Katherine Mathilda Swinton was born in London on November 5, 1960. She is the daughter of an Australian mother and a Scottish father Judith Balfour Sir John Swinton of Kimmerghame. She goes to West Heath Girls School where she and Diana, the Princess of Wales later. In 1983 graduated from the New Hall of Cambridge University.

Tilda has twins from her relationship with artist John Byrne. Since 2004 she has a relationship with Sandro Kopp, also a painter.

Careers
