You know how you are at this point in your life but there is a gap between where you are and where you want to be? Sometimes the presence of this gap is so strong in your life it can almost feel like a physical gap. You've gathered all this information, knowledge, skills and tools to get you over the gap. You are determined to get to the other side with what you've gathered but somehow you run out of steam. You've got all sorts of reasons and explanations of why you haven't got to the other side. But it still doesn't change this fact: Your momentum has died and you're still not where you want to be. Well I like to walk right into that gap. I like to stir up the contents of that gap and create a revolution in your thinking. This revolution can only result in one thing: an inspirational moment. It can take can come in any manner: from explosive to a slow simmering burn. Either way, that gap will be gone and you will be exactly where you want to be.

Provocative Links to Think

These got me Thinking ....Hmm

A list of links in the order that got my mind thinking...
What would happen if...?
Motivation Point
My next step in the search.
I thought: "Sure, sure, these people were all motivated to get into the Flow of things. But what came BEFORE THAT!!!"
So I moved to more links on Motivation and...
Dr. Jeffrey Schwartz
.... found this man doing research on "changing your mind"
Not just thinking something else but actually, truly and REALLY changing the physical qualities of the mind to affect behavioural change.
This blew me away.
I knew I was on the right path and found this strange connection between the good Doctor and...
Workplace Coaching
...found David Rock.
Now I WAS ROCKING! And if there wasn't a revolution going on inside my head before there was NOW.
This man had travelled the same path I did. He has written books on goal setting and hooked up with the research Dr. Schwartz was doing.
He made the same connection that I did.
AHA! We can use what the doctor found and mold it into an idea for Professional Coaching.
Which led to David Rocks book: Quiet Leadership

Books in my Thought Library

The people who started the Revolution

These are the books I bought after doing my surfing. Once I read a bit of the internet I knew I had to read more.
  • Flow: The Psychology of Optimal Experience
    by Mihaly Csikszentmihalyi

This book explains how he mapped flow.
These people were already "inspired" to do what they did.
BUT they found out how to maintain the joyous feeling of "flow" once they got started.
Now I was definitely interested in that.
  • Finding Flow: The Psychology of Engagement with Everyday Life (Masterminds Series)
    by Mihaly Csikszentmihalyi

I don't own this book but I borrowed it from the local library. He talks about how to apply what he learned on a practical, daily level.

But it still didn't answer my question of, "But what came before that? What got it all started in the first place????"
  • The Mind & The Brain
    by Dr. Jeffrey Schwartz

I left the last half of the title off because I didn't want to scare you. If you DO get your hands on a copy you will see why.
This goes over, in very simple layman terms, how the whole process works with OCD patients in his practice.
He starts off explaining how stroke victims started him thinking. How did they manage to function after losing a physical portion of their brain. Not perfectly but functioning in a life.
Very cool stuff to read. Every other page, I kept saying out loud, "Wow! That is too cool!"
  • Quiet Leadership
    by David Rock
Last by not least the man who took the research and put it all together for me.
This book is totally amazing. He takes you from understanding how the brain looks and works from a child up to an adult.
Then explains how an "inspiration" works.
Then details steps how to get there and spends the last chapter talking about practical applications.
After reading this you will never think about thinking in the same way.
It will Revolutionize the way you think, the way you lead others and the way you deal with others in your life.
  • The Mind Map Book
    by Tony Buzan
Okay this is last for sure. This book gives you an added tool which is supported by all the latest neurological research

New News about Thinking

A list of new media via the internet, teleconference or conventional news

This list will give you up-to-date information regarding any new info on whats happening around this lens content

Other Links along the Way

Other links I checked out in my search for the Beginning Thought

These are just a list of other links I ran into along the way. They didn't grab me as much as the others but they kept me thinking and moving forward.
Brain Matters
A more technical link of how the brain is activated when it starts thinking.
Pictures and everything.
Executive Functioning
In my quest to see how I could use this with my handicapped son from a motivational aspect.
I ran into this glitch that maybe his brain doesn't process like "other" people and the whole idea of "inspiring him" make have to be re-thought. Sigh
First Steps
Dr. Schwart's is involved in this organization. It is designed to help people with behavioural and psychological problems.
This is an article focussing on his work.
It also mentions one of the books he wrote.
"Brainlock: Free Yourself From Obsessive-Compulsive Behavior"
The Nazarene Way-The Art of Meditation
Part of this process deals with Mindful Awareness and is therefore linked with meditation. But only specific types of meditation: Vispanna
Zader
Another link on how to meditate
Pat Savola
The meditation links led me to a link of a local practioner of Vispanna Meditation.
I eventually took a 7 week course from her.
TOTALLY AWESOME!
Hope 4 OCD
This meditation technique led me back to the thought-inspiration-action connection but from a psychological perspective
Mindfulness Awareness Research Center at UCLA
So I came full circle back to the practical applications for this whole process: mindful awareness to insight/inspiration to changing behaviour.
This is an incredible group of work these people do.

What do you THink?

Comments on Blog and Other modules welcomed
