Once Upon A time...A Raw Family Story

Stories are supposed to teach us things about how to live our lives. What it teaches is called the moral of the story.

I'm going to tell you a story and it can teach you something too. It isn't a bedtime story or a fairytale. It is a real story-A Raw Family Story.

Once upon a time--- a family moved here to the U.S. for a job opportunity. They moved here from Russia. Of course that isn't anything new, unless we are of American Indian heritage we all moved here from somewhere.

This family did very well. They were quite successful. They created different businesses and made their fortune. But that isn't the end of their story.

When the family got here the mom noticed that lots of foods came from factories and were packaged in brightly colored boxes. She wanted to try them all, and she did. She also gained about a 100 extra pounds. She didn't necessarily like these foods at first, but after trying them several times she got hooked on them, like most people here are hooked on these processed factory foods.

She also tried things like a chain of popular donuts, that she added to their diet.

Now, her family began to discover that they were sick. Her husband discovered he had a serous thyroid problem; her daughter developed asthma, and would pass out some times on exertion like when she ran. The mom, Virginia found out that she was more than just overweight, she had developed a heart condition just like her dad-but she was much younger than her dad so her faulty genes were showing earlier.

Then she discovered that her little boy had type 1 diabetes. He ate Halloween candy and went into a coma. At the hospital the doctor said he could never get well- or actually be cured. It could only be controlled if he learned to give himself daily shots.

Victoria became very depressed, and she cried and cried. She wanted to stop and take time to figure this all out.

What was Victoria going to do?

What was Virctoria going to do to help herself and her entire family?

All Raw Food

Since she had been so successful in business she probably had learned that in business you looked for successful business models.

Now she looked for successful models in health.

After talking to healthy people and finding out that they would not buy the processed foods, and some so very picky that they would only eat whole foods and produce, Virginia began to decide on her own plan of action.

She cleaned out her home of all processed factory foods, and would only choose whole raw foods for her entire family.

Can you imagine how her children felt when they came home and discovered what her mom did in only one day?

It wasn't easy, but, she wanted them to regain their health. She didn't want to lose any of them.

Don't mess with moms on a mission.

What happened when their entire family went raw?

They all began to get healthier, and Victoria also began to lose some weight.

Sergei Boutenko and Raw Family book

They all began to get healthier, and she also began to lose some weight. After a while she even wanted to progress further. She then learned that they weren't eating enough greens-which was a very important thing to do. But, most people just didn't eat enough greens. So, she learned to make what is called green smoothies. Green smoothies had fruit in it that masked some of the taste of the greens. It smoothies also broke the greens down so they could utilize the nutrition from the greens much easier.

After that they got even healthier. Yes, they still had some faulty genes-like the rest of us, but they became as healthy as possible.

How Are Our Genes affected by our Lifestyle and Diet?

Genes can be turned off or on by what we eat

Virginia Boutenko teaching a group of people wanting to be educated

So, what is the moral of this story?

The moral to this story is:

No this isn't a fairy tail -- The moral to this story is that no matter what type of genes we have, we can eat as healthy as possible so the expression of the genes is expressed in a good way and not in a bad way.

The condition and nourishment of our genes make a lot of difference in our lives. Some of us have the genes for obesity. Some of us have the genes for blood sugar problems. Some of us have the genes that can cause us to develop cancer or have heart disease.

What we eat, or our entire lifestyle can make us turn those genes off or on. Our foods are demonstrated with the expression of our genes.

In other words our lifestyle has even more of an effect on us than our gene pool.

What does their story mean for you and I?

And is it Expensive?

Valya was sick-now she is well, healthy and capable.

It means we are able to write our own story with a 'And to Live Happily Ever After.

No matter where we are in the stream of our life, we can improve our nutrition and improve the expression of our own genes. It is our choice to be as healthy as possible---or not.

You can do your own research. You can find your own mentor or mentors. Just look at who is the healthiest full grown people you know and see what they do. Or read books written by people who have done the research and applied the wisdom already and are already living 'Happily Ever After.'.

And is it Expensive?

There is nothing on the face of this earth that isn't expensive.

