Plan an Elegant,Chic Thanksgiving Celebration

Planning your Thanksgiving celebration should be enjoyable, definitely not a chore.  The key to the perfect Thanksgsgiving celebration: K.I.S.S. (Keep It Stylishly Simple)! Each family has its own traditions and often brings its own ethnic and religious influences to the table.  Our family keeps it pretty simple, a beautifully set table, Turkey, dressing (my dad was in the chicken business so we never stuff a bird due to health safety concerns), sweet potatoes, cranberry sauce, gravy, and some kind of fresh vegetable.  For dessert we like pumpkin, apple, and pecan pies, supplemented with fresh fruit. Traditionally we have always had lots of family at our Thanksgiving dinners and I am giving special thanks this year that both of my college age sons, and even a few of their friends from school, will be flying home for Thanksgiving.   Nothing is better than having the entire family together for the holidays.

If done well, it should be dificult to distinguish a kosher Thanksgiving feast from that of a non-Kosher feast. From our experience, the biggest challenge is making the stuffing. Challah works great but if you prefer to use pre-made stuffing, these kosher croutons will work just as well as any of the traditional grocery store boxed stuffing mixes. Soy milk is easily substituted for any recipe calling for milk -- I like the vanilla. And use fresh fruits and vegetables! If you leave the baking to others, these apple and pumpkin pies are among the best available.

Make the Night Last a Year!

Don't let the night fade away with the morning sun. Plan ahead -- have your camera handy with ideas for least 12 shots of your guests in the back of your mind.
