Parties For Preschoolers - How To Keep The Smiles On Their Faces

Are you considering throwing a party for your preschooler?

Are you worried about the stress of having fifteen small children in your care? Do you fear facing a room of tired, over-stimulated, and crying toddlers a full hour before pickup time?

Here's your guide for throwing a party for anyone five or under. It's surprisingly simple and you CAN do it without losing your mind!

MAKE IT SHORT

You don't need to host an all day or all afternoon party for preschoolers. Two hours is fine for a child three or under. Three to four hours is great for children up to five.

Small children will tire easily from the excitement of a party. That leads to crying and fighting. With a short span of time you can have a game, food and free play without too many tantrums to interfere.

MAKE IT SMALL

A good rule of thumb is to invite the number of guests according to your child's age. Two year old's will be quite satisfied with two other party-goers, and do you really think five guests (plus your own) is too few for a five year old? This is especially important if you have other children of your own - you may chose to divvy up the party guests so each child has a friend. It's not about making a splashy show - it's about creating a fun, memorable experience.

HAVE HELP

You'll have more fun yourself if the moms or dads stay around. The younger the child, the more necessary this is. For older children be certain that SOMEONE is helping. You will need to prepare games and serve food as well as handle potty calls and be on hand to supervise. Having extra eyes and hands will go a long way towards keeping it running smoothly.

PLAN ACTIVITIES

The great thing is that this age group will be quite happy to enjoy some amount of free play. If it's summer, try having a sprinkler available. Inside set up tents or tunnels. You will have a difficult time convincing them to even stop for a planned game.

However, party games and activities are what make it special.

Try face painting as your guests arrive. Easy treasure hunts, trying to keep balloons in the air, or even ring-around-the-rosy are sure to please.

Move onto the food and provide finger friendly treats like crackers, cheese, and cut fruit they can dip in yogurt. Allow some free play before winding things down with cake or 'make your own sundaes' just before pick up time.

This will get the kids sitting down and breaking up the play without too much complications as well as saving the sugar rush for when they get home!

Toddlers Games | Musical statues

type=textMusical statues is a children's game played at children' birthday parties in the UK. It is similar to Musical Chairs

Players stand in an area, usually a dance hall and wait for music to start to play (controlled by the game master / judge). When the music starts the players should dance to the music, the more spirited the better.

The game master will then stop the music at a random point. When the music has stopped all players should freeze. The judge then walks among the players and watches to see who is still moving or doesn't stop fast enough, those people are called out of the game. Play continues until there is only one person left (the winner).

If the game starts to get difficult to call people out, the players should be encouraged to get more enthusiastic so that it is more difficult to stop on time.

Sometimes the game master can also call a theme for the statues, so that the players must impersonate something such as an animal or activity.

Fun Party Game - Musical chairs!

Musical chairs is a game played by a group of people (usually children), often in an informal setting purely for entertainment such as a birthday party.

The game starts with any number of players and a number of chairs one fewer than the number of players; the chairs are arranged in a circle (or other closed figure if space is constrained; a double line is sometimes used) facing outward, with the people standing in a circle just outside of that.

A non-playing individual plays recorded music or a musical instrument.

While the music is playing, the players in the circle walk in unison around the chairs.

When the music player suddenly stops the music, everyone must race to sit down in one of the chairs.

The player who is left without a chair is eliminated from the game, and one chair is also removed to ensure that there will always be one fewer chair than there are players.

The music resumes and the cycle repeats until there is only one player left in the game, who is the winner.

Toddlers Games | Pin The Tail On The Donkey

Pin the Tail on the Donkey is a game played by groups of children.

A picture of a donkey with a missing tail is tacked to a wall within easy reach of children.

One at a time, each child is blindfolded and handed a paper "tail" with a push pin or thumbtack poked through it.

The blindfolded child is then spun around until he or she is disoriented.

The child gropes around and tries to pin the tail on the donkey.

