Why I'm Writing This Tips On Jumping Higher Lens

This lens is going to give you relevant, quality tips on jumping higher. I'm making this lens because I spent hours and hours looking online for quality information on this topic and came up with mostly garbage. After reading a few quality books (including the Jump Manual, it has a lot of great tips on jumping higher, I highly recommend reading it) on explosive training techniques and applying them to my own training I'm ready to share information so we can all benefit from them! I focus on fundamental training techniques that will get you jumping higher than you ever thought you could!

Tips On Jumping Higher #1

Endurance vs Strength

Let's just define both of these real quick before I get into them:

Endurance weight training is performed to make your muscles last longer during physical activity, while good for sports in general it's almost useless for creating explosive power. Focuses on high rep weight workouts (10-20 reps)

Strength weight training is used to create maximal muscle strength, which will help you to jump higher! Low rep workouts (4-6 reps)

I'm sure you can already see why strength training is far more important for creating explosive power, but let me elaborate a little bit more. Speed and muscle strength create explosion - but no matter how fast you are if you don't have the strength to push off harder you won't be able to jump higher.

Endurance training focuses on higher reps - which in the long run will reduce the quality of the rep. High repetition weight workouts will not help you build explosion, only muscle endurance. If you play basketball you're better off training muscle endurance on the court playing, rather than in the gym with weights.

Focus on low rep, high weight workouts and you'll be jumping higher in no time!

Note: Keep in mind that athletes with extremely good verticals tend to be able to squat 2 times there own weight.

Tips On Jumping Higher #2

Get a Good Coach!

Getting a good coach or fitness trainer will keep you aimed in the right direction and can help provide quality information. A coach/fitness trainer can also let you know what mistakes you're making, this way you don't make them over and over again! The downside is this can be very costly - personal coaching sessions can run you $1-200 dollars an hour for a quality coach.

If you are interested in getting some coaching and you don't want to spend a fortune I would recommend getting the Jump Manual - it comes with a month of one on one coaching free with Jacob Hiller, the creator pf the program. He gives you workouts, helps you when you're stuck and there are videos - lots of information to get you jumping higher.

Tips On Jumping Higher #3

Soft Landings

Do you want to be able to jump almost instantly after landing, reduce impact on your joints and create more even more explosion in your legs? Then you need to pay attention to your landing. Going up isn't the only important thing to focus on when you're improving your vertical jump - learning to land softly will keep you training longer and help keep your ankles, knees and back in tip top shape. Of all the tips on jumping higher this is the one that will take the most mental concentration. Don't skip this one!
