Life Changing Answers
Virtually every creature either attempts to harm or run from man. This world is systematically terminating us like an immune system trying to purge the body of a virus. This is the reality of our world. Where can we go for answers; science?
These questions and many more caused me to rethink and reevaluate my entire life. I came to grips with some very difficult realities that in the end led me to a very uncomfortable conclusion. I came to a point in my life where I realized that everything that I had ever believed was wrong, and this lens is about those things.
Perhaps you have had similar questions or are beginning to realize some of these things yourself. If so I pray that this lens can help to guide you through some of the things that I went through. Read this lens thoroughly and thoughtfully it may change your life!
Other Lenses I Have Done
- Evangelism 101
- In an age were people have been inundated by televangelists, angered by the old "fire and brimstone" street preacher, enamored by promises of personal fulfillment and happiness by accepting Christ, and flooded with those who can't stand the idea that pushing your beliefs on someone in an attempt to cause them to consider Jesus Christ, how are we to respond as Christians when there are so many ideas and philosophies confounding our minds? Is there a simple and biblical answer?
Realizing Our Mortality
I Was Confronted With The Truth
Today I am a Christian, and if you knew me before I think that you would be surprised; it even surprises me. If you would have asked me before about Christianity I would have told you what I had told everyone else...As far as I was concerned God didn't exist, and He was only a figment of your imagination. I didn't believe in absolute truth because as far as I was concerned no one really knew if God existed or not, and that it was all a matter of faith. I also couldn't stand religion in general, especially Christianity. I had grown up in church for about twelve years every Sunday, and was really opposed to the whole idea. I mean, going to church saying prayers , and reading the Bible was probably the farthest thing from what I wanted to do. All I wanted to do was drink beer, smoke weed and cigarettes, and play video games. What would I want with God? Nothing.
A Startling Realization
I began to think about life and death. I realized that I am going to die. I had never really thought about it before (of course I knew that I was going to, but it never really dawned on me the reality of it all), but all of the sudden I just realized that I am going to die! My heart sunk and I felt nauseous as I contemplated life and death. I thought about the fact that I am a part of the ultimate statistic: ten out of ten die. I realized that death was the truth. That death is one thing that I can be sure of.
After I was struck with the reality of my mortality life became quite futile in the sense that whatever I did it wasn't going to make even one hint of a difference, and as time went by it became worse. I had no more desire or motivation for living, but I didn't want to die!
Facing My Predicament
It got to the point where I realized that I was facing something far worse then death. I had such a feeling of dread that I couldn't contain myself. All of the things that I had done flooded into my mind; I had to come to grips with the fact that I was my own worst enemythings that I knew that even if my closest of friends found out I would be excommunicated from their lives and utterly shunned. Every time I turned around I was doing something wrong. What is the matter with me?
I didn't know why at the time, but I started to realize that I was the problem. I could sit there and blame my problems on everyone else until I was blue in the face, but it wasn't going to make a difference. It was me, I had to realize that my problem was that I was a wicked person. That may seem like a strong thing to face, and it was. What made me realize this was my conscience. Maybe you will see what I mean.
What Is Wrong With The World?
Facing Reality

The Reality of Our Existence
Here we are; humanity, intelligent life, an incredibly intricate universe and world to live in, and virtually no one stops to take a look around themselves; never pausing to contemplate the incredible miracle of existence and marvel at the reality of life with a sincere desire to search out the mystery thereof.
There is an incredible array of life teeming all over the only known planet which can sustain such diversity of creatures so efficiently. An Unfathomably complex catalog of systems sustaining and perpetuating life, and a virtually untouchable dimension of galaxies, stars, and planets which host an exquisite reality of mysteries yet to be understood.
Present therein is a certain supreme creature with a unique ability to explore, invent, reason, and interact with their environment on an unprecedented level some of which consciously observing and searching out what is obviously a reality of profoundly complicated order.Humanity. A being of paramount superiority which has clear and profound diversity from every other known form of life. Noticeably distinct from virtually every other known creature which has in its possession some form of intelligence. Able, like no other, to reason abstractly, comprehend the otherwise unfathomable, and communicate with over five thousand different languages.
