An excursion to the South Central area of the United States will land you in Texas, where everything, it is said, is bigger. The state itself certainly is, with a geographical area of almost 270 thousand miles. Even with all of that elbow room, people in the Lone Star state are seldom lonely with a growing population of over 23 million residents. Texas is associated the world over with the image of cowboys, because of its history in the cattle industry. This association, however, is misleading. Living in the fourth largest metropolitan area in the country, the Dallas/Fort Worth metroplex, one rarely even sees cattle. What one does see, however, is a city that is expanding in every direction, skyscrapers, six lane freeways and lots of cars.

The landscape of Texas varies greatly, depending upon where in the state you happen to be. The Southwest desert area transforms into pine tree laden woods which later give rise to forests filled with oak trees. Eventually the oak forests merge into prairie and finally desert once more in the Big Bend area. In addition to that entire geographical melee, the urban jungles of concrete, steel and glass are perhaps the most striking in the large metropolitan areas of Austin, Houston, Dallas/Fort Worth and San Antonio.

In the early 1900's, Texas began its discovery and refinery of the oil underneath its soil. The oil boom helped establish the state's economic presence and brought great wealth to many, though over the years the Texas oil industry has been substantially diminished as reserves have been tapped. Texas now has its attention turned to space exploration, computer technology and biomedical research, among other things.

The capital of Texas is Austin, with a population of just under 450,000. Austin is an attractive city, with hills and trees and a youthful, trendy attitude as result of its 'college town' status. Voted one of the 'greenest' cities in the nation as well as one of the safest places in the country to live, visitors find Austin to be a laid back, pleasurable experience. Austin is a mecca for live music and indie label bands. It's a place where residents appreciate local businesses and retail outlets over those heavily commercialized chain stores when it comes to shopping. StorageMart, located in Austin, is a leading self storage provider that serves residents and students in the area in all of their self storage needs.

Helotes, Texas is a small town of roughly 4500 residents, located in Bexar County, just outside of the city of San Antonio. Residents to the far West of San Antonio and directly outside of the San Antonio city limits can choose StorageMart for cheap storage and quality storage units. Residents have plenty of opportunity to utilize self storage as apartment living is common and homes there do not often have basement or attic storage.

Texans are born into the idea that bigger is better, from trucks to steaks to fireworks displays. Excess is common throughout the United States, and Texans are by no means immune. Though the nature of our affiliation with resources and 'living green' is becoming more apparent, many of us still find that we end up with much more stuff than we originally intended to. Consumer spending is easy in Texas, where some of the best malls and retail shopping in the country can be found. StorageMart is in the business of helping people conserve their home space and organize their lives by providing extra space for their rarely used belongings.

Texas is a big state with big appetite for sports, shopping, music, industry and entertainment. The individuality of each of its major cities is evident, and no matter where you visit in the great Lone Star State, you are sure to get a kind, big hearted welcome from locals that will leave you feeling right at home.
