- Raleigh Trolley
- The narrative Historic Raleigh Trolley Tour operates every Saturday March - December from 11a.m. - 3 p.m. The narrated tours lasts one hour with stops throughout down town. The Trolley departs from Mordecai Historic Park on the hour, but can be boarded at any stop.

- Ackland Art Museum
- Located on the campus of the University of North Carolina, the Ackland Art Museum showcases a permanent collection of 15,000 objects from across the world.
- Chapel Hill Museum
- Chapel Hill Museum exhibits the "character and characters of Chapel Hill, NC."
- Kidzu Children's Museum
- A hands-on, interactive museum for kids ages 0-8 years old.
- Marbles Kids Museum
- A hands-on, interactive museum located in downtown Raleigh and home to the IMAX theater.
- Morehead Planetarium & Science Center
- Located on the campus of the University of North Carolina, Morehead Planetarium is one of the largest planetariums in the U.S.
- NC Museum of Art
- The NC Museum of Art presents a vast array of permanent pieces, student artwork, and traveling exhibits. It also features a 164 acre park.
- NC Museum of History
- Learn about the history of the state of North Carolina through permanent and changing exhibits.
- NC Museum of Life & Science
- A wonderful museum for both children and adults featuring hands-on exhibits and a six-acre woodland with black bears, red wolves & lemurs.
- NC Museum of Natural Sciences

- Raleigh City Museum
- The Raleigh City Museum is located in downtown Raleigh and specializes in the history of the city.
Historic Sites
North Carolina Historic Sites in the Triangle
- Bennett Place
- This simple farmhouse was located between Confederate General Johnston's headquarters in Greensboro and Union General Sherman's headquarters in Raleigh, North Carolina. In 1865 the two officers met at the Bennett Place, where they signed surrender papers for southern armies in the Carolinas, Georgia, and Florida. Today James Bennett's reconstructed farmhouse, kitchen, and smokehouse recall the lifestyle of an ordinary Southern farmer during the Civil War.
- Duke Homestead
- See the early home, factories, and farm where Washington Duke first grew and processed tobacco. Duke's sons later founded The American Tobacco Company, the largest tobacco company in the world. The tour includes the Duke family's restored home, an early factory, a curing barn, and a packhouse. The Tobacco Museum exhibits traces tobacco history from Native American times to the present.
- Historic Stagville
- Historic Stagville now serves as an instructional tool for the visiting public and teaches them about Southern plantation life and North Carolina material culture.
- NC State Capitol
- The North Carolina State Capitol, completed in 1840, is one of the finest and best-preserved examples of a major civic building in the Greek Revival style of architecture. It is a National Historic Landmark.

- Meredith College

- North Carolina Central University
- Located in Durham, NC Central University is a historically black university. Today it offers a diverse student population with undergraduate & graduate degrees.
- North Carolina State University

Business costs are 14% below the national average, and the area boasts one of the most educated labor supplies in the country, with 38% of the adult population possessing a college degree and 12% holding a graduate degree. Raleigh's secret is out, though, as people have been flocking to the area.
Net migration has averaged 25,000 annually in recent years, or 2.4% of the population, seventh highest in the country. The influx of talented young people is good news for big employers in the area like Cisco Systems (nasdaq: CSCO - news - people ), GlaxoSmithKline (nyse: GSK - news - people ) and SAS Institute.
