My 10 Best Guitars For Metal Under $1000
What makes an electric guitar good for heavy metal? is it hot pickups, thin necks, a Floyd Rose bridge, weird body shapes...?
Stereotypes aside, there is no doubt that many things add up to the overall quality of an electric guitar. But the one that is often overlooked is 'Vibe', how the instrument feels when you play it.
I've been very lucky to work and play with many electric guitars in the last decade, and here are my top 10 for heavy metal under $1000.

I've been very lucky to work and play with many electric guitars in the last decade, and here are my top 10 for heavy metal under $1000.
#1 - Schecter C1 Hellraiser
Despite having the 'Les Paul' ingredients the shape of this guitar is in the Stratocaster camp, which makes it more comfortable and easier to play. The neck is very speed friendly and the jumbo frets make bending and legato playing very easy as well.
The design and sound of the Schecter C1 Hellraiser it's 100% metal, and Schecter covered all the bases by offering fixed bridge, Floyd Rose and 7 string versions. They all come with the genre's favorite EMG active humbuckers.

#2 - LTD EC-1000
But most that have played one would agree that for heavy metal is not the most comfortable guitar available, mainly because of its weight and price.
The LTD EC-1000 offers most of what the Les Paul is all about, but in a more adequate design for this style of music. The body and neck are thinner, the fretboard comes with jumbo frets and the pickups are active EMG humbuckers.

#3 - Ibanez RG-7321
During the 'nu metal' era, which as predicted ended soon! I flirted with a 7 strings guitar for a while. Unfortunately, I couldn't afford an Ibanez guitar and got a Dean instead, Huge Mistake! The neck of that guitar turned me off to the idea of playing 7 strings guitar. It wasn't until years later when I played an RG-7321 that I understood how different it can be.
This guitar is very good straight out of the box, the design of the neck makes the transition from 6 to 7 strings feel painless. And with a set of Dimarzio pickups it becomes a sonic monster.

#4 - LTD KH-602
Appearance wise it's just another Stratocaster look alike. But what sets this guitar apart is its neck-thru design, giving it a lot more sustain an easier playability.
The neck is thin but not super thin, making it also suitable for a more 'feel' kind of playing. The reverse headstock, skull inlays and Floyd Rose bridge add up to a menacing look. And it comes with active EMG pickups, for an equally menacing sound.

#5 - Jackson SLSMG
This guitar is super comfortable for playing heavy metal. In part due to its thru body neck, which gives it a lot of sustain despite its thin body.
The whole guitar is satin finished, its mahogany body is thin and light, the fretboard radius is very flat and the pickups are active EMG humbuckers. An equation in which the only possible outcome is metal.
