I Love My Tilley
Oh, how I love my Tilley hat. As an outdoor woman (they make 'em for men too), this has been the most versatile and efficient hat I have ever owned.
While I live in the north country, I find my Tilley is still good for at least 7 months out of each year. During that time from early April through October, you rarely find me without my Tilley.
If I were to recommend one and only one product (that's hard to do) to you, my friends, it would be this Tilley hat.

Tilley Offers a Lifetime Guarantee and Insurance.
Yes, that's right, I said Lifetime!
Unbleached hats will be replace if they ever wear out, mildew or shrink.
And if your hat is lost, stolen or destroyed within two years of purchasing, send Tilley your "Straight Shooter's Statement of Loss" form (comes with the hat) or send proof of purchase and you can replace the hat with a 50% credit on the current price of the sadly gone hat.
Tilley recommends (in their Owner's Manual) exactly where you keep your manual, Straight Shooter's Statement of Loss, and other Tilley paperwork. It's a good thing! After a quick trip to their website where I found their recommended spot for my items, I was able to put my hands right on them.

The Tilley Hat Brim
Loads of options
You can get a short or a wide brim. Choose the brim that best fits your needs. Some activities are better with a short brim. Many activities, especially those outdoor activities that involve rain and sun, need a wide brim.
The best thing about the brim on my Tilley is that I can pull the hood of my foul-weather coat right over my Tilley. The brim keeps the damp hood off my head and every time I move my head, the hood of my foul weather jacket goes with me. Ever have a slicker hood up and when you turn your head you're looking at the inside of the hood? The Tilley brim will stop that.
The Tilley brim also works well under mosquito and black fly netting.
You can also get a brim that is a darker color on the bottom or inside. This is sometimes helpful with a light-colored hat when you want to cut down on glare, especially glare from the water.
Another super feature of the brim on my Tilley is that I can turn it up on one side or both sides. The handy snaps on either side of the brim allow me to style the hat that best suits the current weather conditions.
Oh, and the two grommet ventilation holes just above the brim are great for holding your sunglasses on the brim!
A Happy Tilley
The Wind Cord Keeps Your Tilley on Your Head
I've have had this wind cord save my hat too many times to mention. If you are boating or canoeing, like I do, a quick change in direction can cause the wind to shift from your face to your back in an instant. We all know that a chin strap keeps a hat on your head when you are facing the wind. This Tilley wind cord keeps the hat on your head when you've turned your back to the wind too!
The Tilley Hat Floats
There's no need to run over the Tilley with your powerboat because you forgot to adjust the wind cord and now you're in a hurry to zip back and retrieve the Tilley that just flew off your head. Take your time. It will be floating when you get there. And you can't swamp it.
The only reason to hurry back to your floating hat is so some other Tilley-envious boater does not beat you to it.
The Pocket in the Crown
My Favorite Feature of My Tilley
First of all, write your name and phone number on the pocket or somewhere inside the crown. Use indelible ink. Even the most honest among us think twice before returning a lost Tilley. You're going to love this hat so much, you'll want it back should you ever lose it.
Here's what I also store inside the pocket of my Tilley:
My Ontario Boater's License
My Fishing License
A note to the finder explaining how important my hat is to me.
I simply put these inside a small plastic bag and slip the bundle inside the pocket.
I never go fishing or boating without my Tilley so I always have my licenses on me. And I've done the best I can to assure my Tilley will be returned to me if it ever strays too far.
My Favorite Hat on Amazon
The Tilley is Easily Washable
Just Don't Add Bleach
Your Tilley hat will wash up easily in the sink and in the washing machine. When you're done, remold it while it's still wet (your knee works well) and let it air dry.
But my favorite way to wash my Tilley is in the dishwasher! I just put it in with a load and it comes out clean and in perfect shape.
Just remember before washing to take out any items you keep stored in the crown pocket.
Bleach can sometimes discolor your hat and Tilley will not guarantee it if it has been bleached. It's not necessary anyway. Even the most serious of hatband sweat stains cleans up beautifully. Even the blood (from cleaning fish or blackflies that nibble on my ears) my hat sometimes sports washes out beautifully. Many times I've thought the most recent stain on my hat is the one that will not clean out. And every time I'm proven wrong.

- I had never heard of a Tilley hat until now. I live in the high desert where we have intense sun and wind. I bought a similar looking hat last year. This hat has some of the same benefits of the the Tilley, however not all. Now, I want a Tilley!

- The Tilley hat is the best! My husband wears this now because of skin cancer this past year and it was recommended by the doctor---great protection from the sun.

- You are the perfect model for your Tilley hat...and what a great hat it is...attractive and so functional with its pocket and we all are grateful for a hat that floats when those little accidents happen when we forget the wind cord and being washable will keep it a long time friend.
