Should The Toilet Paper Roll Go on Over or Under?

Ranked #4,107 in Entertainment, #50,673 overall

An All Important Question That Has Troubled Some Since The Beginning Of Indoor Plumbing

This is it! The age old question of over or under.

How do you decide?

How do you do it?

Is there actually a right or wrong,

How did your mother do it?

How does your wife do it?

Do you even care?

There must be an answer...Please!!!

Toilet Paper "UNDER"

Toilet Paper "Over"

Let's See How You Really Feel About This Important Subject.

Don't deny it...you think about this all the time don't you? You're just glad it is finally out in the open.

Seriously!! does it even matter? How do you do it?

How do you fill the empty toilet roll?

If you have any class at all, it must go over.

Jamiee says:

over. for the <3 of god.

AnimalHouse says:

Over, it's easier to pull it.

lisadh says:

Over. It's harder for my cats to unravel that way. :-)

Frischy says:

It must be over. Under is just too much work!

Ashley says:

Over!

SquidooFlowers says:

When we had puppies, it had to be over. Under was too easy for them (or the cat) to get the toilet paper and go on a bathroom shred fest :)

GypsyPirate says:

Must be over.

samsons1 says:

It must be over- especially if you've ever been to boot camp. This was part of the inspection...

ashley says:

OVER!!!!!! I change it when I see it 'under'

mcochs says:

I always put mine over!

linhah says:

Over is better.

Retro_Loco says:

This is hilarious......and SO personal!!! Butt (I couldn't resist the spelling) if you insist on asking....OVER!!!!!!!!!! It feels awkward and unnatural to me to pull it off when it's under! I can't seem to find the end of it when it's loaded under. I guess it's all in what we are used to. I've always thought it was a northern versus southern thing! Every northern friend I've had was an under roller, and my southern friends (and family) are over rollers! ;-)

MeltedRachel says:

Definitely over!

nichevalue says:

I prefer over - but the real debate is whether the seat should be left up or down ;)

PizmoBeach says:

Over!

Annie says:

OVER! it is easier to spin toilet paper off that you need.

carlajo73 says:

It MUST go over...no questions asked!! My family all knows the rule!! In fact, I have even changed it at work and other public places when it's on wrong!

RickyRobi says:

OVER!

This was a huge debate, OK argument, with my husband at the beginning of our marriage. I had always filled it over and he insisted only people with a deficiency of some kind ( to put it politely) fill the toilet paper roll that way. I couldn't let that pass. That didn't go well, to say the least.

Let's just say I haven't filled the roll for 15 years.

TapIn2U says:

Wow - I haven't thought about it but now that I've read this lens, I am sitting here for a full five minutes trying to decide how I like to fill my toilet roll. And I must say I feel more convenient when it goes over. :)

Tipi says:

I'm just grateful to have toilet paper!

Under is the only way I can even tolerate

Zoombies says:

Under

Donita_Marie says:

Under, it annoys me to see toilet paper go over.

Spook says:

What a question? Under naturally.

Momsbusy247 says:

Under, under, under!!!

Juan Holmes says:

You're an idiot if you do it 'over', 'under' is the way it goes! As Iron Sheik would say 'You know, it's natural."
That's right, William! I said UNDER! U-N-D-E-R!

fanfreluche says:

Under!! I fight less to get my piece of toilet paper when it has been filled under!

Philippians468 says:

under please! it feels like it tears easily when it is over.

mb says:

under

Oosquid says:

Under - there is no other way :0)

Sadheeskumar says:

Under

the777group says:

Definitely under!

Cory says:

Under of course!!! Come on Robin?????

Tim says:

I grew up in a household that always had it under. My wife's household had it over. So, my household has it over, just to keep the peace. BUT, if I have to change the roll, I put it under just to get a reaction. Isn't life grand???

michela says:

under

Roo says:

In all my 40 years I have never once thought about this until tonight. It is quite perplexing that anyone should have an opinion as to which is right or wrong. All of the reasons I have seen for either way are stupid and can be argued in either favor forever with both sides sounding just as ridiculous. I only care that it is there when I need it regardless of over-under, single-double ply, lotion-quilted. When you have to use your socks or left hand that is what bothers me. My paradigm of this crazy existence does not think this is an important factor that I shall think about again however, if for some reason I am brought into a conversation about it I will sit back and wonder with amusement at the clods around me. Also, who really gives a crap about the toilet seat being up or down? Give me a break. If you sit down without looking you are stupid. It seems to me that if you are that stupid you would really complain about the lid being down. That would be much messier and would require the same amount of energy and brains to correct. Please respond, if I am the crazy one then I need know.

Jerry says:

Under, that is the proper and polite way. Besides cats can't unravel it from under and that means its the best way. Just ask anyone with a cat and who does it over!!!

jen says:

under cause if you have ever had a child or dog, you would find they have harder time unrolling if under!!

Kay says:

under

Ryan says:

I think its the roll to toilet ratio that effects this decision. In my bathroom the roll is very close to the toilet, so it feels more comfortable to reach farther underneath the roll, rather than scrunching up and reaching over 2 inches to it if its over.

partybuzz says:

I never paid any attention to how the toliet paper went on until I got married. My husband HAS to have it put on under...if not, he will take it off and redo it! :-)

Very fun lens. I can't believe that many people talk about toilet rolls on twitter! LOL
  • MaggiePowell Mar 5, 2012 @ 11:45 pm | delete
Truth is, I don't care if it's over or under...I just want there to be some TP on the roll. I swear, every time I walk in to a bathroom in this house it's empty, and there is not a single other person who lives here that seems to know how to replace the roll.
  • lisadh Mar 5, 2012 @ 10:16 pm | delete
Great fun! My dad came from a family of "under" and my mom came from a family of "over," and neither one ever changed the other. He's still "under" and she's still "over."
  • Frischy Mar 5, 2012 @ 10:13 pm | delete
I hope your lens convinces all the "under" people of the world to get with the program! lol

The age old argument. There have been divorces over this issue. Oprah claims 'It's never about the toilet paper'. I beg to differ. Fun lens:)