But there is another rather sinister reality we find invading what would otherwise be a harmonious co-existing utopia. One which dampens our hearts, is the source of our fears, and is responsible for virtually every known malidy conceivable.
The Malidy of Our Existence
Decay, disease, injury, illness, and death plague our existence with an immeasurable intensity. Creatures that would find themselves in an otherwise exquisite reality spend their entire lives suffering, fearful, lonely, anxious, in pain. Love is torn out from the roots, families split and lay in shambles, thousands if not millions suffer from hunger and exposure, and the very reality in which we find ourselves is our enemy.
Earthquakes, floods, hurricanes, tornadoes, and tsunamis kill countless thousands consistently. Snow, rain, hail, and lightning inundate our lives throwing us daily into an ever increasing effort for survival. The very sun (with which we could not live without) causes cancer, heat stroke, and death. Our bodies break and wear out, our homes deteriorate, and everything that we put our hand to is subject to decay and death. We can literally do nothing of lasting impact in any way, and thus our very habitation that would otherwise be wonderfully enjoyable has become something of a nightmare. .The Search For Truth
Scientists have pursued the issues to no avail. Telescopes and microscopes are invented in order to search for anything that would give us insight into our origin and purpose. Billions of dollars are spent trying to search for something that can be obtained freely: the Truth.

"For the invisible things of him from the creation of the world are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even his eternal power and Godhead; so that they are without excuse: Because that, when they knew God, they glorified him not as God, neither were thankful; but became vain in their imaginations, and their foolish heart was darkened. Professing themselves to be wise, they became fools" (Romans 1:20-22).
You see, the majority are willingly ignorant. Instead of honestly seeking to ascertain the truth, modern science will only consider evidence that fits with what they want to be the conclusion, and therefore since they reject the conclusion that reality leads them to all they can offer is theory after theory built upon an embarrassingly small amount of evidence concerning the origin and purpose of existence. The truth can only be found if the one who is truth wills to reveal it, and that is exactly the case. Two thousand years ago a book was finished; a comprehensive resource containing everything humanity is in need of knowing was completed sometime between AD 90-95. A work of some sixteen hundred years in the making finally reached is completion then. You shouldn't be surprised to know that many of those who completed the final volume were murdered. This work is commonly known today as the Bible.
Our Worst Enemy
A Cursed Reality
Thus, we learn that our universe is the product of the creative hand of a being of infinite genius and power. That the sun, moon, stars, planets, and every living creature was and is the masterpiece of God Himself. The Bible reveals that mankind is the preeminent feature of the creation of God, and thus made distinct from all other life. Made with the very nature of our creator we are endowed with conscience, volition/will, reasoning, morality, and emotion.
In the first book of the Bible we find that when God had created the first man (Adam) He had finished the entire array of the universal creation, and we read that "God saw everything that He had made, and indeed it was very good" (Genesis 1:31). There was perfect harmony and co-habitation. No decay, disease, illness or death, but a world of perfection, perpetuity and goodness that we cannot begin to understand due to our inherent and orientated sinful influences.
The Curse of Corruption
But man was a fool, and in the worst possible act of ingratitude for all that His loving creator had done for him, betrayed God in his heart, and went and did the very thing that his God had commanded him not to thus plunging the entire human race and universe into corruption.
Grieved that the man He had created would turn against Him in such a horrendous manner God graciously stayed His hand of justice for the sake of their lives (Adam and Eve), and cursed the universe and mankind to forever cry out against mankind as a reminder of their disobedience with the promise that a day would come when perfection would be restored.
"And unto Adam he [God] said, Because thou hast hearkened unto the voice of thy wife, and hast eaten of the tree, of which I commanded thee, saying, Thou shalt not eat of it: cursed is the ground for thy sake; in sorrow shalt thou eat of it all the days of thy life; Thorns also and thistles shall it bring forth to thee; and thou shalt eat the herb of the field; In the sweat of thy face shalt thou eat bread, till thou return unto the ground; for out of it wast thou taken: for dust thou art, and unto dust shalt thou return. And Adam called his wife's name Eve; because she was the mother of all living. Unto Adam also and to his wife did the LORD God make coats of skins, and clothed them. (Genesis 3:17-21).
