How Should I Best Proceed with this Guide?
What about through the eyes of a young explorer...?
Allow me to introduce you to Dougal. Raised in a remote Highland village, Dougal knew hardship, certainly - but also the love and support of family and those around him in what was a very tight knit community. From an early age, however, Dougal was curious about what lay further afield. He was well read, well educated, and wanted very much to see more of what his homeland had to offer. It was therefore that, at the earliest opportunity, he decided to explore further the land he called home and see for himself the sights of which he had previously only heard tale.Without further ado, let us therefore join Dougal as he sets off on his quest...
Inverness
The Capital of Scotland's Highlands
There were two very good reasons as to why Dougal chose to begin his tour in the city of Inverness. Firstly, it was the closest city to his home and therefore appeared to be a logical choice; secondly, its transport network afforded him far greater options for travelling further afield. A small, sixteen-seater bus it was then that took him off on his adventures one sunny, Monday afternoon, spiriting him initially along narrow, single-track roads before hitting the trunk roads and eventually reaching his first chosen destination. -

The City of Edinburgh
The Capital of Scotland
Dougal was astounded by what Inverness had to offer him but he knew that there was far more to see further afield. Trains ran regularly from Inverness to Edinburgh and it was with a great sense of anticipation that he purchased his ticket for the journey. The scenery he passed through was breathtaking, from Aviemore, to Perthshire, to Stirlingshire, travelling ever closer to Edinburgh all the time.Three and a half hours almost to the minute after setting off, Dougal's train pulled in to Waverley Station. He was astounded by the size of it - he had never before seen a railway station with so many platforms! What could he expect from the rest of Edinburgh?

The Peninsula and Islands of Argyll
Probably the most beautiful part of Scotland
Edinburgh was unlike anything Dougal had even imagined. He could not believe how much there was to see and do, all in the one place! He thought that if he stayed there for a month, he would but scratch the surface of what this beautiful city had to offer.Alas, he did not have a month to spend in Edinburgh. He had to be on his way much sooner than that, so it was with something of a heavy heart that he set out on what was to be the next leg of his journey.
Although he knew the Scottish Highlands fairly well, he had never experienced the beauties which he heard Argyll had to offer. He knew that it was a part of Scotland he absolutely had to see. A little research, therefore - at an Edinburgh Tourist Information office - saw him boarding a train for Glasgow Queen Street Station, subsequently making the short walk to Glasgow Buchanan Street Bus Station and jumping on the Citylink bus, bound ultimately for Campbeltown, but first stop, Inveraray...

A Sensible Precaution
It is always better to be safe than sorry
Naturally, in consideration of the long, hot, sweltering summers that Scotland is famed for (!!!), Dougal decided to ensure he had suitable headgear with him to protect him against the ravages of the midday sun and prevent any unfortunate brush with sunstroke. He was careful therefore to wear this fashionable cap whenever he felt at risk and make sure he stayed safe to maximise the enjoyment of his adventure. Can you relate to Dougal's curiosity?

That is a great hat! It is interesting to read the experiences of a native Scot traveling and discovering his own country. It makes it easier to understand how those born and raised in Scotland are so fierce loyal to there land. If a local can enjoy a Scotland vacations so much is stands to reason a foreigner would love it to.
