Settlers of Catan Game

You will find the Settlers of Catan game to be very engaging and fun for everyone. It makes you think about your opponents' game strategy and all the while factoring YOUR own moves. And you won't even notice the time passing by!

The original classic game was very popular and this new board game is even better! You have new aspects to the Settlers of Catan game and can add more players.

Yes, you DO get the game rules and almanac booklet to the Settlers of Catan game. So you should read it (quickly of course) to get started. But don't worry a thing... the rules are straightforward and is only 4 pages. You got lots of illustrations too!

And the maps... well, there is a beginners map and the more advanced players can lay out their own maps of the island... at random.

Next of course, the opponents (that is at least 3-4 players) will begin to explore and develop Catan. Every time you roll the dice, you may be able to collect resources. And when you do, you will use a combination of these resources you collected to to build new roads, settlements, cities, or even purchase development cards. But I'm getting ahead of myself here.

You see, this strategy game is addictive and really, really fun to play... for everyone. The objective of course, is to be the 1st one to collect 10 victory points. You see, each settlement is worth 1 victory point and each city is worth 2 victory points. There are other ways to collect victory points. So the 1st one who gets 10 of 'em... is the winner of the Settlers of Catan boardgame, until the next time this game is played!

However, the bad news is that you need at least 3 to 4 players. But so what? This is a GREAT game for the family and fosters reasoning and sharing.

I absolutely and wholeheartedly recommend that you pick up this game for your children for Christmas 2010!!

To sum it up, the Settlers of Catan board game is an fun strategy game that is completely different every time you play the game. The good news is that it is FUN to play, easy to learn and the advanced players will always be challenged every single time because the game is different each time you all play it.

I should mention two things for anyone who is a big fan of this game. The first is of course is the Settlers of Catan 5-6 Player Extension which enables you to add 2 more players to the board game. The classic game was only designed for 3-4 players. But sometimes the game is so much fun that others want to play too without waiting a long time for their turn!

So the answer is to get the 5-6 player extension. It is under $20 and you are going to be so glad you had to foresight to get this so nobody will be disappointed. But make sure you get the new Settlers of Catan board game first!

The second thing I wanted to mention was my favorite expansion for the original game, Catan: Cities & Knights. This time you will be engaging in the defense of Catan against the wild barbarians. They have huge and massive warships poised to strike terror in the hearts of Catan! So your duty is to compete with other players to build 3 GREAT metropolises of Catan. And these are MORE valuable than Catan itself and of course, safe from those barbarians that mean to do harm.

Not only you have to build the metropolises of Catan, you have to improve the city, improve the culture, enrich your cities and muster your knights for defense.

The Settlers of Catan Expansion adds more drama to the original game. But you must have the new 4th edition of Settlers of Catan game in order to play this Cities and Knights expansion set.