Therefore, by this act of enmity against God our creator we have brought upon ourselves death, decay, disease, and injury. All of the horrendous experiences of this life spring forth from our choice to reject the very God that created us. We have become our own worst enemies, and the very reason you will suffer all of the pains of this life is because of your wickedness and rebellion.
So you see, the nightmare is not our existence, it is us. We have turned ourselves against the very world we find ourselves a part of. Virtually every creature either attempts to harm or run from such a vile and wicked being as man. This world is systematically terminating us like an immune system trying to purge the body of a virus. This is the reality of our world. This is the reality of a fallen creation. The Reality of Your Sin
Coming To Grips With The Reality of Your Wickedness
Discovering My Problem
What I was beginning to understand was that I was a fool that had spent his entire life lying to himself and living in a fantasy world that denied and dismissed my moral failure. I couldn't believe what I read in the Bible. I knew it was true! For the first time I began to see very obviously what I had somehow managed to ignore my entire life.
"And even as they did not like to retain God in their knowledge, God gave them over to a reprobate mind, to do those things which are not convenient" (Romans 1:28).The reality of mankind's corruption can be easily seen when put in the proper perspective. Quite often people are uncomfortable with a high moral standard, and they will adopt a new standard to better fit their own actions. Think about it for a second. If you were making up your own rules to live by, wouldn't it make sense to make the rules conform to your way of living eliminating a direct change in your behavior? In doing so you have degenerated the moral standard of good to fit your own actions, and the perpetuation of this can cause the elimination of the knowledge of righteousness relatively rapidly in a society and culture. They very quickly loose sight of the reality of their conscience and are given over to outright wickedness.
I suggest to you that this is what mankind has done. It is quite obvious that there are things in the present time that have been deemed acceptable in society that were considered moral abominations only sixty years ago. Things that were looked down upon and detested have now been glamorized and exalted as the thing to do.
For instance: if what many Christians wear to the beach in public today in good conscience would have been worn only sixty years ago, the secular authorities would have arrested them and either placed them in jail or in a mental ward. If in sixty years the morality of this nation had plummeted to such depths how much more since the fall of mankind from perfection?
You see, you have no idea what right even is, and because you don't know righteousness you cannot possibly comprehend the extreme evil in your own life. Like me you have probably lived your life honestly believing that you are a relatively good person, but the truth is that you may very well be the most heinously wicked creature imaginable.

An Explanation That You Will Probably Disagree With
The Divine Dilemma
Your Biggest Problem
If God is Just He Cannot Forgive You
Your sin posses an extremely difficult problem for you. God is by nature just, and deeply hates and loathes sin. The Bible reveals that He even hates those who practice wickedness (cf. Psalm 5:4-5). God is altogether good, and therefore cannot in any way shape or form passover those who have acted out in blatant rebellion.
You see, you are not a victim, but a rebel; a fugitive against the throne of heaven. Since childhood you have set your face in opposition to every order and law that God has ordained. He created you with loving hands; He knit you together, as it were, in your mother's womb, and in return you have done nothing but scorn and blaspheme Him. The fact that you are even still breathing is a manifestation of God's amazing grace, for you do not deserve even one breath.
"Now, if you are unrepentant, you have never obeyed your maker. Every step that you have taken has added to you crimes. When God has fanned your heaving lungs, you have breathed out your poisonous breath in rebellion against Him. How Should God feel toward you? You have walked over the principles of righteousness with unsanctified feet. You have lifted up your hands, filled with poison weapons, against the throne of the almighty. You have spurned every principle of right, of love, and of happiness. You are the enemy of God, a foe of man and a child of the devil in league with hell. Ought not God hate you with all His heart?"
-C.H. Spurgeon
Therefore, if God is just, He cannot forgive you, pardon you, nor can He declare you righteous. He can only condemn you to the deepest part of hell. You are a vile enemy, and God's just nature demands payment to be made from your hand; your death as a satisfaction of justice.