The player who pins their tail closest to the target, the donkey's rear, wins.

The game is a group activity, is generally not competitive; "winning" is only of marginal importance.

Pin the Tail on the Donkey is suitable for children who are old enough to walk and to know better than to eat the small sharp tacks.

The game is also used in child development research.

Toddlers Games | Duck Duck Goose

Duck, duck, goose (called Duck, Duck, Gray Duck in Minnesota) is a traditional children's game often first learned in pre-school or kindergarten.

The object of this game is to walk in a circle, tapping on each child's head until you finally choose one to be the new picker.

Basic concept

A group of players sit in a circle, facing inward, while another player, the 'picker' (a.k.a. the 'fox'), walks around tapping or pointing to each player in turn, calling each a 'duck' until finally picking one to be a 'goose' The 'goose' then rises and chases and tries to tag the 'picker', while the 'picker' tries to return to and sit where the 'goose' had been sitting.

If the picker succeeds, the 'goose' is now the new picker and the process begins again.

If the 'goose' succeeds in tagging the picker, the 'goose' may return to sit in the previous spot and the 'picker' resumes the process.

With teenagers such as in high school, the 'goose' may attempt to tackle the 'picker'.

Jumpscotch : A Game To Play With Your Toddler

Younger children find that hopscotch is too difficult to their ability; jumpscotch will be a great favorite to your child while it also helps develop their balance and co-ordination with this easy and fun Jumpscotch or Hopscotch game.

What You Need:
* Chalk to draw on pavement, tiles or concrete
* Stone or beanbag for throwing

What To Do:
Draw a pattern on the concrete, big enough spaces for your children to jump in.

Show your children how to jump from space to space with their feet together until they reach the end of the Jumpscotch. Show them how to turn around at the end and then jump back.

Once you can see that they have got the hang of this, play the game together using a stone or beanbag to throw.

You can change the game by drawing different shapes (ovals, semi-circles, circles, squares, triangles, rectangles etc) and using their names.

You could also draw the rectangles with just 1 foot shape so your children have to jump with their feet apart.

Happy Jumping!

Toddlers Activity

Many people have a hard time finding new and exciting activies for their toddler.

It is important to find new and stimulating activies for your toddler on a regular basis. Activies that will help them learn and grow are a good idea.

Any activity that involves counting for your toddler is a good idea.

One way you can do this is by putting some objects in a brown paper bag. You can use anything from jelly beans to cotton balls.

Grab a handful of the jelly beans out of the bag and count them out loud to your toddler. Be sure to change up the items that you use for the counting, to keep them interested.

Other than counting, it is good to get your toddler accustomed to seeing and identifying shapes and colors. Here is one great way to get your child identifying shapes and colors.

Print out a sheets of paper with outlines of different shapes.

Use different colors for each outline.

Next, cut out the shapes and colors that match up with the outlines you have already made. Now hide the shapes around the house. After that, it is time to give your toddler the sheets with the outlines on it and help them hunt down the shapes and stick them to the outlines with tape.

A timeless classic with toddlers is using water colors. Not only is this good in helping your kid identify colors, but what toddler doesn't enjoy playing with water?

All you need for this activity is cups, food coloring, and some water.

If your child is the messy type, it might be a good idea to take your water colors outside. Also, make sure that the cups you use are clear so your child is able to distinguish the colors.

There are many, many things you can do with your toddler involving Cheerios. If you are not the creative type, you can just hand them the Cheerios and let them eat them. Here are a few better ideas.

Let your child show his or her artistic side by making smiley faces on a peanut butter sandwich.

Drop them into a jar and then allow your toddler to have a chance. This is good to develop coordination. You can draw cars on paper and then let your child use the Cheerios to create wheels. This helps your toddler with analytical and thinking skills.

With spring coming up, it is a great time to make objects for your toddler to fly through the air. Here is an easy method to make wind streamers. Cut out some colored tissue paper into 4 foot long strips.