But, nothing is as expensive as being truly sick, buying medicine, going for expensive treatments and losing days at work. Lots of time people lose their success while at work because they are working sick. Then, all this sickness leads to premature death. And the road going to that premature death is not fun either.

Find out the truth for yourself. Search it out, apply what you learn and become as healthy as possibly-- not only for yourself but also those you love.

My Story

Now, for my own personal story:

I was given a great start by my own parents. Our home place had 27 fruit trees, a vineyard, my dad raised his own meats. No we weren't 100% raw, but we lived a very healthy life with lots of raw fruits and vegetables.

Most of my life I have been involved in wellness.

I promote a whole food and highly raw diet. I am not 100% raw like the Boutenko's. Maybe I will get there---we'll see.

I promote the fantastic Vita Mix Super Blender, as I have used mine for around 30 years.

I also use and promote whole food supplements. For more on that click here For Glyco-Slim--Ambrotose Nutritional Supplements

Here's my nutritional regimen. First I do make up my Green Smoothies for the day. I vary my greens, and fruit with pure water, but I do use most of the low glycemic fruits. All greens are low glycemic. This is the pure green smoothie that Sergei speaks about. I have mine 2 or 3 times a day.

I pour part into my stemwear (I use stemwear every day-as it makes me feel good) and part into a jar for later.

Then I make a nutritional smoothie shake with all my nutritional supplements and they are usually chocolate, or cherry vanilla, or something else I love. These are blended entire meals. I fix them to have throughout the day for my meals. It helps to cool my summer down.

First I mix my dry ingredients, my Glyco Slim, Osolean, whey protein powder, flax seed, Ambrotose, powdered Plus, tsp of organic chocolate and Stevia-my supplements vary according to my own needs.

In my blender I have the beginning of a smoothie, greens, frozen fruit and water. I add my dry ingredients to my blender and blend. I add ice cubes if needed. Then pour into my stemwear-either large or small dessert ones. Put into freezer for my meals throughout the day. Lots of days I do have something cooked once. We'll see if I continue.

So, I do some like the Boutenko's and some like I have always done. I don't use any pre- packaged shake mixes Weight Watchers mixes, or Cool Whip or dry pudding mixes. (I used to though-many years ago.) I only use real foods. Pre packaged mixes contain chemicals, additives and preservatives-these are not foods.

I make many flavors but will admit to chocolate being my all time favorite. I make a Rich Chocolate Cherry Smoothie. The recipe I created is on another lens-Oh my goodness it is just too delicious. Click here for Recipe

I also make some Ice creams like Strawberry and Cherry Vanilla-and nothing is fake.

I seem to be very healthy, but, if I learn that I am doing something wrong-I will adjust. We live and learn-right?

Although I am turning 67 years,I am not on any medications. I work many hours each and every day. I help care for my parents (they are still with us because of this healthy lifestyle.) And so I feel that I am living "Happily Ever After."

I teach classes on Diet Wellness, write a wellness column for the local paper, and write here on Squidoo.

I try to do my part in helping others to live a healthy happy life.

I have to say, the Green Smoothie Song is pretty hilarious, but it teaches such a good lesson. It's those real-person testimonials, or stories, that really drive home the point about eating well. And what you wrote about the expense of being sick is oh, so true. If green smoothies were only pink, like a strawberry shake . . . :-) (Lensrolling this to my Cancer Warrior lens!)
  • Carmel_Aaron May 26, 2010 @ 2:22 pm | delete
    Dear Susan,

A green smoothie can be green, purple, blue, yellow or red, depending of the pigments of the ingredients in the smoothie. As long as they contain green leafy vegetables they are still considered green smoothies. Of course they should be delicious and nutritious-too. That is mandatory.

It is best to ease into green smoothies using lots of fruit. So, for pink colored ones-just add lots of strawberries of raspberries.

Amazing

This mixer is expensive but worth it. You can put a whole orange (minus the peel) in there with some ice and juice and have an amazing, delicious and nutritious smoothie! The seeds even disappear! I have used this mixer every morning since I opened the box!
