The Poole Electrician - Garden Safety
Garden Safety
In the summer thoughts turn to work in our gardens. Electricity kills in the garden - there around 30 electrical related deaths each year in the UK and nearly 3,000 injuries.
1. Always use a Residual Current Device (RCD) also known as a circuit breaker. Often orange, it plugs into your socket - if you happen to cut the cable it cuts the power and stops you getting an electricity shock. Costs just a few pounds but it could save your life!
2. Check your tools, all plugs and cables for any damage before you use them. Never ever touch damaged equipment, plugs or cables without turning off the power.
3. Always use good quality equipment wihich has either a "Kitemark" or a BEAB approved sticker. Always follow any manufacturer's instructions.
4. Whatever you do never adjust, clean or check equipment with the power still on. Disconnect appliances and tools before working on them.
5. Never use electrical equipment outside when it's raining or wet.
6. Be flex aware - know where it is - cut away from it. Have plenty to move freely.
Don't become an accident statistic - always take precautions while using electricity in the garden. Stay safe and sound until next time!
