The Library: The Locals' Favorite Hang Out Spot

Hidden from plain sight, the library is popular among the San Diego locals and the ones who are in the know.

Deceiving on the outside, it looks small and uninviting but all the fun on the inside - Video game arcades, fooseball table, five pool tables, darts, and a bitchin' jukebox makes this lounge a local's favorite.

What's In The Library?

The crowd is made up of everyone - ages 21 to 99 - college students, military, local Allied Gardens residents. Many are shooting pool, many hang out at the bar, the fooseball table is usually open, the video game arcade is also usually open, sometimes the bartender will let you play wii on a big screen TV, and many just hang out with friends at a table.

The Library is also a cool spot to go if you're a sports fan. This place is completely decorated with sports memorabilia and banners. Any sports fan would love and appreciate the Library - it is like being a hungry, fat kid in a candy store. There are TVs everywhere to make sure you can see the game from every corner and every nook and cranny. Even one of the bathrooms has a TV. You can watch the game and never miss a thing while you squat down to do your business. Now that, my friends, is a good sports bar.

On the weekdays, you can find regulars just trying to unwind after a long day. The weekends have more of the mixed crowd - college students, military, AG residents, Harley riders, and everyone else. The Library has a great staff - bartenders are witty, friendly, and fun. The door guy can usually spot a regular - which I appreciate. I like people who remember me especially if I've been there 20 million times already. The atmosphere is relaxed and is rarely filled with testosterone which makes it easy for everyone to be friends. The jukebox can play anything you want. If it's not there, they can download the song for you! The Library rarely ever gets too crowded, not even on the weekends.

The Library offers a full bar and a great selection of beer - from the MGDs to Guiness. I also love how the bartenders make the drinks here. They put extra love and you can taste the difference whether it's an extra cherry or an extra shot of something. That's if you're nice - maybe they just do it for me. Which I guess they should because I wrote this all up.

After the Library closes, we usually hit the Jack in the Box in the same parking lot. That's if JIB is still open.

Reader Feedback

I am in no way associated with anyone from The Library. I don't know the bartenders' names and I definitely don't know the door guy's name. But I know them by face and I'm sure they've seen me and my friends more than enough to recognize us.

Anything this page is missing, please let me know. I appreciate it =)

It's cool that you made a lens about this place. I've never been there, but I go past it while riding my bike sometimes.