"The cowardly, unbelieving, abominable, murderers, sexually immoral, sorcerers, idolaters, and all liars shall have their part in the lake which burns with fire" (Revelation 21:8).God is the Judge of all the Earth, and shall not the judge of all the Earth do right? It is His place to see that justice is done, that evil is punished, and that right is vindicated. It would not be appropriate for the heavenly judge to pardon the wicked any more than it would be for an earthly judge to pardon the criminal who stands before him in a court of law. Is it not our frequent complaint that our justice system is corrupt? Do we not cringe when convicted criminals are pardoned? Should we expect less justice from God than we do from our own judges?
Therefore we surely would expect that since God is all powerful and sovereign over all matters; that if God loves the people that He created He certainly would see that murderers and rapists would go to hell. However, God's justice is in direct proportion to His goodness. For since God is absolutely good He must therefore be absolutely just meaning that He will not stop at rapists and murderers, but also punish liars, thieves, and all other sin that we might otherwise think to be a non-issue. Yet we have already seen that we cannot understand right due to our fallen influences, and thus God's absolute goodness will perpetuate absolute justice landing each one of us with an absolutely just verdict and sentence in hell.
The Divine Answer
God's Provision In Christ
Since Adam's sin in the Garden of Eden (cf. Genesis 3:1-21) and the whole of creation fell, as it were, from the perfection and majesty that it once was God already had a purpose in motion for the redemption and reestablishment of His rule and glory upon Earth, and would therefore need to purge all wickedness from it; to eliminate all disorder that order may reign. As we have seen this posses an issue in that man is the cause and continual instigator of evil on the Earth. However, in spite of man's continual hostility toward God He still loves His creation, and had promised within Himself that He would not utterly destroy mankind from the face of the Earth, but for the praise of His own glory and great love with which He loves His people, initiate a rescue operation so that both in the destruction of the wicked and salvation of the righteous He might display the greatness and glory of His majesty.
Thus God revealed to those of old that even though God (by His just and righteous nature) must destroy all the wicked, that He would somehow satisfy the demands of justice and deliver certain people from the power of sin and the consequences thereof.
Throughout the ages God would raise up prophets, as it were, put His Spirit in them and they would preach and write the very words that God spoke to them. They would testify of God's righteousness and man's sin, and as God revealed it they began to write about One who would come to save mankind from sin. The prophets (by the inspiration and direction of God) wrote in great detail concerning who this Man would be, the life that He would live, and the death that He would ultimately die in the place of His people. They said that He would be born in a town called Bethlehem (cf. Micah 5:2) from a young woman who was a virgin and that it would be God Himself (cf. Isaiah 7:14, 9:6). These are just a couple of dozens of predictions of who this Person would be: the answer to man's greatest problem.
The Coming of The Messiah

"In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. The same was in the beginning with God. All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made. In him was life; and the life was the light of men. That was the true Light, which lighteth every man that cometh into the world. He was in the world, and the world was made by him, and the world knew him not. He came unto his own, and his own received him not. But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name: Which were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God. And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth" (John 1:1-4,9-14).
The historical record of the Bible maintains that early in the first century AD in the town of Bethlehem the One of whom it was foretold was born in a stable from a virgin mother, and this child was God who had come into this world, taking on the form and likeness of a man. This God-man named Y'shua (more commonly known by the Greek transliterated version being Jesus) was a perfect and sinless man. He never once sinned in thought, word, or deed. The testimony of eyewitnesses show that when He came
He performed amazing miracles of restoring life to the dead, sight to the blind, mobility to the paralyzed, and cured all manner of illness and disease among the people. Jesus claimed and demonstrated that He was the fulfillment of the Messianic prophesies, and the One who was coming was foreshadowed by the ceremonial system of the Old Testament.Jesus announced the arrival of God's Kingdom upon the Earth, and spent a majority of His time calling people to follow Him in complete abandon with promises of eternal or everlasting life.He claimed that He is the initiator and sustainer of life, and demonstrated this by restoring life to dead people on several occasions. It is said of Him that He spoke the most profound words ever uttered, and they have been accurately recorded by His contemporaries in the Bible.
