MagicJack - Compared With Skype and other Voip Products

MagicJack is taking the world of Voip by storm just like Skype did a few years back.

Is MagicJack as good as they claim? Or perhaps even better? Will it slash your phone bill and revolutionize your life?

Revolutionizing your life is a bit much to ask for a $40 product! But you might really like it - or you might not like MagicJack. You'll simply have to see!

But here's what one satisfied MagicJack customer did have to say: "I use MagicJack for my home business line, and it works great. Sound quality is as good - or maybe better - than my home landline."

In fact he got a bit miffed when it was suggested that, like Skype, MagicJack users could suffer some communication outages as with Skype.

There have been a variety of opinions about The MagicJack, so we'll just have to let YOU decide!

So let's move on...

So what's the deal on MagicJack?

OK, here is how the MagicJack process is supposed to work.

0. You get your MagicJack and register it online.
1. You just plug it in to your existing analog phone.
2. You plug Magic Jack into your computer connected to the Internet (at high speed of course!)
3. You dial like a regular phone
4. You talk.
5. You pay @$40 to get started and then about $20 per year.
6. You save money.

Comparing Magic Jack and Skype

OK, so how do MagicJack and Skype compare?

Both help you save money on your phone bill.

Both cost you some money to call real telephone numbers. (Skype is only free computer to computer).

Both are Voice over the Internet Protocol services.
Both require at least residential internet service from a broadband internet provider.

Both are portable and can be used wherever you lug your laptop.

MagicJack though...

1. Isn't a software download
2. Allows 911 calls
3. Doesn't require internet savvy like Skype might
4. Doesn't require a new phone, headset, or microphone

And MagicJack is great for those who fear the computer will blow up if they touch it!

I'm on a trial of MagicJack now. My DSL is only up to 660. It does not like my wireless, having to plug into the router directly. Also some have to disable their windows firewall. The sound quality is very low. It's a hit or miss if you get a good connection. One of the things I don't like is the MagicJack Soft Phone, you can be doing something, so the only solution was to put it on it's own pc.

The cost is 39.99 plus shipping, so it's 46.00 for the first year. The review's say it's not bad a deal. What they don't say is you need a speedy Internet. I've read complaints where it took a lot of works to resolve issues with sound cards and cd writting software.

I thought it would be a cheap solution for business calls, however it's not working for me.

Nah, I'm not convinced yet. It is interesting. But calling Magic Jack a "Vonage Killer" is like calling a pea shooter an AK-47 killer!

I understand. The main thing is to get experience with Voip... it will be around a long time.

I saw the ads and am pretty interested, but I guess I'm just too cheap. I am still really learning how to use Skype!

After doing some research, and hearing a couple of my friends swear by the gadget, it seems that Magic Jack really does deliver what it promises -- even if the marketing is classic infomercial gimmickry. For $39.95, you get the Magic ...

He sent me a cordless home phone and magicJack. The phone connects to the magicJack which you plug into a USB port on the computer and you make calls through your DSL line. It also stores your contacts on a program on your computer. ... A lot of those issuing complaints call it a scam. So far I haven't run into any problems but we'll see how it goes. I had heard of Skype before he sent me this but hadn't looked into it. I guess it's kind of similar only without video. ...
