The Amazon Kindle
Kindle eBook Reader
The battle of the giants, Sony eBook Reader and Amazon Kindle is fierce. The Kindle reader is now available from Amazon. Amazon Kindle is a revolutionary portable reader that wirelessly downloads books, newspapers, magazines and blogs to a crisp, high-resolution electronic paper display that looks and reads like real paper, even in bright sunlight. But overall the most important development in the Kindle reader is that it is going to break the stereotype that eBooks are not usable and convenient like normal books. Actually, Amazon's Kindle reader is an excellent product and a person can simply order books directly through the device without integrating with a PC or other wireless device--the Kindle has its own wireless connection that operates in the background.
Kindle's mission statement is to eliminate the need for hard copy documents, by providing you with a all-in-one reference source. Kindle is the first ebook reader with its own cellular wireless connection to let you get new books anytime, almost anywhere when the mood strikes.
Kindle has a standard-layout keyboard that makes it possible for users to search the Kindle Store, their entire library of purchased content, and Wikipedia. Kindle simply plays MP3 files in random order as background music without any user control over the order of play.
Kindle holds over 200 titles and Kindle does not use WiFi, but EVDO like cell phones. Kindle has no monthly wireless bills, service plans, or commitments.

The same Amazon shopping experience customers are accustomed to is offered in the Kindle Store, including customer reviews, personalized recommendations,1-Click purchasing, andeveryday low prices.
The email service supports several formats of open-source books as well as Microsoft Word but not PDFs and text-based, but not image-based PDFs (as colleague and reviewer Steve Wildstrom pointed out to me).
1- Amazon has actually out-Appled Apple in ease-of-use. Like the iPhone, Kindle lets you buy media - books and periodicals, in this case - without your PC.
2- Amazon's $9.99-and-under book pricing means book fans can buy more books. They can look up words in a dictionary, Wikipedia or on the Web right from the
device.
3- Amazon already sells books. The company long ago figured out the complexities of online book distribution and most book buyers already trust Amazon.
In many ways, the Amazon Kindle is the ultimate ebook reader, but to see just how far that statement holds true, you will just have to try it for yourself.
Recommendation: If you typically carry a large stack of books with you or travel semi-regularly, the Amazon Kindle is a no-brainer. The Amazon kindle is definitely a fantastic selection and can definitely be upgraded. The Kindle is the first ebook reader that I have truly loved.

Product Description
Introducing Kindle
Three years ago, we set out to design and build an entirely new class of device-a convenient, portable reading device with the ability to wirelessly download books, blogs, magazines, and newspapers. The result is Amazon Kindle. We designed Kindle to provide an exceptional reading experience. Thanks to electronic paper, a revolutionary new display technology, reading Kindle's screen is as sharp and natural as reading ink on paper-and nothing like the strain and glare of a computer screen. Kindle is also easy on the fingertips. It never becomes hot and is designed for ambidextrous use so both "lefties" and "righties" can read comfortably at any angle for long periods of time.
We wanted Kindle to be completely mobile and simple to use for everyone, so we made it wireless. No PC and no syncing needed. Using the same 3G network as advanced cell phones, we deliver your content using our own wireless delivery system, Amazon Whispernet. Unlike WiFi, you'll never need to locate a hotspot. There are no confusing service plans, yearly contracts, or monthly wireless bills-we take care of the hassles so you can just read.
With Whispernet, you can be anywhere, think of a book, and get it in one minute. Similarly, your content automatically comes to you, wherever you are. Newspaper subscriptions are delivered wirelessly each morning. Most magazines arrive before they hit newsstands. Haven't read the book for tomorrow night's book club? Get it in a minute. Finished your book in the airport? Download the sequel while you board the plane. Whether you're in the mood for something serious or hilarious, lighthearted or studious, Kindle delivers your spontaneous reading choices on demand.
And because we know you can't judge a book by its cover, Kindle lets you download and read the beginning of books for free. This way, you can try it out-if you like it, simply buy and download with 1-Click, right from your Kindle, and continue reading. Want to try a newspaper as well? All newspaper subscriptions start with a risk-free two-week trial.
Kindle's paperback size and expandable memory let you travel light with your library. With the freedom to download what you want, when you want, we hope you'll never again find yourself stuck without a great read.
We're very proud to introduce Amazon Kindle and we hope you like it as much as we do.

Utilizing a new high-resolution display technology
Wireless Access with Whispernet
Whispernet utilizes Amazon's optimized technology plus Sprint's national high-speed (EVDO) data network to enable you to wirelessly search, discover, download, and read content on the go.
Unlike WiFi, you don't have to find a hot spot. Amazon pays for Kindle's wireless connectivity so you will never see a monthly wireless bill for shopping the Kindle Store. There is no wireless setup-you are ready to shop, purchase and read right out of the box.
The Kindle Store
Shop the Kindle Store Right from Your Device
You can shop the Kindle Store wirelessly right from your device, allowing you to click, buy, and start reading your purchases within a minute. The Kindle Store offers the same great Amazon.com customer experience you're used to, including customer reviews, personalized recommendations, and low prices.
Simply search for the title or author you're interested in reading, or browse the store to discover titles and download your reading choices. We auto-deliver your selections wirelessly, so the next time you hear about a great book, just click, buy, and read.
Kindle makes it easy to search across your library.
To use the Search feature, simply type in a word or phrase you're looking for, and Kindle will find every instance across your Kindle library. Looking for an article you read a couple of days ago about hybrid cars but can't remember where? Simply type in hybrid and Kindle will search your library for each reference, making it easy to jump directly to what you're looking for. You can extend your search to the Kindle Store to find related titles you may be interested in. Explore even further by searching Wikipedia.
Built-in Dictionary
Never get caught without a dictionary. Kindle includes The New Oxford American Dictionary with over 250,000 entries and definitions, so you can seamlessly look up the meanings of words without interrupting your reading. Never fear a sesquipedalian word again-simply look it up as you go.
Carry Your Library in 10.3 Ounces
Carry Your Library in 10.3 Ounces

At 10.3 ounces, Kindle is lighter and thinner than typical paperbacks, and fits easily in one hand. Its built-in memory stores hundreds of titles. An optional SD memory card lets you hold even more. From Melville to Morrison, your favorite authors can always be with you.
This bag is larger than I'd expected. It's about the size (and shape) of a case for a full-size pair of binoculars.
Also, what you don't see in the picture - under the flap - are 3 outside compartments. One has a snap, one appears to be intended to put a cell phone into (clipping the cell's clip on the outside), and the other is a horizontal zipper pocket that is the width of the other two, and below them.
Inside, there is a small partitioned area that fits the Kindle perfectly - when it is not in its cover. I was disappointed in this because I am used to using the Kindle with the cover. The other side of the partition is the roomy main compartment. There is also a small pocket that runs down one side (inside) that appears to be intended for holding pens.
The bag does appear to be more versatile than its picture suggests, but if I put my Kindle in the pocket that is evidently meant for it, what do I do with the cover?
If you use your Kindle without a cover, and you want something to tote it safely in, along with the charger and USB cable, then this gives you plenty of room for that, as well as a cell and other items.
