Go Green with Efficiency!
If you are trying to go green, then conserving water should be on your agenda. An easy way to conserve water using a more efficient system is combining your sink with your toilet (and by that I do NOT mean peeing in the sink!). Using the same water wash your hands, and to flush the toilet can save water each time you flush, as well as several other added benefits. This improved system has been used in Japan for some time, and is now available for you.
The Sinkpositive Sink/Toilet Combo
Go Green with Efficiency
SinkPositive is a toilet accessory that retrofits nearly any existing toilet into a toilet-sink combo unit. Installed in just minutes, without special tools or a plumber, this combination unit can save the water you would otherwise use to wash your hands by using the same water to both wash with and flush with. The fact of the matter is that your toilet, as it now sits, uses perfectly clean water to flush with. This water is as sanitary as the water coming out of the sink. The benefits of this combination unit are plenty and prove, as units like these are being widely used in Japan.
Its system is simple, when the toilet is flushed the water pumps up through the pipe to the sink, automatically turning the sink on and drains down to the bowl. The sink will turn off automatically.

SinkPositive is the original patented retrofit application here in the US. HGTV featured it last year. Japan has used it for decades.

Do You Conserve?
The Benefits of the Toilet Sink
Why the toilet sink?
- The same water is used for flushing and washing allowing you to save water - helping the environment.
- In parts of the world where water is scarce, using the same water for flushing and washing encourages hand washing which is overlooked so the water can be used for something else.
- A tiny bathroom that only has a toilet can now have a toilet and a sink!
- You just might save a few pennies on your water bill.
- The sink turns itself reminding the user to wash their hands (especially good for children)
- Because it turns off when the toilet no longer needs it on, a water leak in the system is easily detected (when the sink runs and runs)
- Because the sink turns itself on and off, there is no need to touch the knobs which are often covered in germs, and also difficult for people with arthritis or other physical conditions.
- Homes with well water can save water as well as the electricity needed to pump it.

With each flush of your commode, clean water that would otherwise go straight down the toilet is first routed up through a chrome gooseneck spigot to dispense pure water for hand washing. The Toilet Lid Sink installs easily without tools, is attractive for any bathroom and is a great space saver. Shuts off automatically. Porcelain-like white plastic replaces your existing tank top and adjusts to fit standard toilets up to 8in wide and 18-22in long. Built-in soap dish. Overhang varies up to 1.5 in.

For $89 (TierraPath.com), why not buy one? It saves water & thus money, the water used to run the sink is totally clean (duh), and it encourages better hygiene through regular hand-washing.

I think it would be really nice to have the sink/toilet combo. I have an 8 year old that I am consitantly reminding to wash his hands. I think he would really enjoy using it, and he wouldn't have the excuse of forgetting.

- If you tell your kids, they have to poo or pee, to save water and wash their hands, they will be devouring more junk food to keep their hands and the earth cleaner!

- Great lens. I featured it on my new lensography on the environment. Go check it out and add your favorite environment links to the plexo: http://www.squidoo.com/environment-lensography
There's also a duel about the question: is the environment more important, or the economy?

- Tell your young kids (at least boys) that the water is being recycled form the toilet and you might even get them to wash their hands once in a while. :)