The Crucifixion And Resurrection of Jesus
Toward the end of Jesus' three year ministry He announced to His disciples (close followers) that He would be betrayed and killed by the religious establishment, but that this was the very purpose for which He had come; the fulfillment of the prophesied death of the messiah. For in that, He would satisfy the demands of God's justice against wicked men, and reconcile them to their creator whom they had all betrayed in their sinful and rebellious lifestyle.
Jesus Christ was betrayed by one of His disciples, arrested, and taken the Chief Priests and Pharisees where He was accused of healing people by the power of the devil and claiming that He Himself was God. They then took Him to the Romans (since Jerusalem was heavily occupied and under the Roman government at the time) to be tried and executed.
"Then the soldiers of the governor took Jesus into the common hall, and gathered unto him the whole band of soldiers. And they stripped him, and put on him a scarlet robe. And when they had platted a crown of thorns, they put it upon his head, and a reed in his right hand: and they bowed the knee before him, and mocked him, saying, Hail, King of the Jews! And they spit upon him,
and took the reed, and smote him on the head. And after that they had mocked him, they took the robe off from him, and put his own raiment on him, and led him away to crucify him. And as they came out, they found a man of Cyrene, Simon by name: him they compelled to bear his cross.
"And when they were come unto a place called Golgotha, that is to say, a place of a skull, They gave him vinegar to drink mingled with gall: and when he had tasted thereof, he would not drink. And they crucified him, and parted his garments, casting lots: that it might be fulfilled which was spoken by the prophet, They parted my garments among them, and upon my vesture did they cast lots. And sitting down they watched him there; and set up over his head his accusation written, THIS IS JESUS THE KING OF THE JEWS"(Matthew 27:27-37).
They took Him down off of the cross and buried Him in a tomb where He lay for a day and two nights after which He rose from the dead, and declared to all that He has paid the price for sin, and that now because of His death a person's sin debt is paid and because of His life and resurrection God, by faith, accounts the believing person righteous by the virtue and merit of Jesus Christ.
The Cross of Christ
Understanding The Reality of The Cross
The Cross Modern Preachers Ignore
Responding To The Gospel
What Does God Want Us To Do?
Jesus' Gospel Invitation Was Repentance And Faith!
"From that time Jesus began to preach and to say, "Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is at hand" (Matthew 4:17)."Jesus came to Galilee, preaching the gospel of the kingdom of God, and saying, 'The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand. Repent, and believe in the gospel'" (Mark 1:14-15).
The call to salvation is a call to repent; to turn from our life of sin and rebellion to serve the Lord God, Jesus Christ from a heart filled with gratitude not out of a sense of duty. It is to be struck with the reality of your sinful state in such a way that you will do anything necessary to lay hold of eternal life.
The Apostle Paul writing to the church in Rome said: "I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service. And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God" (Romans 12:1-2).
In other words, because of the amazing thing that this God of incredible grace and love has done in sending Jesus to die on the cross; because God laid down His life, as it were, for you, you therefore shall lay down your life for Him in complete abandon and obedience; nothing knowingly held back. This is a command to take a stand for Jesus Christ and His words even if it means death. That is what Paul was begging his readers, by the inspiration of the Holy Spirit, to do in response to God's saving work.
Jesus described the cost of following Him in no uncertain terms. In fact His definition of what it means to repent is far different than that which is most commonly preached today."Think not that I am come to send peace on earth: I came not to send peace, but a sword. For I am come to set a man at variance against his father, and the daughter against her mother, and the daughter in law against her mother in law. And a man's foes shall be they of his own household. He that loveth father or mother more than me is not worthy of me: and he that loveth son or daughter more than me is not worthy of me. And he that taketh not his cross, and followeth after me, is not worthy of me. He that findeth his life shall lose it: and he that loseth his life for my sake shall find it" (Matthew 10:34-39).
We can see clearly that this is not an invitation with promises of your best life now, your personal fulfillment, and all the selfish and self-centered things that are used to attract people in evangelism conferences and crusades, but a stark reality that when a person comes to Jesus Christ it may mean the loss of everything that you hold dear in this life (even your own life possibly) in return for the free gift of everlasting life: give up everything and you get Jesus!
