- I have just struggled to read the shack given to me by a respected christian. I find the book and its contents very disturbing and will never recommend it to anybody .this book is very misleading to young christians..to me God has no skin colour and He is Masculine. calling God papa or daddy for me is simply irreverance .much as he is loving and forgiving, He is a GOd of justice and will punish sin and the unrepentant sinner

- I am 3/4 of the way through The Shack, and I love it!! I am 16 years old, and I'm crying my way through it!!! I believe that God will do whatever it takes to bring us into relationship with Him! Relationship is of tons more importance than laws! If you love God with all your heart, mind, soul, and strength you will yearn to follow God more!! I personally love the idea that the Trinity is made out of relationship, and not a chain of command!! :) It also warmed my heart to read the many, many pages that portrayed God, Jesus, and The Holy Spirit as beings who love all of creation!! This book made me more excited than ever for the day that enter Heaven and get to meet them face-to-face!!!!! :) :) :) :) :) :)

- WHO ARE YOU, that you think you can judge others? You don't give your name! So should we address you as nameless? This man can write God in any form he choses because he is openly write a book of fiction. A story! But you, who are without name and condemning a fiction writer can say anything you chose. This is not right. Only God can judge and He choses not to, He gives us all free will

- I was given the book by a friend who was enthusiastic about it and asked me to read it. When I gave it back to her, I told her the overall theme of God's love for man is true, but that it was book filled with dangerous teachings. I told her where ever the author got his ideas of God, he didn't get them from the Bible. I told her it was a blasphemous book.
I wanted to comment on the shackbook.com forum. But, they do not want any criticism at all, even if there is Bible book, chapter and verse to back it up.

- If you really pay attention to the authors description of God etc. and the explanation given you may see that the three heads where seen through his eyes as he needed them to be seen. I think it's incredible how the human emotion has such a profound effect on all things. Why not let those who want to believe, believe it gives our world hope for something more then what we know. If it is false then the author will be judged. Don't forget also what it says in the bible as well. Yea who have not sinned can cast the first stone and I'm sorry but, if you are to judge and pointing a finger you are know better then the one being untrue! I found the book very moving and when I read it the message to me was important for my life circumstance at the time no more no less...

- Your misrepresenting scripture and prooftexting to say the least. You know just enough to be dangerouse....Aside from that, even if the shack is on shake ground in a few areas, it is far slocer to the heart of God than 50% of the "hell fire and brimstone" preaching I have heard in churches over the past 30 years

- I just finished tAking a World Religion class and found out many many religions have the same stories attached to them. God asking for the sacrifice of a son, healing the sick, the burning bush, and more. Greek mythology is full of the same similar stories. This man just seems to have grasped his connection with God. The book is after all FICTION (not yelling just emphasizing). I think it is a good book to help you find God. Look into your relationships with God. Why be a radical fundamentalist and boo hoo anything that helps people start or renew their journey. Everyone is as a different place on their journey. Apparently, you are further and are judging us all. Shame on you!

- Thank you for your candid opinion. I have just finished The Shack and have been feeling a bit uneasy. Not sure why. Having read your criticism, I understand a bit better why my gut feeling was not at all the raves I have heard from so many. Thank you for your clarity and for helping me by putting into words why I felt so uneasy. You have backed up your opinion with scripture, scripture I already knew but just hadn't connected with what I was reading.

- I am personally fond of The Shack Book, I believe that God,Jesus and Holly Spirit will meet you
were you need to be found and if it means that They must "bend the rules" as we as humans are making them, God will definitely do that for you. They (Father,Son & Holy Spirit) are especially fond of each and every creation.

- Mr Young's intentions, I believe, were good to write a book to portray God's involvement in a situation that is so familiar to us all. Instead of bringing the Truth to the people at the same time, he gave through the teachings of what he has been taught. Unfortunately, many teachings are not in line with the Word of God and we all have to be very careful to accept the ?non-truth' or ?lie' as the ?Truth'. Unfortunately has this book been distributed to so many already and a lot of people have been mislead.
The ?non-truth' or ?lies' portrayed in The Shack are the following:-
1. Although many churches follow and teach the Trinity ?truth', it is non- Scriptural. Although we can accept the existence of all three, the concept of three being one is incorrect and They all do not know what the other One knows or thinks. The Holy Spirit on this earth is also Jesus Christ in spirit form and not a separate God.
2. Missy being a visible spirit which could not be touched is also a teaching which is non-Scriptural. When a person dies, his breath also meaning soul, spirit and life, leaves the body and becomes a dead soul until Jesus comes again to resurrect the dead. Visible spirits are either Satan or God's angels and not spirits of dead relatives. The teaching from this book is Spiritism which is a non-God teaching.
3. It is said in this book that the law, specifically referring to God's Ten Commandments, which teaches us what sin is, is not to be held anymore. This is the biggest lie in this book. Jesus Himself said that if you love God, you will uphold the law, the Ten Commandments.
At the end of the day there are only two paths that anyone could follow which is either the path to God or the path to Satan. The choice is yours but I pray that you choose God's path.

