The Kite Runner Book Review
Kite Runner is the story of two boys who grow up together in the 1970's in Afghanistan like brothers. Even though the two are very close, they are quite different. Amir is a lover of books, he is a well educated Pashtun, and is the son of a wealthy businessman that is a Sunni Muslim. Hassan is the son of a servant to Amir's father. Hassan is a Sh'ia Muslim, a Hazara, he cannot read, and has a harelip. Amir often teases Hassan and one time even hid and watched Hassan was beaten up by a group of bullies.
When the Soviets invade Afghanistan, Amir's family flees to the United States. As an adult, Amir returns to his home country during the Taliban rule and atones for his sins to Hassan.
The novel educates the reader on human suffering and heroism as the story deals with social classes, ethnicity, war and change.

In his debut novel, The Kite Runner, Khaled Hosseini accomplishes what very few contemporary novelists are able to do. He manages to provide an educational and eye-opening account of a country's political turmoil--in this case, Afghanistan--while also developing characters whose heartbreaking struggles and emotional triumphs resonate with readers long after the last page has been turned over. And he does this on his first try.

Set in pre-Taliban and Taliban-controlled Afghanistan, The Kite Runner is a thrilling story about fathers and sons, sin and atonement, injustice and the human yearning for redemption.
“The Kite Runner is both a coming of age novel and a journey into lives and struggles of Afghans.”

I think this book is very good, it really does open ones mind if they are willing to empty their cups. This book, is a very good read and I recommend (even though I myself am i sophomore in high school) that it be taught and examined in schools all over. Just one thing i have an iffy with on it, Amir is a romancist, and i am a realist.

it was a good book. but i liked the book alot better than the movie. i liked the fact that u could really tell what amir was thinking in the book. very sad but very good. a book that will stick out in my mind for a long time. even as a teen i could not put the book down. it kept me guessing and had alot of twists and turns. i loved it.

A quote from The Kite Runner:
"I sat on a bench near a willow tree and watched a pair of kites soaring in the sky. I thought about something Rahim Khan said just before he hung up, almost as an afterthought, 'There is a way to be good again.'"

- I truly enjoyed reading The Kite Runner as it told about a time, place and culture that I knew nothing about. The sport of Kite Flying and it's cultural traditions are fascinating. There were parts of the book that were very disturbing to me and reminded me of Lord of the Flies in it's description of the cruelty that sometimes occurs between seemingly close friends.