"Let the wicked forsake his way, and the unrighteous man his thoughts: and let him return unto the LORD, and he will have mercy upon him; and to our God, for he will abundantly pardon" (Isaiah 55:7).Never in the New Testament, or in the whole of the Bible can I find one instance where a person is saved by saying a prayer and asking Jesus to come into their hearts. If you will look through the entire Bible you will never see Jesus preaching the Gospel and praying with people for them to be saved. Instead the invitation comes in the form of a command: "Now [God] commandeth all men everywhere to repent: Because he hath appointed a day, in the which he will judge the world in righteousness" (Acts 17:30-31).
The Apostles didn't say that they preached salvation through a religious prayer, but Paul said: "Ye know, from the first day that I came into Asia, after what manner I have been with you at all seasons, serving the LORD with all humility of mind, and with many tears, and temptations, which befell me by the lying in wait of the Jews: and how I kept back nothing that was profitable unto you, but have shewed you, and have taught you publicly, and from house to house, testifying both to the Jews, and also to the Greeks, repentance toward God, and faith toward our Lord Jesus Christ" (Acts 20:18-21).

Can You Be Saved?
Responding to God's Initiative
If you have read this lens in its entirety that is worth applause, however it is all but a vain exercise if you leave this page with anything but the free gift that God offers each person if they will humble themselves before His throne..
How I Responded
When I saw the amazing works of God, and the sacrifice; the payment He made for me at such a great expense I could do nothing but fall before His feet and cry, surrendering my life to Him unreservedly. How could I go on living like a complete fool after I saw my Lord reaching out to me in such a great and loving way. I had never seen such love, and nor have I seen any since. I therefore continue everyday not knowing what else to do but to keep on discovering the graces of God in my weakness, and forever understanding His love in a greater way.
How Will You Respond?
This is the Gospel, and your response to it will be the determining factor in where you will spend eternity. There is no greater issue, nor is there a more urgent matter that demands your attention. Only Jesus Christ can save you from the reality of hell and damnation, and only by unreservedly laying your life down in gratitude for the will of God in Christ can a person ever have hope of salvation.
Jesus once asked His disciples the most important question that could ever be asked: "Whom do men say that I the Son of man am? And they said, Some say that thou art John the Baptist: some, Elias; and others, Jeremias, or one of the prophets. He saith unto them, But whom say ye that I am? And Simon Peter answered and said, Thou art the Christ, the Son of the living God. And Jesus answered and said unto him, Blessed art thou, Simon Barjona: for flesh and blood hath not revealed it unto thee, but my Father which is in heaven" (Matthew 16:13-17).
Who do you say that Jesus is?
"I am trying here to prevent anyone saying the really foolish thing that people often say about Him: "I'm ready to accept Jesus as a great moral teacher, but I don't accept his claim to be God." That is the one thing we must not say. A man who was merely a man and said the sort of things Jesus said would not be a good moral teacher. He would either be a lunatic-on a level with the man who says he is a poached egg-or else he would be the Devil of Hell. You must make your choice. Either this man was, and is, the Son of God: or else a madman or something worse. You can shut Him up for a fool, you can spit at Him and kill Him as a demon; or you can fall at His feet and call Him Lord and God. But let us not come with any patronising nonsense about His being a great moral teacher. He has not left that open to us. He did not intend to."
-C.S. Lewis
If this day you are angry or otherwise indifferent to the person and work of Jesus Christ then you cannot be saved right now. If that bothers you, good. Perhaps there is still hope for your soul. Pray that God would break your hard heart and reveal the truth to you. But if while you have been reading this lens something (or rather someone) has began to stir in your heart; if you see yourself as the most wicked of men, and hate your life of evil you can be saved. That is repentance, you lack one thing: believe on the Lord Jesus Christ and you shall be saved!
"I am the resurrection and the life. He who believes in Me, though he may die, he shall live. And whoever lives and believes in Me shall never die" (John 11:25-26).
"If thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation. For the scripture saith, Whosoever believeth on him shall not be ashamed. For there is no difference...for the same Lord over all is rich unto all that call upon him.'"
