My Truth-Heroes!

Everybody had their heroes as a child. I had a very specific reason why those were my heroes. The reason actually hasn't changed, now some thirty years later. Let me introduce my heroes of Truth to you!

So why call anyone a hero?

Defining this fascination has been a work-in-progress over the past 30 years.

I remember being read eastern fairytales with a wisdom-question when I was a child. It seemed like the plot was always similar and so was the challenge contained in the story: the main character would meet an old and wise person and he would then be offered the choice between either:
knowing everything needed to be successful, wealthy and happy,
or: being a poor wanderer who knew true wisdom.
If memory serves, many of the characters would choose success and wealth. They ended up being unfulfilled, and then finally would return to the old man to ask for wisdom.
I, self-righteous child, of course knew what should be sought to be truly happy: true wisdom.
Now, as an adult, I would call it Truth.

I like something Mahatma Gandhi (supposedly) said:
"God is not the truth, but the truth is God."

Over the years, my comprehension of what wisdom or truth is, and who is actually living the real deal without hypocrisy or lies, has changed. I realize my inner standard has gone up continuously, and there have been many who have fallen from the pedestal I had put them on. It was my mistake, in most cases, to expect so much. I expect too much for 99% of humanity, and I have stopped condemning us 99% for being who we are at this moment in time.
But the inner fascination remains!

My heroes are those who are my lighting examples; they show the life I felt was meant in those ancient fairytales is a reality for some indeed. Which means it is a possible reality for all! Can you imagine that? To be completely, unconditionally devoted to Truth!
It seems light years away from day-to-day-life as I know it, but my devotion to following in the footsteps of these heroic human beings, is growing continually.
And I expect yours to be too :) !

Perfection

"There is a final realization that all is perfection as a consequence of the unfoldment of potentiality actualizing outside of time as an expression of Creation. The ultimate source and potential are referred to as the 'Godhead', the Divinity of which is expressed as the emergence of the totality of timeless Creation and its evolutionary unfoldment."

~ Dr. Hawkins; p. 295 of "Reality, Spirituality and Modern Man".

The hero that challenges me constantly:

Sri Ramana Maharshi

Ramana Maharshi is undeniably a true sage.
He confused me for many years, with his silence and seemingly absent drive to 'do' and 'make happen'. To take that hurdle I needed Dr Hawkins' directions.
But the radicalness of Ramana's life is what my heart needs most.
I advise spending some time at his Asram. It was a raw and confronting, but invaluable, experience for me.