- First of all, the book is fiction. It was written by a man trying to put his struggle of finding and accepting the unconditional love of God into human words. I read the book and am currently re-reading the book to see where it conflicts with the message of Jesus Christ in the Bible. I am more than half-way and have yet to find a conflict. Jesus never claimed to be God. He claimed to be the Messiah, the Son of God. He also always gave the glory of God for every "miracle" he "performed".
As to comparing The Shack with the Hindi goddess Kali (goddess of war and death --didn't see any of that depicted in The Shack) and other non-Christian religious, the story of Jesus isn't that far from Greek and Roman mythology. God causes a woman (Mary) to conceive his child. Child has more than human capabilities. Child must complete incredible task in order to please the gods. This pattern is repeated time and time again in western mythology.
All theology is a product of human thought so there is no "perfect theology". Faith and belief in God or Jesus Christ is a matter of choice. I so choose to believe that Jesus lived, died, rose and reigns with God. This book is one of the best explanations of the Trinity that I have come across. I fail to see where a story that depicts a man struggling with God to find something good come out of a great tragedy is bad theology. I fail to see that a story that depicts a man must forgive his earthly father before he can have a whole relationship with his Heavenly Father is bad theology. I fail to see that a story that gives the message that a human must accept that he/she is loved unconditionally before they can begin to have a great relationship with God as bad theology. I fail to see that a story which gives the message that we are never separated from God because of Jesus Christ and that we are never alone is bad theology.
The idea that God punishes sin is bad theology and there is nothing in the Biblical account of Jesus Christ that depicts that! The whole point of Jesus Christ was to bring people back to the God of love before the Fall in Eden and from the Old Testament view of a vengeful God. Sin is separation from God by our own choice and that separation brings its own pain and destruction --- God doesn't cause pain or destruction. People cause pain and destruction because we turn from God's love. Jesus Christ endured pain, humiliation, and death so that we could leave the Vengeful God of the Old Testament behind us and return to the God of love that created this beautiful world and the people in it.
It really makes me angry when people use one or two scriptures (taken out of context of the incident in which they occur) to judge, humiliate, and separate people! That is bad theology! Jesus showed great anger toward the religious leaders of His time because they were using the law to oppress people. Jesus reminded them that there were 2 laws that were the foundation of laws: Love God with all your heart, might, mind and strength. Love your neighbor as yourself. The message in The Shack exemplifies these laws.
I did not have any confusion with the book. People must be brining their own confusion to the book. It sounds that the complaints about this book is that it doesn't fit someones idea of what God should be like. I feel sorry for people who can only worship of God who fits in a nice neat little box (of human thinking). The God I worship can be all things to all people when the need arises. The scriptures tell us that "with God all things are possible." Sorry your God is so limited that you are afraid of one man's idea that we were created to be loved and when we live like we are not loved, we are not living as God created us to be. Sounds alot like the message Jesus Christ taught for the 3 years of His earthly existence.
The scriptures are a guide, they are not to worshipped. My recommendation .... have a relationship with God through the love shown by Jesus Christ instead of having a relationship with a book ---- any book!

- Pamela, I don't mean to offend you, but lay the book, "The Shack", aside for a while and look to the Bible to The Second Epistle of Peter. Now go to Mathew 17. Christ Jesus is God made flesh, Acts 2:36. As for your statement that, "The scriptures are a guide, they are not to (be) worshipped." Go to Second Timothy, 3:10-17.

