The Number 3

Due to a Very Important Event that must for now remain nameless, I was looking for some luck. The evening before The Event was tumultuous, exciting, and being a rather superstitious sort, I started to psyche myself up for things.

Why, Third Time's a Charm (Third Time's Lucky), and since Bad Luck Comes in Threes, this was going to be a Positive Event! Since we had three times before attempted wished for such an Event, and it hadn't worked out, this would be our lucky one. And since there had been two previous Very Nearly Events, this third one would be The One!

The next morning, I was picking up ponytail holders. One, two...and there's a third. and there just happened to be three quarters on my vanity. Both sets of three went into my pocket. Later that morning after making a purchase (three items) at the gas station down the street from my office, I received $2 and 53¢ in change. Of course, the two dollars and two quarters immediately went into my not lucky left pocket, while my third set of three things (pennies) were promptly deposited into my lucky right pocket. (Nothing against Lefties, or people for whom left is lucky - it just isn't for me.)

3 elastic bands. 3 quarters. 3 pennies. 3 sets.

All through the morning, Three's assaulted me. An exact dispersement of 3 orange M&M's from a coworkers candy machine - I kid you not. Three new tasks set on my desk. They were EVERYWHERE!

And then, I heard. The Very Important Event was approved. It worked!

Three now, of course, deserves the honor as my very favorite, lucky number.
