Good Wii Games for Little Gamers

When we got the Wii, I started looking for good games for our kids to play. There were a few party games that looked great for families, but I also wanted games just for them, that they could play on their own. These weren't easy to find. So many of the supposed kids games are junk, as I'd noticed long before when shopping for computer games, and the Wii suffers from the same sloppy short-sightedness in many developers.

I spent a lot of time browsing reviews and reading suggestion forums to find even a handful that were decent quality and age appropriate for mine, who were seven and three. I'm hoping by creating this page, sharing my family's experiences and opening the floor for others to share their kids' favorites will assist other parents who are searching as I was. Maybe I'll even pick up a few ideas from all of you for Christmas and birthdays.

There is a High School Musical Wii game that my girls really enjoy. It comes with a microphone and you sing along with the characters.

Sojourn says:

I don't think they have a least favorite but they all love the Wii Sports game, mostly because of it's multi-player functionality and the assortment of sports you can play to keep it from getting stale.

wolftyrs says:

Mine are playing Avatar and Princesses the most. These seem to have the best mix of cooperative play and allowance for the differing skill levels.

One Parent's Wii Game Reviews

My pages for some of the wii games my children have been playing start here. You will find them listed by name, with excerpts of my reviews. Click through for an in-depth look at each game.

Littlest Pet Shop

This is one of the best games I've seen for the Wii for my seven-year-old. It's cute, the world includes several different environments, and there are a lot of mini games to play. It's given her hours of happy entertainment, so I consider our money well spent on this game.

Disney Princess: Enchanted Journey

My seven-year-old loved Enchanted Journey, and was able to complete the game on her own. It's one of my three-year-old's favorites because it closely fits his skill level; it doesn't frustrate him the way other games can. All in all, I found it an excellent value for my family at just under $20.

SimAnimals

SimAnimals teaches kids a basic understanding of ecosystems and food chains while letting them pet and interact with wildlife. Up to four players can play at once.

SimAnimals Africa lets kids interact with African wildlife, even playing as the animals as part of the gameplay. This one's a one player game.

My four-year-old enjoys playing both but needs a little help with reading and isn't able to follow the challenges on his own. My eight-year-old can.
