The House of Mouse: Cute Handmade Mice

Ranked #16,401 in Arts & Design, #338,567 overall

I make these cute little mouse ornaments from felt, ribbon, beads and loads of other materials. Each one is hand sewn by me and has it's own little personality. They are inspired by hobbies, jobs, films, movies, culture and many other things! I started my little mice in my Etsy store back in March 2008 and I can hardly believe how well things are going.

Do you have to be miserable to make great art?

I have made some of my best art during horrible times in my life, so I understand where the opinion comes from, but I believe that creativity exists all the time, no matter how you feel you can make great art. Many artists believe they must suffer for their art, but I think that is a myth. I believe being an artist can be one of the most rewarding paths to take with your life and I am very happy I have the chance to walk it.

Do you have to be miserable to make great art?

Yes - Only when you suffer do you have the passion to make something amazing

No - Art can be an expression of any feeling, you don't have to suffer you just need to be inspired!

RuntFarmSeries says:

Creativity can give voice to anything! I've often thought up fun songs and ditties while sitting on my porch appreciating the hum of the neighborhood. And then again, by remembering times when I've been sad, I wrote about how a painterly mouse like Cousin Clovis of the Runt Farm books was helped out of her blue funk by her inspiration to do a portrait of brave bunny Beatrice!

charlino says:

IMO, if an artist suffers, so does their work.

Tiddledeewinks says:

Being miserable might help motivate to more action (or not), but is not necessary. We can create any or ALL the time!

Got something to say?

Oops, sorry. Didn't look closely enough before commenting - thought I was responding to a comment on the Children's Books with Mice lens :) * blush *

Can't take credit for that, clouda9. Those amazingly expressive mouse eyes are the work of award-winning illustrator, Mark Evan Walker!
