The Camel Trail - A Fascinating Novel Inspired By A True Story
With the hypnotic writing style of the author, you keep wanting to read on, to learn the fate of the characters and it makes you wonder what twists and turns you will find in the next chapter.
Since it is an interweaving of the real life story of the author's family and some literary license, you try to place yourself in the main characters shoes and wonder what your decisions would have been in their circumstances.
As the narrator in The Camel Trail states
'An object - like the silver teapot - can be handed from one generation to another.
We have no control over the genes that we pass on, but we have the power to nurture an inclination towards sadness or happiness.'
How has the event of January 1st,1837 affected David Levy's life and the legacy of his family?
You'll need to read The Camel Trail to find out.
The Story Begins
Chapter 1 begins with Anna in 1944. She finds a strange letter and a treasure that leads her to thinking about her grandfather David. His story of his boyhood begins in Chapter 3."The envelope had no postage stamp.
In the left hand corner were the words:
'To be opened after my death'.
Someone had searched the desk and emptied the walnut
pigeonholes. Bills and correspondence were scattered in a heap.
The letter had been opened. Anna turned it over and read the first few lines:
'My darling children, As soon as I have passed away I beg you to ask the Doctor to sever one of my arteries.'"

My commentary
I don't usually have time to sit down a read a book. However, a friend of mine knows the author and has a great deal of insight into the actual events talked about in the book.
After hearing his interview with Judy Jackson and hearing his excitement over the way that MS Jackson has been able to go back and tell her family's story and relate it to the events that were happening in the world at the time started to get me very intrigued.
Once I picked up The Camel Trail I found myself having a hard time to put it down and I also found myself drawn into her family story.
Have you ever read a book or watched a movie and found that you were so immersed that you actually felt as though you were living in those times?
That is what happened when I was ready this book. So involved and close that I felt to her family that I picked up a few more books ( by different authors) that also covered the same years. I wanted to know more of what it was like to live in those times.
Even if The Camel Trail does not seem like the type of book that you are accustomed to reading, I suggest that you pick it up anyway & I know that you will truly enjoy it.
I also want to thank Judy Jackson for allowing me to use the photos on this page as I am truly honored.

The Actual Treasured Camel Teapot
Did the reading of The Camel Trail make you wish that you lived in the past?
Often a novel can transport us to a different era in time. It makes us wonder how life would have been living in a simpler world.
A world where our cell phones aren't ringing all day, daily news on the television constantly bombards us with tragedies and strife in our neighborhoods, shopping malls and fact food restaurants.
If you had the chance, would you like to be transported back in time?
Fetching blurbs now... please stand byNo. I like the benefits of living in the 21st. century
Yes, I think I would have enjoyed it.
Amberlyn says:
The past always seems to be much more romantic than today - we need a bit more romance in our lives to appreciate those around us.

How do you think that Anna's actions affected the generations?
Anna is the link between the generations.
Are you sympathetic to her feelings of resentment?
Should she have acted differently, for example when her mother forbade her to travel, when she finally discovered the will?
We would like your opinion to the above questions.