Take 4-5 of the strips and tape them together. Put the tape around the middle of the strips. Instruct your toddler to hold the streamers in the middle, where the tape is. Have him run around with the streamers flying behind.

Expect a lot of giggling to occur during this activity.

Remember, activities for your toddler that stimulate them mentally are fun, too!

Let's Pretend - Toddlers Games

Children have amazing and wild imaginations.

The next time you hear "I'm bored" or "What can we do", give them a few household items, or let them make their own and watch them expand into endless hours of fun and entertainment.

The following are just a few ideas to get the fun started and be sure to use your imagination too!

Make an Obstacle Course
Obstacle courses can be a lot of fun, spark creativity and also be great exercise for the little ones. These can be set up in and out of doors.

Pillows, chairs, tires and stools are just a couple of things that can be used to be climbed, jumped and skipped over, through, around and under.

Time each child as they scramble their way through and have a race. Best thing about these is that once they've done everything they can think of with the first one, it can be torn down and set up again another way. Have each child take turns in choosing the way it's set back up.

Let's Play Dress Up
Don't give away all those old shoes, shirts, pants, hats, gloves and costume jewelry! Set aside a special drawer or box for these item to play dress up.

Have children act out their favorite play, television show or put on a fashion show. You'd be surprised exactly how cute she really looks in your old high school prom gown. Be sure to take snap shots or keep the video camera rolling!

Kid's CafƩ
Set up old card table and let the children play restaurant. Have children make up or use play money and menus. Children that can't write yet can draw the food items on the menus.

Give them some paper plates, cups, plastic silverware, a little notebook and they're open for business. Take turns being waiter, customer and busboy (or girl ).

Go Camping
This too can be played in or out of doors and the possibilities are endless. If you have a smaller pop-up tent, it can be set up in the living room.

If you're taking this activity outdoors, you can hang an old sheet over a clothesline securing with rocks at the bottom.

Have children draw or cut out windows if you're using an old sheet. (Remember to keep for the next camping trip.)

Set up some lawn chairs around your faux fire and tell stories, sing songs, make smores in the microwave or any other favorite camping activity. Go all the way and sleep there tonight!

Family: How to Spend Quality Time with Your Kids

Are you a mother who is also a career-oriented woman?

If you are, you may have number of different issues tugging at your heart.

In today's society, many mothers are fearful of putting their family first, especially in certain circumstances, in fear of losing their jobs.

With that in mind, there are many mothers who are fearful that their children will grow up resenting them due to the amount of time they spent focused on work.

While being a mother and a career-oriented woman, all at the same time, may seem like an impossible task, it is a task that you can more than perform.

What you need to remember, although difficult as it may be, is that you should be a mom first.

However, that doesn't mean that you should just toss your workload to the side and not care. There are a number of different ways that you can go about being a good parent, while still brining home an income.

One of those ways involves spending quality time with your child or children when you are not working.

One of the best ways for you to go about spending quality time with your child or children is by creating a schedule for yourself.

This schedule can be used to outline any important events that you and your child or children have planned.

Although your schedule does not need to be followed right down to the letter, it is important to have one.

Mothers who create schedules for themselves are more likely to follow through with their plans.

Speaking of your plans, you may be wondering what you should do to spend quality time with your child or children. Of course, it is important to keep your child's age in mind.

A child who is three years old will prefer different activities than one who is nine or ten years old.

Activity For Toddlers - Zoo Trip

Regardless of where you live, you should have a zoo within a reasonable driving distance to your home.

Zoo trips are fun and exciting, as they often last all day. What is nice about zoo trips is that they are fun and educational all at the same time.

This means that your quality time can benefit your child or children in more ways than one.

Another activity that you may want to think about doing is taking your child or children to the movies. Whether your child is three years old or fifteen years old, there should be a movie playing that would likely interest them.

