The word poetry evokes many things to every individual. It is much more than the stereotypical rhymed greeting card.

For those who love it, it is food for the writer's soul. It is an expression of self. For those who are not fans of this written art form, maybe seeing different poet's writing styles and subjects may give you a different view of poetry.

Poetry is a written expression of human feeling and thoughts put into a variety of forms. These range from strict formatting that follows any number of chosen styles to free verse and open writing. It is both complex and simple. Poetry is the music of the written word. (It is also what makes up the lyrics in popular music.)

Anything in life can inspire a poem, from nature to love, politics to family and everything in between.

Like any art form, poetry is constantly growing and changing. Although there are rules for each style, if there is not one to fit your needs, then you are free to create a new one that does.

Here in this lense I hope to bring many poems and styles to share with you. They will be written by many different poets and authors. I hope you enjoy their work.

Poetry can poke fun at the absurd and make us laugh at the humourous people and events around us. It doesn't all have to be serious.

Poetry for Children

Poetry isn't just for adults. Most of us were exposed to poetry at a very young age, even if no one ever specifically said that that was poetry. Think about all the story books we were read growing up that came in poetic form, some rhymed, some not. Poetry is a great way to express feelings and any subject to children, or for them to express what they feel themselves.
