What are the dangers of Aspartame? Are they real?
The defenders of aspartame? The FDA (though they had banned it in the 70s until bowing to apparent lobby pressure) and a consortium of aspartame vendors (who present the same level of trust as the tobacco companies).
The smoke screen movement from the likes of the FDA is absurd. Study data showing the dangers of Aspartame has been presented to Congress and the approval of Aspartame by the FDA was even under the protest of the members of the scientific staff on the panel. It's time to present a front and show the FDA that We The People that they work for us and they work at the pleasure of We The People.
In 1985, the New York Times reported "The [FDA] has set an allowable daily intake of 50 milligrams of aspartame per kilogram of body weight, and the agency predicted that actual average use would run around eight to ten milligrams. According to Dr. Gaull of Searle, levels of use found in a national survey last spring showed that the average was then already twice that - 19 milligrams - and the maximum level consumed by ''aspartame abusers'' was 28 milligrams. A United States attorney representing the F.D.A. said in court last month that average consumption is now 30 milligrams and that many consumers are above the 50 milligram maximum suggested."

Many people who have been regular users of Aspartame have experienced significant benefit after including a detox program along with cutting all Aspartame from their diets.

What are the facts on Aspartame poisoning?
Understanding the facts about aspartame side effects
This photo shows just some of the symptoms, or side effects, reported in association with the consumption of Aspartame according to the Department of Health and Human Services. There's a bigger version below so don't squint.
Keep in mind that a tiny fraction of these "Adverse Event Reports" on a dietary supplement would cause the FDA stormtroopers to raid every health food storm from here to Timbuktu. Why do they seem to be so unconcerned about Aspartame?
Aspartame accounted for more than 75% of all adverse reactions reported to the FDA's Adverse Reaction Monitoring System (ARMS). If this doesn't suggest the need for grave concern about the dangers of aspartame poisoning, I'm not sure what does.
By the FDA's own admission fewer then ONE PERCENT of those who have problems with something they consume ever report it to the FDA. This balloons the almost 10,000 complaints they once had to around a million.
Here's the chemical makeup of Aspartame:
Aspartic Acid + Phenylalanine + Methanol = Aspartame
According to Searle's FDA petition, all three of these components breakdown when Aspartame is consumed and enter the blood stream.
Aspartic Acid is similar to glutamate...which is MSG.
Methanol is wood grain alcohol.
Now, you don't need a PhD to view Aspartic Acid and Methanol in your body as a health risk.

Answers to questions I've received on Aspartame
- Are there studies on Aspartame for dogs? While many of the safety studies done with Aspartame have been on animals like rats, mice and monkeys, I am not aware of any studies on Aspartame for dogs.
- Where can I find sugar free baking recipes without artificial sweeteners? This depends on what you define as "sugar." If you want to completely eliminate sugar from your diet, you may want to reconsider. Glucose is necessary for life as well as is the case for several other sugar molecules. If you want to avoid refined sugar in your baking, look for more traditional recipes that use honey, molasses and other natural sweeteners that were in use long before white sugar. These molecules tend to be larger, bound with fiber and pectin and lead to a slower insulin response than refined sugar.
- What is the chemical makeup of Aspartame? The aspartame chemical makeup is Aspartic Acid + Phenylalanine + Methanol (wood grain alcohol). According to Searle's FDA petition, all three of these components breakdown when Aspartame is consumed and enter the blood stream.
- Are there links between aspartame and adhd? Some doctors say yes, without a doubt. The fact that glutamate has a known, well documented impact on nerve cells, anything that is controlled by your brain or nerves, can be affected by the aspartame poisoning. However, I am not aware of any formal studies linking aspartame with ADHD, ADD or Autism.
- What about aspartame and high blood pressure? Blood pressure is affected by the autonomic nervous system and aspartame is believed to have a negative impact on all nerve cells. Because of this, a variety of symptoms are possible, depending on what system of the body happens to show symptoms of ill health first.

I think the whole point is that there is no reason to consume artifical, potentially dangerous chemical sweeteners, especially when there are non-caloric NATURAL sweeteners available. If you want natural, sugar free recipes, try Amazon and type in stevia (non-caloric) or agave (low-glycemic).
for a soda with stevia (www.zevia.com). No, i don't work for them, but I'd rather see our money go to the natural industry than the evil Coke empire.

Very thorough lens! I haven't touched the stuff in years (I confess the exception is chewing gum). I have friends who drink Diet coke in mass quantities, though and I will point them to this lens. What do you know about Splenda?