Going to the movies is nice, as many children view it as a treat. For more affordable movie tickets, you may want to think about going to see a movie with your family during the daytime.

Additional activities that many children enjoy are those of park visits, museum visits, and sporting events. In all honestly, it really doesn't matter what you do.

To your child or children, how matter what their age, they will likely just appreciate the fact that you took some time away from work to have fun with them, no matter what the activity.

Simple Toddlers Activities:

Coloring:

If your child can hold a crayon then they will usually love mom or dad to get down on the floor with a coloring book and join them.

Not only do they not care about your skill, but they will love to turn pages on you just when you get going!

Coloring can actually be quite relaxing even for adults, along with another easy to participate game...

Puzzles:

Large, 25 piece puzzles will thrill anyone over one. Perhaps they are not at all able to work the pieces themselves but they will happily slap a piece into position when you set it in place.

Puzzles can also be somewhat relaxing as they engage your mind in a simple activity, thus switching off' your ability to concentrate on work or family stress.

Clay:

Whether you buy it or make it, playing with molding clay is another easy to participate game that can be very educational to your children as well as fun. Having a few tools to work with makes your skills at inventing less taxing.

You do not need store bought toys made especially for clay, in fact your children will likely find more enjoyment with cookie cutters and other kitchen tools or items from the house. Your children will learn colors, shapes, textures and even counting and sorting similar shapes.

Read them a Story!

Use creative voices to dramatize the action in the story, maybe even get them to put on a play to act out the activities in the story.

You can download some Toddlers readers right here on this Squidoo, and then play with the kids while you read them the story!

Toddlers Games How To Throw A Neighborhood Parade

type=textSince all kids love parades, why not create a neighborhood parade with kids as the main event?

In fact, a fun parade this summer can be the start of a new tradition of a parade every summer. Here are some ideas on how to get your first annual parade going and what the kids can do:

First off, decide when the parade is going to be. It might be best to hook it to a day that's already celebrated, like the 4th of July in the US. Of course there are fireworks at night, but what better thing to do in the morning than have a parade?

After you have the date and time decided, print up flyers that your kids can deliver to every house in your neighborhood. The flyers should mention all the specifics like where to meet, at what time, where the parade route will go, and ideas of what kids can do or be in the parade.

Here's a list of what kids can do:

Decorate their bikes and their bike helmets with crepe paper and ribbons.
Decorate their dogs in costumes and bring them on a leash.
Make and carry the banner at the front of the parade.
Throw small candy to the crowd.
Dress up in funny clothes and wear a clown wig. Ring cowbells or toot loud horns.
Baton twirling, cartwheeling, or hula-hooping.
Dress up in Halloween costumes.
Decorate wagons like floats.
Music! Have a boom box on a wagon that's blasting out marching songs.
Little ones might want to march or dance along to the music.

On the day of the parade, line everyone up in the order you want them to be in and have an adult at the front to make sure the parade goes in the direction it's supposed to go. Put the bikes in front since they will move the fastest. Remind them to stop every little bit to wait for the rest of the parade.

It may start off as total chaos, but it will be okay once they start going. Regardless, all the parents will love it and will take their positions as paparazzi on the parade route sidelines. There might even be a few choked up dads as they proudly watch their own child march by.

It's Snow Fun For Kids

Everyone knows that kids love to play in the snow.

They like to build snowmen and go sledding, and after a hard day's work in the snow they like to head inside for some well-deserved hot chocolate with mini-marshmallows.

Sometimes kids get bored with all that white stuff but still want to stay outside and that's when you can throw some of these ideas at them:

Mr. Potato Head meets Mr. Snowman - Make several snowman heads and line them up. On the snow heads the kids can place old wigs or yarn wigs. They can also poke some stick pretzels out the top for a crew cut or all over for the bed-head look. Peeled grapes, Oreos, an eye patch, or old glasses work for the eyes. The nose can be made of a pretzel rod or a piece of spiral pasta. For the mouth, they can use a comb or orange wedges. Cauliflower or broccoli flowerettes can help the snowmen to hear better. Let the kids go through your cupboards (before they get all their snow gear on) and they will find their own creative snow head decorating answers.