- I've got to say, that most folks are not very creative in their defense of this fairy tale heresy. There are two objections that come back 95% of the time. Neither of them is based in the truth of Scripture, but rather rely on an emotional, historical, or literary defense.
The primary objection is, "It's just fiction" . The second is " It really affected me, so it must be good and true".
The Bible warns true Christians to "refuse profane and old wives' fables". Both of which in today's language are "just fiction". That applies even if it "touches you" or provides a "religious experience". Christians, it's time to grow up and get to know the Bible, so you can walk in truth, instead of some crackpot vision of God the Father as a woman.

- I just want to remind people that this book is "fiction" and if it opens " you " up to God..the Father,Son and the Holy Spirit..the book did it's "job"....it's a reminder that God is with us no matter what..and if He talks to us through a "woman"..so be it...God Bless you all.

- Thank you for all your comments! I was very disturbed by the book and wanted to find out
the truth. I believe The Bible is the best place to find all our answers whether it be about the trinity or how much Jesus loves us. The bottom line is the Bible will never lie to us. I firmly believe in Him(Jesus) and his father (God) and the Holy Spirit.

- I have read comments about "The Shack" and had to read this for myself. Besides the first 2 chapters, I was bored to tears! I couldn't connect to ths Author or his inablitity to be humble before His Lord and Savior, and most of all, God. I am surprised at how many people liked this book and how it seemed to have a powerful effect on them.
But again, I was soooo bored and put it down.

- One thing I know is something my dad has always said, where confusion abounds the enemy is present. So much confusion and controversy surrounds this one book that I believe the enemy is closely attached to it. There is no confusion surrounding God, He is what He says He is, His word is His word. I read halfway through the shack but never finished it. It gripped me emotionally and at the time I believed it was God speaking to me. One thing always bothered me, though, the fact that the author portrayed God as a woman. Never in the bible do you see God referred to as a woman or relating to any sort of femininity. So that is a big red flag to me. The fact that the author went to seminary is not impressive to me. Anyone can go to seminary and be a pastor, but not anyone is CALLED to do so by God. The fact that the author is not a member of any church and does not attend church is also a red flag since it is the bride(church) who Christ is returning for.....think about this people.

- I too, started reading this book, but half way threw I started to question the Trinity. So I got on the web site and found out that The Shack is only a false doctrine. I put down the book and didn't finish it. I found myself questionning why they were talking of the father of him being a women? I thank the Lord that I am saved and this was a lesson not to read everything that a person gives you. We have to be very careful these days, stay in prayer and if we have any questions about Our Lord just go directly to the bible.

- I was so glad to find this site. I was troubled beyond belief by this book, from the moment they called God "Papa", before they made him a she. I forced myself to complete the book because my sister gave it to me after telling me how wonderful it was. I needed to read it to its completion so that I could be informed about it to tell my sister and any others why this book is sooooo dangerous! I love Christ and want to try to live as he would want, not drag him down to my level!

- Anyone who has lost a child should not read this book. I had to stop a few times and force myself to finish, if only to find out what readers were talking about. It read like a hippie who is still in the fifties. I thought of passing it on, but decided to toss in the trash. I gave a more in depth review to my on line book club.

- The shack book is dangerous in its simplistic stupidity. Why, oh why, don't people seek to read the truth of scripture? THE answers are all there for the reading. I confess that I too got sucked into this book for a while - then The Truth, The Life, The Way dawned and I returned to HIM.

- Page #182:
Paragraph 4, 'Jesus' continues to explain how Buddhists, Mormons, Baptists, Muslims, political figures, murderers...all whom love Him come from every system. He says that he has NO DESIRE TO MAKE THEM CHRISTAIN, BUT I DO WANT TO JOIN THEM IN THEIR TRANSFORMATION INTO SONS AND DAUGHTERS OF MY PAPA, INTO MY BROTHERS AND SISTERS, INTO MY BELOVED.
Mack asks, "Does that mean that all roads will lead to you?"
"Not at all...most roads don't lead anywhere."
This is false doctrine, implying that aside from whatever path you decide to gamble in wandering over, even inside a Buddhist temple, that if you've mischosen your selection, and Jesus doesn't grab a hold of you, that there is no reality of hell.
And Jesus, as part of the Trinity is my brother? That we'll all be brothers and sisters?

- Excellent work and edifying links. It is a sad commentary on contemporary Christianity that so few recognize the heresies contained in "The Shack." It is time for those who profess to be followers of Jesus to remember that He said, "I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me." (John 14:6).
Jesus is not the "best" way, He is the only way!
