"Think and Grow Rich" - The Genuine Source of True Inspiration
When I first read Napoleon Hill's book "Think and Grow Rich" this last summer (2009) I was out of work looking for a job. My wife was working but pining to be at home more with the children and I really wanted to be earning again. However, the job market had tanked, particularly here in California, and I was finding no openings. I was dipping into the self-employed/work-at-home market when I came across "Think and Grow Rich". Napoleon is a great favorite of the GRQ (Get Rich Quick) and IM (Internet Marketing) crowd.
At that point my self-esteem was beginning to wobble and I could smell the approach of the Slough of Despond. I was beginning to question myself - my skills, my relevance, my age, and so on. I found a free, downloadable version of "Think and Grow Rich" or else I probably would never have gone near something with such an implausible title.
I was amazed. It was as if he had written the book that was forming in my head (if the saying is true that everyone has a book inside them). Moreover, the writing felt genuine, free of the blurb and cant that so many self-help books are so full of that you feel like washing yourself after reading them. The emotion in Napoleon's writing rings true and the inspiration it engenders feels authentic not hollow.
How I Fell in Love with Napoleon Hill!!!
Or at least Came To Admire Him Greatly
Merely reading the "Think and Grow Rich" cheers me up. Napoleon is such an optimist and affirmer. He is mature when talking about subjects like desire, sex, fear, the sub-conscious, sixth senses. There is no minimizing or hyperbole, unlike his many, many, many disciples, just a regular adult conversation. I find this refreshing in a time where there is so much posing in popular media. He is also eccentric and bizarre enough, (both of which I mean as compliments), to make you feel that you are reading a real, unique person and not just a report or a how-to book. The story about his son was heart-piercing to me as I have sons of my own and can imagine what he must have felt like. In fact it may have been that story that sowed the seed of this article and my blog about Napoleon. I wanted to rescue him from being shopped around like another how-to program or get-rich-quick scheme. This story also got me over the doubts raised by his revelation of his nocturnal roundtable with the dead.
Get Your Copy of "Think and Grow Rich"

I am still without a job but have given up looking for one. Instead I am committed to making my real money in the virtual world. I have been using Napoleon's approach to devise my own plan which requires me to make $1 million just to cover college fees for all my children. This squid is part of that plan.
I am currently engaged in an exercise of gratitude to Napoleon Hill. His fundamental decency and straightforwardness in addressing many of the dilemmas that were torturing me with their horns helped me to regain my balance and optimism. Although I have not made a cent yet in my own Grow Rich endeavors I have made my plan using his recommendations. I wanted to promulgate all the good thoughts and insights Napoleon has inspired in me before I get too busy making the riches. I am hoping to inspire someone to take a look at the book "Think and Grow Rich. You can get your own hard copy of "Think and Grow Rich" here for the cost of shipping and handling ($4.59). It is a nice copy and a good deal. I will get a commission if you get it through this link. You will also get on to the mailing list for Vic Johnson's As A Man Thinketh weekly meditations from which you can unsubscribe any time you wish.
I have also included a link to Amazon if you want to go that route (same deal applies for me).
Go and Read "Think and Grow Rich"
If you want to read it first to decide if you want a hard copy in your collection, as I did, here is a link to download a soft copy with no strings attached.

My Other Lenses on Napoleon
Stoicism, Fear, and Over 40
I had no idea doing this would be such an ordeal. I have had to learn how to squidoo, how to submit to Ezine, and how to set up a blog...all to say thanks to Napoleon.Of course it is all good practice and a safe way to try out the water as well. This is a combination that would appeal to Napoleon.
By the way my Ezine article - the first - is "Think and Grow Rich" - Enlightened Management Before Its Time. Go have a look and see what you think

In this squid I talk about how similar Napoleon is in his thinking to the ancient Roman Stoic philosophers and in particular to Marcus Aurelius. For instance, the Great Mind is the governing principle for Marcus Aurelius. Trying to accord one’s...
