Traveling to Ibiza and Formentera
Ranked #42,707 in Travel & Places, #1,067,848 overall
Clearly you are considering travelling to one of the most beautiful places in the Mediterranean!
It's just like Estrella Damm says it is...
If you are traveling to Ibiza or Formentera then you will find that it is much easier in the summer season than from September to April. The Pine Islands, as Ibiza and Formentera are known, do not really have an established winter season. But if you do make the effort to go during this period then you will find it is still fantastic weather, and that the beaches are empty.
Formentera does not have an airport so if you do go there the chances are that you will take a ferry from Ibiza, although during the summer you can also catch a ride from Palma de Mallorca, Valencia, Denia and Barcelona. When you arrive it will be at the port of La Savina, and what you will face will be exactly like the video below :-) The ferries are runby four main companies: Balearia, Mediterranea Pitiusa, Acciona-Trasmediterranea, and Iscomar.

Once you have arrived in Ibiza you'll find that it's pretty easy to get around using the local buses. They are punctual, and run between all the major towns. You can get buses from Ibiza Town to Salines Beach, and all the major resorts. There is also the so-called discobus running the Ibiza Town-Amnesia-Privilege-Sant Antoni route during the summer months. For the youngsters there is a tourist train which starts from Es Canar beach, and has three different routes.
If you are traveling to Ibiza as an EU citizen then you should have no trouble passing through immigration. If you are from outside the EU you should check whether there is a visa requirement. Spain thrives on tourism so the immigration staff are far more friendly that in the UK or US, but you still need to ensure that all your papers are in order. Once you are through the barriers, remember that this is Spain and you should try to speak as much Spanish or Catalan as possible - you'll enjoy your stay all the more for it, and the locals will appreciate your efforts.