Snowy Car World - Take the kids' bigger cars and trucks outside so they can make a snowy world for their vehicles. The kids can stomp down snow for the roads, and make mountains and tunnels. They can even make a frozen pond by freezing some water in a plastic bowl or small bucket and planting it in the snow.

Stained Glass Ice - This one requires a little pre-planning. Pour about 1 to 2 inches of water in old plastic containers of different sizes and shapes. Add drops of food coloring in each to make different colors. Put the containers outside and let them freeze. Once frozen, pop the colored ice out and let the kids arrange them in pretty designs on the snow.

Snowball Target Practice - Kids enjoy throwing snowballs at other kids but don't like getting hit themselves. The best way around this is to have them throw the snowballs at a specific target. A hula hoop, bucket, tree trunk, garbage can lid, or Mr. Snowman all make good targets. Handicap the younger ones (or mom) and let them stand closer to throw.

These ideas will get your kids started and their imaginations will take off.

You may even have to remind them to come in for the hot chocolate.

Educational Games For Babies 6 To 12 Months

By six months of age your baby may be sitting unassisted, her coordination skills are growing in leaps and bounds, and she will soon be crawling, standing, and then walking.

Six to twelve months is a fun time for parents and babies.

Play a variety of games with your little one and watch her quickly master new skills, like language skills and fine and gross motor development.

Between 6 and 9 months your baby will love to experiment with simple cause and effect relationships like pressing a button to play a song.

Little ones also love to explore sounds by banging spoons and toys together or on the table at this age.

Give your baby an assortment of pots, coffee cans, and containers along with wooden spoons and metal spoons.

Encourage her to play the drums as you sing along. The Fisher Price Laugh & Learn Toy Bench is a great toy to satisfy those banging urges.

It also offers a number of educational benefits, like color and letter recognition, and provides opportunities for your baby to explore cause and effect.

Games with balls are a lot of fun at this age.

Use soft, squishy balls to roll back and forth across the floor with your baby. Try dropping beanbags into a wide, open container. Your little one will love taking them out just as much as watching you toss them in.

Once your baby starts to crawl, set up an obstacle course for her to crawl over.

Pillows, large stuffed animals, and piles of soft cloth scraps make perfect climbing obstacles to boost her crawling skills and strengthen the muscles she will soon use to walk.

Sometime between 9 months old and the first birthday, most babies will begin to walk, some earlier and some later.

During this age, your baby will be developing a number of new large muscles as well as her fine motor skills.

She will know how to hold her toys and can probably throw them. These soon-to-be toddlers also love to imitate and copy the things they see.

Play sound games with your baby. Make a sound or unusual noise and encourage your baby to copy it. Try this with funny faces and movements for even more fun.

Stacking and arranging blocks, cups, or other toys is also a fun game to enhance fine motor development. Give your baby an assortment of toys and a big box and watch her meticulously put them in and then dump them again all over the floor.

Sing lots of silly songs with your child and read everyday. Language skills are becoming quite strong during this stage and her vocabulary of understood words is growing rapidly.

Repetition of her favorite story books, nursery rhymes, and songs can give her an even better understanding of the common patterns of spoken language. Songs with movements, like the Itsy Bitsy Spider, are favorites at this age.

As your baby begins to cruise around the house, typically using furniture to aid her balance, play walking games. Hold her teddy bear or another cherished toy a few steps away and encourage your little one to walk to you to get it.

Remember to praise her efforts and not to make too big of a deal when she stumbles or falls. Once your baby becomes a confident toddler, there are tons of new games to enjoy together!

Mold Your Childs Future through Todays Toys and Games

type=textA child's exposure to the real world is through toys and games.

