Did Atlantis Really Exist? Or is it merely a legend?

The fascination of the Lost City Of Atlantis has baffled scholars for many years. Swallowed up into the ocean by a huge Tsunami, the whereabouts of Atlantis are of ongoing investigation and until such time that the true existence of Atlantis is proven, the legend of Atlantis will live on in the imagination forever -

~ The Lost City Of Atlantis ~

The legend of Atlantis is truly fascinating and one wonders if it ever existed at all, or was it just an imaginative story passed down through the ages. What was Pluto trying to say? Did he get his measurements wrong when describing the size of the island? and is this why it has not been believed for all these years? Is all the disbelief really just a case of bad mathematics? We all know the power of a Tsunami and the absolute and utter devastation that it can cause. Was it simply a case of a small island being engulfed by a huge tidal wave that has created the almost magical myth of the 'Lost City Of Atlantis'.

In the middle of the Atlantic Ocean, thousands of
years ago, stood a powerful and prosperous mountainous island nation named Atlantis; Poseidon, the god of the sea, was enticed by a native woman Cleito, an earthly beauty and they fell in love. To protect his loved one the mighty Poseidon build a beautiful clifftop home for them on the top of a mountain near the centre of the island and he carved it into an image of a palace and formed rings of water and stadia about the bottom of the dwelling to keep his wife safe and out of harms way. Tunnels were dug deep into the sea and special bricked passage docking stations were built for the ships to come in to, further protecting the city of Atlantis. A golden image of Poseidon was erected and here Poseidon held court and all major decisions and strategies were enforced without him leaving his mountain palace. -

According to Greek Mythology, Cleito gave Poseidon five sets of twin boys and in time the eldest boy Atlas was made King of the island, while the younger ones were assigned different parts of the Island and colonies of men to watch over. Atlantis was a rich and resourceful island gaining much from trade and commerce and the inhabitants were pretty self sufficient. The island was rich in fruits, nuts and herbs, and the island also had a large animal secter. What they had there was a hugely desirable utopian society which was heavily protected from contact of invasion.-

All was well in the Kingdom of Atlantis till the fateful day when a monumental earthquake and tsunami occurred, swallowing up the entire city up and taking it deep into the ocean...Much debate goes on today, as to the authenticity of the legend of Atlantis. When the Hellenic Gods of old split up the islands to share them amongst Atlantis and the other Gods, one wonders where would such a large piece of land disappear to and there has been much speculation as to where exactly this Island could have existed and where indeed it sunk. Some believe it may be the sunken Island of Spartel near the Strait of Gibralter, or even at the point of the Bermuda Triangle. The debate goes on. The legend of Atlantis is truly a fascinating one and much romanticism and folk law has sprung up over the centuries and surrounded this tale of the 'Lost City of Atlantis'.-

Legend has it that Zeus the god of war had seen the decline of the Atlantian race when greed and power corrupted them after many years of living simply and with dignity and he took the advice of the other Gods on what should be done to teach them a lesson. The method suggested was the wrath of the Gods and the action was swift and cruel and non reversible and legend has it that this was the reason that the City of Atlantis was lost to the sea forever.-

Terrific lens ! Very insightful, and awesome graphics here ! I am in agreement with Edgar Cayce who predicted the discovery which actually happened eventually in the 1960's by a US Navy pilot. The rock path formation seen at the ocean floor near Bimini Island on a clear day from above, is perhaps the definitive proof we have always been looking for. Apparently not a natural structural formation at all as sceptics surprisingly still argue. Definately man-made, and definately ancient, and right at the spot that Cayce saw in his legendary sleeping prophecy. All of this up for debate of course. Not everyone will agree I'm sure; but our different opinions, and arguments with eachother do make the world go-round .... This is a most interesting topic to debate, and ponder.

It is clear that Plato did not make up Atlantis since he states that the story is "fact, not fiction" and "certainly true." The solution is simple enough: Atlantis was a supervolcanic island off the coast of Portugal that exploded and sank in the 17th century BC. Plato's dating is obviously off, simply because the Egyptian priests (his source) habitually exaggerated historical time (see Roots of Cataclysm, Algora Publ. Ny 2009).

Thanks for the lens. I enjoy reading about the legends of ancient advanced civilizations and there is, to me, compelling evidence that some of these stories are based on truth. Atlantis is one of my favorites.

I really think Atlantis existed. The intriguing questions for me are: Where was it? When was it? What level of technology did the Atlanteans possess?

I am an Indian history student ,my thought is that ancient people have lot of spiritual powers and they use them in different way they like .my view is that today how we are use the Atomic power for the peace and distruction, there are also some storys realed mythic and some powers not yet know to some people till today.so today world need only scientific explaination to prove, but there are still unproven mistries in the world to be proven .this what i have learened in my experience of 45years.Still there lot to known in this world not only
