Beirut, an amazing group!
Beirut is a great indie folk band, not talking about the City in Lebanon. The great music that Zach Condon creates is influenced by his famous jazz playing father, and his travels in Europe. This lens provides some background on the band, links to the official Beirut website, music clips, and video clips. If you like unique instrumental and lyrical genius, you will love Beirut.
A brief history of Beirut, the Band
Beirut originally started as a solo project of Zach Condon at the tender age of 20. Condon, now 24 (born in 1986) has since recruited multiple artists to join his ecletic band. The music is a mixture of indie, "world", jazz, Balkan folk, and classical, with French, Italian and Belgian influences.Condon recorded his first album, Gulag Orkestar, in his home in Santa Fe, New Mexico and was soon signed to a record label.
Condon's main instruments are a rotary valve flugelhorn and the ukulele, something I never thought I would want to listen to, but it is amazing!,
Beirut also consists of Perrin Cloutier (cello/accordion), Jason Poranski (guitar/mandolin/ukulele), Nick Petree (drums), Kristin Ferebee (violin), Paul Collins (organ/keys/tambourine/ukulele), Jon Natchez (baritone sax/mandolin/glockenspiel), and Kelly Pratt (trumpet/euphonium).
Beirut's second album, The Flying Club Cup, was released in October, 2007.
