Troika Studio Pottery St. Ives Cornwall England

Troika was an art pottery operating in Cornwall from 1963 to 1983.

Troika was set up in February 1963 by an equal partnership of three people consisting of Leslie Illsley, Benny Sirota, and Jan Thomspon in a three thousand pound take over of the Wells Pottery at Wheal Dream, St. Ives Cornwall, England.

The three equal partners chose the name Troika, a word of Russian origin referring to a vehicle drawn by a team of three horses, to reflect themselves as a team and also for the sharp angular sound of the word which is reflected in the sharp angular ceramics they consequently produced.

Today Troika Pottery is a much sought after and highly prized collectable.

The Troika Collection

The Troika Collection has been created as a tribute to the Cornish 'Troika Pottery Company' that pioneered an inspirational new design concept in the 1960s and 70s.
