The Worlds Best Beaches

The Best Beaches in the World

What makes the best beach in the world is pretty subjective, especially as different people look for different things in their ideal beach. Some people are after a deserted beach to take a stroll down, whilst others look for family friendly beaches with soft white sand and gentle waves to play in and still others look for beaches with a party atmosphere, loads of places to eat and drink and plenty of stunning scenery (usually dressed in a bikini!)

So whilst I think it is impossible to please everyone on a list of the worlds best beaches, I have tried to include different types of beaches to appeal to everyone's tastes and I hope you enjoy the list an perhaps get some inspiration for your next beach holiday.

It is also important to point out that this list is by no means conclusive, indeed I plan to add to it as and when I discover new beaches.

Top Ten Beaches in the World

Beach Holiday Guide

Whilst researching for this page and for a page on my website: The Worlds Best Beaches on The Beach Holiday Guide. I noticed that there are plenty of lists of the best beaches on the web. All have different beaches on them and I think that this highlights the difficulty in building a list like this: Everyone has their own opinion.

So what I have decided to do is to select my favourites as well as those that appear most often on other lists on the web. The theory being that they have to be great beaches if many people say so - a kind of web vote for a beach.

Bamburi Beach in Kenya

Much of Kenya's cost is stunningly beautiful and Bamburi Beach which is about half an hour north of the costal town of Mombasa in Kenya is no exception.

Bamburi beach is a popular tourist beach and there are a number of hotels and resorts near by. The Bamburi Beach Hotel and the Travellers Inn are some of the most popular. I have stayed at the Travellers Inn and can say that I had an excellent time. You can also learn to Scuba Dive from Bamburi Beach as there is a PADI Dive centre located at the Bamburi Beach Hotel.

Beach and Safari Holiday
One of the best things about a beach holiday in Kenya is that you can easily combine it with a Safari Holiday. Tsavo National Park, Kenya's largest game reserves is just over a 100km away, with all of Africa's Big 5 animals as well as plenty of others, plenty of safari lodge and other accommodation options, it makes for an ideal one or two night break from relaxing on the beach.

Ghajn Tuffieha Bay in Malta

Malta's Best Beaches

I have been to Malta and explored many of it's beaches and Ghajn Tuffieha Bay located on the western side of the island is my favourite.

Because the island of Malta is very rocky, many of it's beaches are rocky as well. Whilst there is nothing wrong with a rocky beach and some people prefer them, for me a great beach has to be sandy, which Ghajn Tuffieha Bay is.

The beach is not far from the much more popular Golden Bay, but has a much more secluded feel to it and indeed because of this you often find nude sun bathers on the far end even though Ghajn Tuffieha Bay is not an official nudist beach. If nudism is not your thing, I would not let this put you off visiting as they tend to stick to the far end of the beach.

Rostro Beach, Santander, Spain

This is a great beach if you are looking to get away from the crowds for a quiet day out, Playa El Rostro is a small beach located in Santander in north western Spain.

Even though it is not far from the city of Santander it is usually pretty quiet. This is mainly because there are no facilities on the beach, so you will have to bring your own.

Santander is the destination of a car ferry to Spain that leaves from Portsmouth in southern England. So if you are from the UK, Santander is pretty simple to get to and with beaches like Rostro Beach makes for an excellent location for your next summer holiday.

Bwejuu Beach Zanzibar

Bwejuu Beach ZanzibarZanzibar is part of the Republic of Tanzania but has its own separate government and multi-party democracy and has some of the most stunning beaches in the world. The eastern cape enjoys good sunrises and has a handful of more upmarket places, and is generally quieter than the western cape.

The stretch of the east coast that lies between the villages of Dongwe and Bwejuu is classic Zanzibar ... a continuous beach fronted by a broad coral lagoon and backed by palm trees.

Four Mile Beach Australia

Four Mile Beach AustraliaWhat really sets this tropical paradise of Port Douglas Australia apart from the rest is famous
4 Mile Beach

Pure white sand lapped by the waves from the Coral Sea and overhung by palms and tropical forests.

As you walk the length of 4 Mile Beach from Flagstaff Hill behind Macrossan Street to the Mangroves of Dickson Inlet, you see no sign of the sleek well-planned development nestling neatly on the peninsula behind. You can have your own secluded walk in nature with civilization far out of sight & mind.

Hidden behind the palms and rainforest that fringe 4 Mile Beach is the well know village of Port Douglas. A favourite holiday destination for both Australians and overseas visitors.

Bill Baggs Cape Florida State Park

Beautiful Unspoilt Beach in Florida

Bill Baggs Cape Florida State ParkBill Baggs Cape Florida State Park is unmistakable with it's historic Cape Florida Lighthouse, built in 1825, with free daily tours on offer and the beach aint half bad either as it spans more than a mile and was recently voted one of the top ten Beaches in the U.S.

Ther is also plenty to do in this area, you could hire a bike or go for a hike on the guided tours and nature trails that take you through the mangrove wetlands. Play some golf at some of the best links courses in Florida. Also visit the Miami Seaquarium where you can swim with the dolphins so not only will you learn about these intelligent sea mammals, you'll get right up close and personal with them in the water.

Worth Trying is the authentic Cuban Cuisine or fresh seafood at the Lighthouse Cafe by the beach or Boater's Grill overlooking No Name Harbor.

Books on the Best Beaches

There have also been a surprising number of books written on the subject of great beaches. Below are a few choice selections that I have managed to find on Amazon.com