Manufacturers try to produce toys and games that are similar to real jobs since children are more likely to accept a toy or game that has close similarity to the real world.

Children see adults doing jobs in the real world and they want to imitate the adult. The newspapers report on war occurring in different parts of the world. Television news show footages of wars happening in the world.

Movies on crime and violence are prevalent on television, cds and dvds. These realities entice children to look for GI Joe dolls, guns and other related games to imitate what they see happening in real life.

Some movies and television programs show science fiction and fantasy features which likewise entice children to get space guns and super-hero dolls - who is to say today's fantasy might become tomorrow's reality.

When children play, it is possible that they have a hidden dream to eventually be that role in real life when they grow up and become adults. Children playing with doctor toys might secretly wish to be a doctor when they grow up.

Chemistry sets are indulged by inquisitive children who love mixing and experimenting with chemicals. As adults, they might become scientists or researchers.

There is no end to the child's imagination.

They are at that age that everything is a game but it is also possible that the game today could become the child's career in the future.

Try to expose the child to different toys and games and see where their interests lie.

There may be indirect indications on what their character and behavior will be in the future.

For instance, a child who enjoys outdoor games might not become a professional sports athlete or an experienced traveler, but that type of exposure and experience will indicate the child as having an extrovert and highly active personality.

That could be the start of a very successful marketing professional. Children who prefer to be alone exhibit an introvert personality and may indicate an engineering or writing profession.

There are various ways you can use toys and games to find out the child's interest into different professions. Math games and computers may mean a child's inclination to engineering and computers.

Lego and construction games may be the games for a potential architect. We should not push a toy or a game on a child if the child has no interests in them. Forcing a child to play a particular toy or game will not make the child want to undertake a similar career in the future.

Bring the child to the toy shop and browse around. See what toys interest the child. Ask the child why they like a particular toy or game. There may be a toy or game that is desired by the general public and your child might want it also not because of their personal interests but rather to be part of the crowd.

If you really want your child to follow a specific profession, try providing them with toys and games that support that profession. It is not a guaranteed method but it might help build the interest within the child.

Think out of the box and figure out what toys and games would put the child in the right track for your desired profession. Don't push and manipulate the child. Simply guide and observe their desires.

Let the child learn and see the different roles in real life.

This is not a direct science and we cannot say for certainty that the toys and games today are instrumental in establishing a child's future.

We can only hope that whatever profession the child eventually enters is a good and noble profession, and more importantly, the grown-up child enjoys the career.

Toddlers Games | Hot Potato Party Game

type=textHot potato is a party game that involves players gathering in a circle and tossing a small object such as a beanbag or tennis ball to each other while music plays.

The player who is holding the "hot potato" when the music stops is out.

Play continues until only one player is left. The game is designed to be fast-paced and high-pressure and is often played by children.

The game can also be played without music where there is a designated leader who shouts out "hot!" and the player holding the object is eliminated.

Hot potato remains a popular children's party game, as well as an activity for practicing motor skills such as eye-hand coordination and catching.

Toddlers Games - The Chocolate Game

The chocolate game is a game often played at children's parties.

Items needed

* A bar of chocolate
* A die
* A set of clothes - usually a hat, scarf, and pair of gloves
* A knife and fork
* Wrapping paper
* friends

Setting up the game

The bar of chocolate is wrapped with the wrapping paper several times over. The participants stand in a circle around the wrapped chocolate bar. Every participant rolls the dice and the person with the highest roll starts the game, putting on the items of clothing before beginning an attempt to eat the chocolate bar using the knife and fork.

Gameplay

The object of the game is to eat the whole chocolate bar. There is no real winner, however it can be played so that whoever takes the last bite of the chocolate bar wins.

As the die continues around the circle, if another player rolls a six they shout "SIX!" and the player in the centre has to stop immediately and take off the game clothing to transfer to his successor who then attempts to eat the chocolate piece by piece until the next player rolls a six.
