opposes the law of physics. However, some known scientists support TK and have even done extensive research in support of the field. Once a subject of debate in the book Parapsychology: The Controversial Science in 1991, supporters stated that even the things that used to be impossible and unacceptable in the world of science later turned out to be true and that researches done in quantum physics favors TK rather than opposes it.
On the other hand, skeptics of TK have gone to the extent of offering cash prizes to anyone who can prove the existence of TK. They rejoice up to this moment from the fact that the prizes remain unclaimed.
Modern Day TK
The reason why TK is still popular today is because TV shows, movies, novels, computer games, research books and even theater plays use it as an added feature in their work knowing that the public is still as intrigued and interested as they were back in the 1890's. Disbelievers can only sit back and watch the power of media ruin their years of work.
Telekinesis remains a mystery. However, luckily for parapsychologists and unfortunately for scientists, people of the 21st century find it easier to embrace rather than contest.
