My Introduction to the Oasis Bird Sanctuary

Scarlet (of Scarlet's Feathers) has been a fan of The Oasis for about 15 years.

We met Sybil on a trip for our 5th wedding anniversary to San Diego California. Sybil is a native of The Bronx (NYC NY). Maybe that is why we clicked.

Over the years, Scarlet has helped by typesetting their newsletter. Now, she wants to help by introducing all of you to this valuable and heartwarming charities.

Visit The Oasis to see all the wonderful things this organization does for companion parrots and other animals residing at the sanctuary.

The Oasis Sanctuary is proud to be accredited by both American Sanctuary Association (ASA) and The Association of Sanctuaries (TAOS).

The Oasis Sanctuary Foundation Ltd. Is a 501his(3) tax exempt corporation, EIN #86-0885646. The Oasis is registered with the Arizona Secretary of State as a Charity. All monetary and in-kind contributions are tax deductible to the full extent of the law.

Who Are They?

The Oasis Sanctuary is a life-care facility for captive Exotic birds. In particular they are a refuge for parrots, cockatoos, macaws and other Psittacine birds; although we do accept Passerines (finches and canaries) columbiformes (doves and "fancy" or racing pigeons) and other captive avian species. As a true sanctuary, they do not offer birds for adoption. However, they work with and refer birds requiring re-homing to bona fide adoption programs around the country.

The Oasis is located approximately 50 miles east of Tucson, Arizona in the San Pedro River Valley, not far from Benson, Arizona. Their remote location affords a peaceful home for our over 400 residents, and minimizes conflict with their human neighbors.

Remember the Wild Parrots of Telegraph Hill? Remember the amazing place where two of the parrots were brought, when Mark Bittner had to move? That was Oasis!

Credentials

The Oasis Sanctuary is a Rescue and Retirement facility for exotic birds, predominantly CITES I and II endangered birds. We offer birds a stable and loving home for the duration of their natural lives. We do not sell or breed birds. Nor do we offer birds for adoption.

The Oasis Sanctuary is proud to be the first exotic bird sanctuary to receive dual accreditation from the American Sanctuary Association (ASA) and The Association of Sanctuaries (TAOS).

The Oasis Sanctuary was incorporated in the State of Arizona on May 22, 1997. We are a 501(c)(3) charitable organization. Our Federal EIN number is 86-0885646. We are also registered with the Secretary of State in Arizona as a recognized charity.

Objectives

  • To provide permanent Sanctuary to any Psittacines (parrot-type birds) who have no fatal, contagious disease but are otherwise unplaceable in homes;
  • To develop and build naturalistic habitats (free-flights) for the birds in residence at The Oasis Sanctuary.
  • To continue working with bona fide avian and animal welfare organizations in an effort to ensure that every parrot in captivity has a safe and loving home and that the remaining wild population is protected from commercial exploitation;
  • To educate the public about Psittacines, their proper care in captivity and their place in the wild

How Can You Help The Oasis?

The Oasis Sanctuary is funded solely through Donations. Although their greatest need is for General Operating Funds, you may specify that your contribution be used exclusively for their Aviary Fund to help with the construction of outdoor free-flights and needed buildings for the care and housing of the birds, or you may specify that your money be used for Veterinary Care.

Memberships help support the daily care of the birds: food, housing and veterinary care.

Annual Sponsorship of an Oasis bird gives your donation a more personal touch. You will receive a photo of a wonderful and special bird, its story, as well as periodic updates and new photos. Pictures of the sponsored birds along with the names of their sponsors are on our website.

Visitors Welcome By Appointment Only.
There is a suggested minimum donation of $10 per person.
Call Sybil at 520-212-4737 to get on our Calendar.

As a token of thier appreciation for your support, all donors of cash, goods and/or services, as well as all members, are listed on their website (unless they request otherwise).
